Mickayla's acro/dance solo "Material Girl" 2010

For not spending much time on it I am impressed. So what if she didn't have all the technique, shes a little girl having fun and has some awesome tricks, which is what acro is tricks and dancing. For not being a full time dancer it was very good. You don't always have to dance to be professional you can dance for just fun.

She did great, to think that she isn't a dancer. Her skills were great, but I got to say that sometimes her knees aren't straight and she has to pointe her toes. :) Anyway, good job! Amazing work! :)

I feel like dance is more about being able to do tricks now a days. She didnt have the "dance" aspect of it. Yes, it was entertaining. And yes, she is an amazing little gymnast, but this is not a gymnastics competition. I feel sorry for all the little girls that spend hours on hours at the studio working on technique and this girl beat them because she can flip. Dance is more then the ability to do tricks. She did do good, but I disagree with winning the whole thing.

@danceyourtutuoff Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.... She didn't go out there and beg to win... she just went out and did what she was told/taught to do... She does read all of the comments on her videos, and what she took away from your comment, was that she isn't really very good at dance and she didn't deserve to win... thanks.

@dancerr0005 Thank you, she is a very busy girl. She is really a gymnast but she loves to dance too. She only dances a couple hrs a week, so we have been amazed how well she has done in dance with the very little amount of time that she puts into it. She just loves to be on the stage and loves to perform.

she could definately be a good dancer!! work with her on her technique just a bit more tho. have her take a ballet class it will do a lot for her gymnastics as well. he leaps are there but she does need some work. she could be amazing! awesome tumbling skills!

ok well the technique isnt there at all but her gymnastics skills are. Maybe if she improved on her technique this dance would be better. But still ur really good at the gymnastics.

@Balletgirl48, No... the technique isn't there, nor will it probably ever be there. She spent a total of 30 min/week on this routine. She isn't a full time "dancer"... She is a gymnast. She has never taken a ballet class in her life. I think she does a pretty good job at this for no more time than she puts into it. And obviously, so did some judges... She won 4 competitions and got 3rd at nationals. Not too bad for her bad technique I would say!

this girl is very good at tumbling, but where is the acro??

acro is alot more then just turning sequences and walking on you hands

wheres the arm stands, shoulder stands, head stands?

in acro you need to show that you have control and strength in your body, also that you have musicality.

it's not meant to be acro, like gymnastics acro... it is the category she best fit in for dance competition, called acro/dance. it is the category that allows tumbling. there is no requirement for arm stands and such. I think if you watch some of her gymnastics videos, you will find she has quite a bit of control and strength. she has enough so that she has made USA Gymnastics TOPs national team. She does dance as a fun thing. She only dances 30 minutes a week for each class.
