I would love to see them play this song in it's entirety, what an amazing epic. Unfold the Future is my favorite album by them. Also, what a nightmare this must have been to rehearse for playing live.
Very Yes, But got to say they hold the same deep thought as they do.
Following Yes from the begining & bringing Trever on board I didnt think he could cut it cause he struck me as flashy. But once see him do a solo tune I found right away he was very DEEP in thought in his musical love and these guys hit me very much so as well. Break a Leg guys! :)

@flowerlower005. Absolut är det, det. Fröbergs nya platta är ju inte en besvikelse heller. Hoppas bara flowerkings kommer med en ny pl,atta snart också :)
Sweet!!! I totally forgot about these guys! I remember thinking "what Yes song is this" when I first heard them years ago. GREAT band!! Shame on me for forgetting them.
Is it me or is this singer a lot better than Roine Stolt? Don't get me wrong, Roine can write and play guitar like a genius but he's not that great of a singer.
I own the CD for this concert and I could hardly believe it was live! FK can really replicate their songs - epic or otherwise - as so close to the original recording. This is a great epic by FK!
This is a lot like what Yes did. They played in the studio at the same time and recorded it then just did a few overdubs here and there and of course the singer has to do it again but that's about it.
These days most bands record everything seperately but I like the idea of the band just walking in the studio and recording and having it not take that much time.
@OdysseyIntoOblivion wrong. Close to the edge was made piece by piece over weeks and months in the studio with a lot of interband struggle. Bruford left due to it.
@vampiroangelico He left and joined King Crimson in '72 before the release of Edge. The Genesis gigs (which were even better due to him) came in '77. I loved his playing on Cinema Show.
@randomscience1 I loved his playing in the whole Seconds Out album! He did not sound like Phil Collins (which is an awesome drummer) but yet gave that live album his own touch, adding a little different flavor to the songs that was very enjoyable.
@vampiroangelico I totally agree! I saw them at Vanderbilt University - fantastic experience. Also had the pleasure of seeing him live with his short lived UK band. He is my favorite drummer ever. I hear he's retired now.
Check out Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree if you haven't already. Have a great (fill in appropriate holiday)!
@randomscience1 LOL I'm white so I guess you "could" have said "Christmas", although I am somewhere in between Roman Catholic and agnostic....Regarding Porcupine Tree, I already have a few of their albums and I love them. Some of my very favorite drummers (and I'm a guitarist) are Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, Kim Plainfield, Simon Phillips, Jeff Porcaro, Phil Collins, Chester Thompson, Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Colaiuta, Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy when he doesn't shove that double-bass everywhere!
@randomscience1 I believe you'll end up liking all of them, but for different reasons.
I never listened to (or played) just one style of music.
Ever since I started playing music, I've always been into different styles of music, like progressive rock, jazz-fusion, some metal, AOR, classic rock, country, blues, 1940s swing, classical, chamber music, new age, goth rock, alternative....I just believe there's good and bad in every music genre.
I think proggers are comers in the music world. Prog isn't all that obscure, not as it was in say 1993 or whatever.
I have almost every FK albums... figured I could do without their live DVDs... but hearing this I think I've got to get this too. ...Definitely a different take on the music. Good stuff.
that is daniel gildenlow singing, right? It doesn't look like him - but it sort of sounds like him and I heard he was the singer for Flower Kings, so...
I believe the whole band sings. If I understand correctly, Daniel is sometimes a part of the live setup. Daniel is here 3:12. The one singing (the one with the black accoustic guitar) is Hasse Froberg. Daniel is more often the background singer (which he, obviously, does perfectly )
these guys are the best of the Neo-prog bands, hands down...spock's beard has drifted off as well as many others but these guys, stay true and continue to make music that reminds you of classic prog but is still fresh.
and this song...imo their best work...makes any album it's on, be it meet the flower kings or unfold the future, worth the cost of admission alone!
These guys can uncannily pull of the vocal harmonics of Yes.... And Jonas might as well be Chris Squier with that bass tone/skill. Would love to see them cover Close to the Edge!
