London tea room? Can't even speak English! Why make such an effort to put something on youtube when they have not a clue what they are making? They look bloody awful.
@esqueritas London Tea room IN OSAKA, smartass. Like an Irish pub everywhere but Ireland. It's not going to be the real thing, it's just trying to fit the perception of the thing for the location it's actually in. The Japanese can have very odd ideas about western baked goods, and their flour is a little different, but they like their take on it and the rest of us don't have to eat it if we don't want to.

People who left unfriendly comments need to understand that she may "adapted" scones recipe to suit. So what if she wants to call it scones. Let her be creative.
OK folks, hang on just a bit. I know this tea shop, have been there numerous times and yes, have even tried her scones. They are the worst that I have ever tasted. First of all she shapes them like eggs and they fall apart once you pick them up. The dark smokey atmosphere doesn't help either in this B1 (underground 1st floor) restaurant. The pits. Someone has to tell her face to face, 'hey your scones taste like crap.' Perhaps I'll be the one to do it next time I go in there to eat their cakes.
Guys stop being racist, well so she can't make scones it was probably her first time we can't stick to eating burgers or other things we normally eat this is why God brought other cultures in the world try to be more respectful.
I don't know what she was making here. I don't think we call this scones. I wonder what she actually calls these. I guess Japanese people don't know what they are eating anyway but I don't think I'll be happy with this if I ordered scones and got this !
Well, being a European I think I'd suck at making sushi just as this chef sucks [big time] at making scones!! Maybe we should stick to our respective customs/culture AND recipes....
@zimt1970 I gotta dissagree. If you're bad at something it just means you're doing it wrong, or you need more practice. More people should be open-minded and willing to try new things and experience other cultures. What better way to do that than with food? Never deny yourself pleasures in life simply because you get discouraged.
@jackfrosty399 What I meant was that we should teach the recipes we really know, otherwise it's ridiculous. Clearly this lady has never seen how a true scone is, let alone how to prepare one! Her things look like very stony eclairs at best and definitely a far cry from fluffy, light scones. I second you on trying new foods and get the cultural exchange that comes with all that but.... why teaching something you can't master?
@zimt1970 Well I hear ya, that teaching something you haven't necessarily mastered is kind of dumb. But for all we know, this is how they like making their scones. Ya know? I've seen people make other types of food that are traditionally one way, yet they do a few steps differently, according to their liking. It all comes down to personal taste I guess.
I bake scones for my tea room ...i never use eggs...first time I have seen them used in scones...I do use sugar though..I love Sushi, I drive jap cars I have jap motorbikes and I love their culture...I am all for the Japanese being western and me being Japanese...lets all love each other...more peace less war....love you Japan!
It is cool, I had been looking for plain scone recipe because the scone for English afternoon tea is without any dried fruit and it's chewy. Thank's for posting and great work!

She's making griddle scones isn't she? I tried what she did, without melting the butter, used full cream milk, and skipped the baking powder.
Turned out ok for Griddles, now to make another batch with the baking powder

That's not a tablespoon of Saleratus! Maybe a teaspoon. BTW, 1 teaspoon of Saleratus is about 1.25 teasoons of baking soda.

Drop scones??? And besides that, the dough is definately over mixed. Results would be a very dry, tough scone.
