  • Thank you ;)

  • ThanQ Bro

  • can you please tell me why I my path selection tool isnt working? I try to click on the rectangle with it but it doesnt select it. Also on my layers pallette when I click on 'paths' there are no paths shown. help?

  • @ShrinkingUniverse00 sounds like the rectangle shape might be set to "Fill Pixels" instead of "Shape Layers" or "Paths" (check in the top, left corner of the options panel). That's the only thing I can think of, without seeing for myself.

  • very good and comprehensive thanks a lot

  • The best tutorial I've seen on that subject. thank you so much

  • THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!! :)))))

  • eheehe , thanks a bunch dude!!

  • Thanks! Very useful! :)

  • This is a great tutorial, thank you.

I might add that one thing I like to do is select the rounded rectangle path and then go to Select > Refine Edge and use the tools/preview there (mostly feather) to create a softer edge. Looks even more like a film print then : )

  • Thanks man

  • Could never figure this out by myself. Thanks!

  • Thanks man! Worked like a charm!

  • thanks man continue your great tutorials!

  • THANKKKK YOUUUU!!!!

  • THANKS :d

  • Thanks!

    that realy helped me lol

  • What's your Screen Capture Software?

  • OMFG THANKS SO MUCH!

  • This was the fourth such tutorial I tried and but was the first one that got me the result I was looking for. Thanks a million, very much appreciated.

  • Really good tutorial. Love the music. Nothing like some of these annoying tutorials with horrible music where I have to instantly slam down the volume!

    Thanks!

  • EASIEST WAY BY FARRRRRR :THANKS!! :D

  • Awesome Tutorial,

Hey How can I make the top edges round only and not the bottom? Thanks

  • @B4uknowme09 hmm, good question. I guess one way would be to follow this tutorial then once you have finished, just use a rectangle over the top half of the rounded rectangle (if you have snapping on, it will snap to the edges and be the correct size).

  • @dimage1985 Thanks for your prompt reply but I didn't get it, so will try do something..

  • @B4uknowme09

I think you could make the photo rounded as per this tutorial, then use the crop tool. Keep the top rounded but crop out the lower rounded corners.

  • Appreciate this video thanks for creating it!

  • stuck. clicked on path selection, nothing happens so i cant see the achors or subtract

  • very helpful, thank you ^_^ .... and also, it was well presented :)

  • Hellou!

And if I want to make transparent background? What do I need to do?

    THX

  • @aazmath If it were me - i would CTRL+Click on the rounded rectangle layer to make a selection from it, then hide that layer, select the photo layer and click Add New Mask.

This will make the background transparent.

Note: If the photo is set to "Background" the mask option will be grayed out - you will need to double click on the background layer and click okay to make it an unlock layer.

  • @dimage1985 i try it. but i did not know if i did it right. can you make a video and show me? :)

  • Stuck!!!

  • short, simple, &easy to understand.

    thanks<3 :]

  • Adobe Certified, Computer Science major. Had to do this real quick for a client and totally forgot how - THANK YOU for this super easy reminder with wonderful music!!

  • It kind of doesn't work. When i click on the "rectangle" it doesn't do anyting. O_O

  • The first time I did it it worked...but now after clicking the path tool and then the shape it says no options for direct selection tool and doesn't let me invert the shape, it disappears from the menu?? Any idea why?

  • @SpockDon Sounds like you've switched to the "Direct Selection" tool (the white arrow pointer). To invert the shape, you need the "Path Selection" tool (the black arrow pointer). Hope that helps!

  • @dimage1985

    Sorted, thank you!

  • @dimage1985 I'm having this same problem. I'm on the path selection tool but i cannot select the rectangle as a path. Any ideas?

  • @duncbot hard to say without seeing your workspace - maybe try going back a few steps and trying again.

  • This was dead simple. Nice job. The Photoshop site instructions were 3 pages long.

  • I want every Photoshop tutorial to be EXACTLY like this.

  • Thank you for taking the time to prepared this short video, it is clear to understand and just what I needed.