If you like TFK's vocal harmonies, you absolutely MUST listen to Moon Safari. The have got the best vocals and vocal harmonies in the history of prog!
I kinda know what you mean... the first time I heard those first keyboard notes (apart from being totally overwhelmed by the awesomeness of them), I felt like I had heard them before...
I have this DVD. I bought it! It's really good to have, and I have the special edition with the audio CD's. I don't have most of their albums, though - most of their albums are on Napster, I just listen from there.
thanks pain of salvation, thank daniel gildenlow, thanks wikipedia! i would have never heard such an amazing band if it wasn't for a simple coincidence and the last mentioned factors. :) BRILLIANT.
When that dude and chick came out in white leotards the first thing that popped into my mouth was happy and frothy vomit-my friend just laughed, but it made me angry due to the fact that i almost vomited and i felt compelled to kick my pet penguin in the beak, unfortunately now he's dead all because of those retards in the leotards.
what am I talking about?...clearly you can tell that the way the Christmas bags of peanut M&M's are different then the normal ones is much the same way that situations in which documents that appear in various publications regarding farm equipment and other vast human (and other) resources are most likely brought up on charges by an old lady screaming "Litigation will be pending!"
Now as recently as yesterday I noticed I have an extremely powerful bass rig (bi-amped at 2250 watts rms)
yeah, it's called iTunes, or BUY the CDs. They deserve your purchase! Besides, you can't download any of their CDs for free, they're just not popular enough for people to make them available like that. I actually downloaded nearly all my Flower Kings albums on iTunes, really good way to buy music. it's really cheap compared to buying CDs, and it's easy enough to just burn them to CD once you download them.
thnx for the tip smarty boy... but for your information, not all of us are allowed to spent 1 buck per song to download a full discography of them... and i'll let you do the maths, 1$ per song and 10 songs per CD. how many $ are in total?... be my guess
so... if you really like this guys, why don't you upload some of their CD's to a torrent so ppl who can't afford to pay for all of the songs can download it? don't be so selfish ¬¬
Don't buy by song man! Buy by album, you save a lot (so click "buy album," not "buy song", they're avg about $11 each on iTunes. go out and buy a $20 iTunes gift card for yourself, make an iTunes account, redeem the iTunes card following the instructions on the back of the card, and have fun shopping for music! You don't even have to buy their whole discography at once, buy it slowly and save money to do so.
And another thing, not giving everyone the stuff I bought for free isn't selfish... and isn't saying something like "why don't you upload some of their CD's to a torrent so ppl who can't afford to pay for all of the songs can download it?" kind of like saying "I can't afford to by something, so I'm going to steal it until I can?" Get a job or something, earn money and buy the things you want honestly, not using the old, bad excuse " I deserve this for free, because I can't pay for it."
That's why I bought at least 5 of their disks as well as payed $110 to see them with a friend and $20 for a shirt. They are very nice people, I got to chat with Roine, Hasse, and Jonas. Let me tell you, it was worth every penny or more to see them live. Unbelievable.
all of you guys are dicks. how do you know that they actually give a shit about who downloads their music and who doesn't? i bought the cds because i didn't feel like finding a torrent. srsly, no need to act like 12 year olds. just enjoy the music. be glad that there's even a band this amazing around. haha.
I heard the live version of this song well before the original and I must agree that this is the most incredible live vocal performance I've heard ever.
I love how Jonas switches between fretless and fretted basses. It's amazing how dead on the vocals are. Never seen a band who's vocalist can sound exactly the same in the studio and live. Not even Dream Theater, I hate admitting it since DT is my favorite.
Hasse's interpretation for this song always scare me (or something like that). It's so absolutely flawless and perfect and moving and epic and all... both the studio & live versions.
I have no words to say just how much I enjoy his vocals on this tune.
He sounds exactly the same. That is a talent in itself. Perfection is almost never accomplished. Such beauty in this song. It's unbelievable. This is one of the only bands I get "the feeling" listening to them.
neat, I have transcribed the first part "Lonely Road" for the keybaord. check it out on youtube, it's under "Jamie Bertram plays "The Truth Will Set You Free" on his M3
