@MrTrickBike O-Gauge trains often have moving pilots. They do that so that the engines can take tighter turns as most O-gaugers don't have a ton of space for big sweeping curves.
@TheZepmeister All of the tanks on the tank train are connected together with hoses. This allows all of the tanks to filled at the same time from one central source. It basically turns the train into one giant tank.
I think I paid around $700 for mine. Yeah, it' think it's worth the money. It's a very nice engine and the cars are really well done. The review pretty much says that...I think.
I like lionel because of the sound variety and railsounds, crewtalk, etc One thing i didnt like is when they cut corners on detailing such as on trucks and others.
I like MTH bcuz they made detailing one of their main priorities out of the last 3 yrs. However, what I didn't like about mth is that most of their made models have similar of the same exact protosound. for example a N.S. AC6000 and BNSF ES44 have technically same exact sounds .
No, so far I've only used Lionel and MTH smoke fluid. This engine is using the Lionel fluid that came with the set. I've got a big bottle of MTH fluid that I use for everything else. I'm thinking about buying some christmas scented fluid for the holidays though.
The "Tank Train" was called that because all of the tanks were connected by hoses so that the entire train acted as one giant tank that could be filled and emptied all at the same time. So, instead of having to fill each tank car one at the time, the hoses allow all tanks to be filled simultaneously. Make sense?
Maybe it's just me, but I think this is flippin sweet... sounds are great, and the chat is great... nice to hear different voices for a change... Tankers are really nice as well, I think Lionel did a great job with this set...
There are some details on the engine that could have been better executed, but yes, overall I think it's a very nice set. The tank cars are excellent and the engine sounds are great as well.
Great looking model. If the box is custom painted, you know it will be a great train. Those tankers are really detailed. Great horn too! I want this set really badly. Five stars!
the problem with lionel trains the whole front moves with the curves unlike bachmann trains

In your opinion, should I get this set? Will it be worth the 700-800 bucks it costs? I need someone's opinion about it.

They both have their pros and cons, so it's really just a matter of preference. I personally tend to prefer MTH, but that's just me,

Do you know what the hoses that connect the car are use for?

its not scaled properly. The fuel tank for the engine does not sit low enough.

Not bad for a Lionel train set, but I still prefer MTH better crew chatter, and more realistic horns, and bell and train sounds
UPHeritage 2 years ago
Agreed. I like this set overall but there were some aspects that were a bit of a let down. I'll rant about that on my website's blog though.
