I'm at a loss here. I've seen clips of Mays and Berry, and I don't see where people are saying Berry is better and more of an all-around safety. Mays may not have the interceptions that Berry has, but with the natural skills he possesses, his size and strength to go with that speed, and his instincts at taking the proper angles to light a running back or receiver up, to me it's no contest. I'm watching Berry try to get a guy down by riding his back, Mays simply lays the runner out cold.........
Eric Berry is so much better than Taylor Mays. I'm not a Vols fan but it's obvious Berry is better. You are so dumb, yes mays is good but Berry is so much better, all mays does it hit, Berry hits just as hard and is much faster and athletic, Mays is so big he can barely cover anybody, Berry started out at Corner and can shut anybody down as well as bring the big hit at safety.
Plus Eric Berry does special things with the ball once he has it in his hands. In only 2 seasons he was only 7 yards from breaking the ALL TIME NCAA record for INT return yards. Mays is only a safety Berry can play nearly any position on defense and can be a threat on offense as well.
I agree that Berry is slightly better. But Its not that Mays is "so big he can barely cover anybody" or that Berry is faster and more athletic. Mays runs about a 4.38-.40 and for a guy thats 6'3'' 230, thats freakishly athletic. The diff between the 2 is that Mays always goes for that KO hit which doesnt always work out well, while Berry turns into a reciever when the ball is in the air and gets the offense back on the field.

I'm at a loss here. I've seen clips of Mays and Berry, and I don't see where people are saying Berry is better and more of an all-around safety. Mays may not have the interceptions that Berry has, but with the natural skills he possesses, his size and strength to go with that speed, and his instincts at taking the proper angles to light a running back or receiver up, to me it's no contest. I'm watching Berry try to get a guy down by riding his back, Mays simply lays the runner out cold.........

Eric Berry is so much better than Taylor Mays. I'm not a Vols fan but it's obvious Berry is better. I'm not saying he's the next Ed Reed, but like Reed, Berry is a do-it-all safety who excels in defending the pass, defending the run, and he's a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Can't say the same for Mays. Mays is the better tackler but thats it. Mays is Roy Williams like, they're both great tacklers, but not great coverage men.

Eric Berry reminds me of Ed Reed. Is a great athlete with phenomenal instincts.
Taylor Mays is in the mold of Sean Taylor. Difference is Sean Taylor in college was far more productive. Taylor also actually had INTS. Keep in mind Taylor played on a National Championship team which was loaded with talent just like SC.

Seriously Eric Berry is mad overrated, he picks off balls that are super overthrown and recovers the fumbles caused by his backer corps, taylor mays is and will continue to be the elite safety in the country. He's the next USC Safety to make the pro-ranks and dominate; look at Polamalu's transition to the NFL, expect that or better from MAYS

You are so dumb, yes mays is good but Berry is so much better, all mays does it hit, Berry hits just as hard and is much faster and athletic, Mays is so big he can barely cover anybody, Berry started out at Corner and can shut anybody down as well as bring the big hit at safety.

Plus Eric Berry does special things with the ball once he has it in his hands. In only 2 seasons he was only 7 yards from breaking the ALL TIME NCAA record for INT return yards. Mays is only a safety Berry can play nearly any position on defense and can be a threat on offense as well.

I agree that Berry is slightly better. But Its not that Mays is "so big he can barely cover anybody" or that Berry is faster and more athletic. Mays runs about a 4.38-.40 and for a guy thats 6'3'' 230, thats freakishly athletic. The diff between the 2 is that Mays always goes for that KO hit which doesnt always work out well, while Berry turns into a reciever when the ball is in the air and gets the offense back on the field.

Eric Berry is a fantastic player. He is productive on the field.
Unlike Mays who is just pure potential. Oh and Troy was productive in his college years just like Berry is now. I have lived in California all my life so I have seen all the SC players.

The two safety positions and the middle LB position are almost always in the right place at the right time cuz the are in the middle of the field and spend most of there time looking at the qb's eyes. Eric Berry is a smart football player! top 15 in the draft
