I'm a motorcycle enthusiast and a Harley man at heart...... But I would love to have this bike in my collection someday. The 1980 Honda CBX 1000 is such a beautiful machine!
My brother had one identical to this back in the day. A unique classic for sure. It really does sound similar to a Porsche 911. it was a bit top heavy tho' but still a great bike to own.
@trojwl Hard to believe that I didn't notice the 85 mph speedo. What a laugh! My old (1986) Honda 700 had the speedo numbers in bold on the 5's, instead of on the 0's. 55 mph was like double bold!
My jaw dropped when I saw one first time in the '80s. The way it leans into a turn, it's so composed with its big "breasts", sort of like a beautiful sexy woman. Then there is the sound and the power. Very smooth machine. Still my favorite motorcycle ever.
@dvamateur Pretty cool machine, for sure. I was pretty lucky to have been able to take this nice example for a short spin. It probably hasn't been out of the garage again since!
Nice clip. No annoying tunes, no annoying wind noise, steady camera, good commentary with a sense of humor that actually conveyed what its like to ride this bike. Need more like this.
Oh and by the way, cool bike, I remember the late seventies when I had a Kawi kz1000. When the CBX and KZ1300 came they just blew our minds.
Almost traded the 1000 for a KZ1300 but didnt cuz the 1000 in reality was a better bike, more nimble and quicker. Now I wish I'd bought one of those sixes.
@idrivebmw335 Kind words. Thanks. I'm of the opinion that a motorcycle riding video with commentary (good or bad) is always more entertaining than one with only a music background.
The CBX is an awesome machine for sure, but back in the day, you were probably better off with the KZ1000 as your daily rider.
I remember 1st time I saw one of these at a bike show back in the late seventies.
Was so out of this world compared to everything else around back then, was simply stunning to look at, such a wide looking engine and 6 pots !!! was staggering to imagine it all. You can only imagine how many people drooled all over it, wanting it on there wish list, me included. I never did have one. :-))
@Bevoin1970 A very cool machine indeed. I'm lucky to have gotten the opportunity to take a spin on such a pristine example. I made this video about 2 years ago, by the way, and I'm pretty sure that the bike hasn't been out of the shed again since! This summer I'm gonna try and get out for a short ride on this guy's Honda 400/4 Supersport. Another awesome, lightly used classic in his collection.
@dprider02 I'd love to see this bike again in HD on a lovely sunny day.
You mention the 400/4 another classic bike. At the time I never fancied one of those, but today, now Im older and wiser, I'd jump at the chance to have one.
Wish I could see this chaps collection... ha ha. Nice to know there are people out there preserving this great machines for future eyes. :-)
Evan is wrong. They were made from 1979 to 1982. I have a pristine '82 with K cams, Mac headers and K & N filters. Fast, yes but the "cool factor" of the 6 pipes sticking out the front makes the bike.
A nice 1980 bike, is this a Japanese one or a Marysville bike? (should say on the headstock) Best pipes for one of these is the stainless steel Pipemasters system. Is the owner an ICOA member? (international CBX Owners Association)
yeah nice machine.....it was a good idea to fit aftermarket crash-bars....otherwise of you were unfortunate enough to slide the bike on it's side half of the engine would get wipe-out
One of the most beautiful motorycycles in the world, if not the most beautiful one! 6 cylinders, 24 valves, fantastic engineering. It went out of favor, because of the CB1100F, which was probably more efficient, narrower, and all. But nothing touches the beauty of the CBX. I consider the 80's a pinnacle of styling. Together with Ferrari Testarossa, the CBX is one of my favorite vehicles. Kawasaki GPZ900 was nice too, though. Top Gun anyone?
The way I understand it, the CBX came about through Honda wanting to showcase their engineering might and industry leading technology. What ever the reasons, they sure came up with an awesome machine! I'm very glad to have gotten the opportunity to ride one.
Thanks for your kind comments, All the bikes run perfectly and I do ride them occasionally , riding the 1926 Harley in todays traffic is a real challenge. I will take your advice and will publish in the future some clips on every bike in the collection

I just watched the video tour of your motorcycle collection. VERY impressive! Are they all runners? Do you ride them occasionally? You could make some interesting riding videos on those bikes, and I hope you do.
I also have to ask ... have you ever driven on the Yungas Road ( "road of death") down there in Bolivia? I have taken some bus rides through the mountains in Colombia ... it was pretty scary, but nothing to compare with that road!
His comment about how it would sound with pipes on it is bang on; I went from stock to Pipemaster 6-into-6 on my '80 and nothing else on the road sounds like it.
Good video, a really nice bike, I have a a 1979 one in silver which I am rebuilding, and the aim is to get it looking like new - and sounding like that - I do have a video loaded when it was 30 last Nov..Cheers
yeah you're righ..porsche O.o well he shifted just as he passed by you, yeah I-6 smoother than I-4 but more high rev and power i guess.... i dnt like cylinders sticking out :P

I have a friend who took two CBX engines and made a V-12 out of it. He hand-built a space-frame for it, and uses 2 Weber 2-BBL fuel carburetors.
Hand-made manifold and tank, etc.
It's beautiful and sounds unbelievable. Like an Offy V-12 or a WWII Merlin engine.
This guy is a genius - also built 3 bikes around Ferrari car engines.
KutWrite 2 years ago
That would be something to see (and hear)! Does he have the engine actually driving anything?
Wish I had skills like that.