  • The tool bar at the top has disappeared. It was there before though. Do you know how to get it back?

  • @ItsMad1 Window > Options. Or else just reset everything - Window > Workspace > Default Workspace.

  • @dimage1985 Thanks! Great video btw!

  • Hmm,I never find so i'll ask it here,im looking for like torn a picture with another picture, like u have the background and then another picture is like coming out of the other you understand?I really need

  • make sure it is set to "Shape Layers" instead of "Paths" or "Fill Pixels" THIS was THE mistery ... now it works 10x

  • I am sorry for my language i was pissed OFf because i realy need to do it i don't know doesn't making rounded corners ... something is missing or i am so damn stupid but i don't think I am stupid i follow u by every step ..

i'm sorry again for my behavior

  • @Dj7wiLLY Did you manage to get it to work? If not, make sure your image is RGB (Image > Mode > RGB Color) and when you select the Rounded Rectangle tool, make sure it is set to "Shape Layers" instead of "Paths" or "Fill Pixels". Those are two points that I didn't really show in the video, but could cause problems.

  • u mother FUCKER doesn't wooork u don't know to explain right FUCK YOU u pissed me OFF with ur INCOMPLETE tutorial

  • @Dj7wiLLY What specifically did you have trouble with?

  • When I make try and make the rounded rectangle, it's edges are too rounded and looks like an oval. When I try to make the radius 25 it says the value between 0.00 and 13 is blah blah. Help, please?

  • thank you<3

  • u didn-t mention that you have to add another layer.. i was trying to do the rectanngle on the bg layer for like half an hour..

  • @fefiss86 sorry about that. when you select the rounded rectangle tool, it should be set to a "shape layers" by default which adds a new layer automatically. Sounds like yours was set to "fill pixels". It does show that a new layer has been made in the video, but you're right, it's not very clear.

  • This is the easiest way ever :-) thank you

  • thanks

    awesome tutorial

    5 stars

  • thank you very very much!great tutorial!

  • Can you tell me why my "Path Selection" tool fails to select the rounded rectangle when I click on it? I would appreciate any help you can give me on this. Thank you.

  • @grifflesnaffle make sure you have selected the actual rounded rectangle layer, otherwise the Path Selection tool can get confused.

Another possibility could be that when you made the rounded rectangle, it was set to "Fill Pixels" rather than "Shape Layer", meaning the rounded rectangle is just pixels and the Path Selection tool can't click it.

  • Awzam. Thanks! :D

  • thoose explainations fail

  • Thanks you very much from Spain!!

  • Really good easy to follow video, thank you

  • Thanks for this video. It really helped me out big-time.

  • Sweetness. Thank you!

  • what if i want the excess part to be transparent instead of a color?

  • thank you so much!! :)

  • Thank you.

  • This is great, thank you!

  • very helpful and straight forward. other tutorials didn't seem to work for me.

  • Thanks. First proper video on how to do this. Could not figure it out until this!

  • THANK U SO MUCH... :)

  • This was helpful, thanks!

  • nice choice in music <3

  • Thankyou! just what i needed

  • how do i delete the border behind? the white border

  • You will need to make sure the photo is in a non-locked layer (double click on it in the layers palette and then press OK).

Then hold CTRL and click on the rounded rectangle layer. This will make it a selection.

Now click back on to the photo layer, and click "Add Layer Mask" (next to the FX button at the bottom of the layers palette).

If the rounded rectangle is still visible, hide or delete it, and you should now have a transparent background :D

  • Thanks . Real good Tut btw :D

  • I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have 7.0 and it all works out fine until I try to make the backround transparent. I tried to click CTRL it when I was on the layer, nothing happens, and when I add a layer mask, it blanks out the pic. I know that the pic I used is non-locked so what am I doing wrong? :/

  • cheers mate,

    very elegant tutorial vid

  • path tool wont select the rectangle :/

  • wonderful!

  • thanks dimage1985! :)

  • Can you add a radius into your corners once it's already fixed? I mean, can you re-edit the radius later?

