He left his position as sports director at WVUE TV to become the Zephyrs (AAA professional baseball team) radio color analyst in the mid 1990s and he still is on their broadcast, but only for home games. Besides his radio duties, he has an official position with the organization, either media relations or the main contact person for getting Zephyrs personnel to be guest speakers at events.

Ron Swobota had to be boiling mad inside. Swobota was real surly when he a player. He yelled at me and gave me a real hard time when he was with the Expos and I was a kid, just asking for an autograph.He made me feel about an inch tall and I felt ashamed and humiliated. Man, I miss Jimmy on the sidelines and on the mic, he was always entertaining and he was a pretty good coach too, forget about his playoff record, he did what no other coach in New Orleans could do before him, and that was making the Saints a playoff team! He left in the mid 90s ( just a little bit before Mora resigned from Saints) to go work for the Zephyrs, the AAA baseball team that moved from Denver because of MLB expansion with the Rockies. Swoboda can be heard doing color commentary for the Zephyrs radio broadcasts in New Orleans
