Lol. They are cheaper because they are normally older, more basic and don't have all the high end technology that the western jets do. Well, that used to be true, anyway. The new planes like the TU-204, IL-96, etc, are all fully modern and priced accordingly. The TU-154 is a 30 year-old plane!

Aeroflot flies a mix of planes, because they never claimed to be the best. Sometimes the western jets are better for a task, sometimes they aren't.

And yes, I speak russian.

I am very close with the U.S. airline industry. I just don't understand why they won't get some, at least ONE Tupolev or Ilyushin. They have outstanding records. But for me, the best is the Il-62. Love the design. Super-durable.

Only problem with the TU-154, they are pushing way beyond their operational limits. Many western aircraft are sold to third world countries, yet one crashes it is reported as a air disaster with mentioning the country of manufacturer, unless its an international route.

I live in Fort lauderdale and they sell s-31 acrobatic aircraft out of Pompano. Very impressive machines - just the Russians still lack the market savy of western co.

There's the odd boeing or airbus here or there...but 90% of the planes are russian made...more flight time = more accidents. Duh.

Why would the western airliners order this plane from a country that's 10,000 miles away, when they can easily get a boeing or an airbus from the US and support their own economy?

Besides, the fuel economy on these planes isn't great, and they are loud. But they are safe, reliable, and very tough.

And this is based on safety statistics. Look it up and stfu. Kinda hard to not report a plane crash when people die and there are tons of witnesses...