  • I like short and sweet.

Thanks for the great tutorial! =)

  • amaziingggggg

  • OMG, Thank you so much. This is the 5th tutorial I had to go through and it worked. Thanks you so much! :)

  • this helped so much i come back to it whenever i need to do that. haha

  • Great tutorial. How do I make the background transparent instead of a solid color?

  • If it were me - i would CTRL+Click on the rounded rectangle layer to make a selection from it, then hide that layer, select the photo layer and click Add New Mask.

This will make the background transparent.

Note: If the photo is set to "Background" the mask option will be grayed out - you will need to double click on the background layer and click okay to make it an unlock layer.

  • That worked. You rock!! 5 stars.

  • cheers worked great :D

  • Thanks so much for that, excellent! Exactly what I was looking for and so easy compared to other suggestions I got. 10/10!

  • this is really cool -- easy to follow, and I love the no talking. for some reason i can NEVER remember how to do this every month or so. Brain block. Anyway, THANK YOU!!!

  • THANKS SO MUCH!!

  • fine..ty!

  • i thank you sooo much! This is just sooo easy and everybody just makes it so much harder, thaaank youu!

  • I'm in Photoshop CS2, and I cannot select the rectangle with the path tool. Any advice?

  • Answering my own question - make sure the shape layer option is selected in the option bar.

  • Thats fantastic, so easy but i would never have found it otherwise!!

  • amazing tutorial.. this is how EVERY tutorial should be set out. thank you so much!

  • Wooo hooo!! Agree with wadsterowaddy-- LEGEND!!

  • nice vid =D

  • Hooray, a rounded-edge tutorial that makes sense!

  • Legend!!

  • How did you adjust the corners?

  • Using the "Direct Selection tool" (press A on the keyboard. It's the white arrow you need, which selects the individual points on a shape. The black one selects the whole shape at once.

  • very nice, thnx (the intro to shadow part was fun)

  • Wow great!

    thanks!

    xo

  • Wait, this doesn't work in Photoshop 6? :(

  • it should work in 6. I just dont have access to version 6 to try it.

  • Works fine in 6, just did it.

  • Good to know. Thanks!

  • Thank you so much!

  • Thankyou!

It helped me, and it was so easy and quick to do :)

  • thank you

  • I dont know what I am doing wrong but when your automaticlly is filled with a black colour mine is clear also on the layers palette mine doesnt come up with a layer mask as your automaticlly does, what am i doing wrong?

  • You have to click on shape layers, instead of Paths.

  • Very good and easy to follow top marks! great fiming aswell. this is very easy thanks

  • put me to sleep with that music

  • The best! What programme did you use to film it?

  • Thanks! I use camstudio set to record full screen then used Vegas to zoom in and add text, etc

  • Tks :D

  • Thanks so much! This saved me hours of trying to understand how to do something so simple, haha! :)

  • thanks!

  • You're awesome! THANK U!

  • thank you so much.

  • Hi Dimage,

I have one question? How do I paste the photo to another photo after i've set it to rounded corner? My problem now is when i just drag the rounded corner photo to another photo...it will show the only cut off rounded photo...i know that it might be something to do with the inverting but how?

  • Hey, good question. There are at least 2 ways. One would be to simply flatten the whole thing which would leave the white rounded borders.

If you didn't want that, you could CTRL+Click on the rounded corner layer (on the white bit, not the text) to select the border. Then select the photo layer (make sure it's not a background layer - double click it and make it a layer), then click "Add Layer Mask". You'll probably need to invert the mask too (CRTL+I)

  • Hi Dimage,

don't mind if you could show me with a short video...lol...thanks for reply

  • How do you upload photos from photoshop because the format is Adobe Photoshop Imageand it won't upload to photo bucket hoe do I change that?

  • you have to save it as a JPG if it's a photo. If it's an image with mostly solid colours, then save it as a PNG.

Might be easiest to go to File > Save As for Web in photoshop.

  • nice, thank you
