Great pots! I know they're not food safe but with enough wax or something could they functionally hold water say, for flowers?

A bomb-fire is a fire which is caused by an exploding bomb. A bonfire is a controlled outdoor fire. Not important but I thought it might save you some embarrassment. I do want to try this. Do you know if these pots can be heated to boil water or cook in after this or are they too fragile?

@jacksawild The term "bomb fire" was used intentionally, as it was at times huge and we had some pots explode. Also, "bomb fire" is way more fun than bonfire. Next time I'll make a note that the term was used in fun and shouldn't be taken literally.

To your question... The pots that come out of the fire are not considered food safe as the temperature does not allow for them to reach vitrification. So they are fragile and porous. They will "sweat" if used to hold water.

@Sylvia9000 Wont the sweating cool the pottery holding the water? I hear Latin Americans had Terracotta that cooled threw sweating. Would it poison you to drink the water from one of these?

@astrialkil I would think that the sweating would cool the water to some degree, but as the pot is porous and permeable, it wouldn't hold water for too long and eventually you'd have an empty pot anyway. More importantly, I would definitely NOT recommend using this pottery to drink from. The surface decoration comes from smoke, ash & chemical reactions which artists should assume produce toxins and carcinogens. Therefore, these pots are considered ornamental only.

Glad you liked this! It was really fun to do.  It was my first time, but I had a lot of help from Jenny and Gale and we were really happy with the results.
