think if its based on any id engine it more likely to be a very heavily modified wolfenstein engine. or even an early doom style engine

saying that cause, if design was for release in 93, and doom was released in 93.

its likely the engine went in for a serious rewritte or conversion over to a doom style engine, hence the delays, the new doom engine would have rendered a wolfenstein engine old hat over night

but one off the stand out fps of that decade

as far as i remember at the time, they made there own engine, not sure what it was based on though, but was delayed quite a bit because of it, which probably did the jag a load of damage.

this was supposed to be the launch game, if everyone got a copy of this instead of cybermorph with their jag, the system might have been a little more successful

after all this was the most astoundingly technicaly fantastic game of its generation.

but came out almost a year after the jags release.

@scarmulletpart3 eh you would be better off just getting an emulator, because a Jaguar online is like 50 bucks, same for the Alien vs Predator game...about 50 bucks, so you'd be spending an easy 100 bucks right there.

That wouldn't be so bad if there was a ton of great games, but this is really the only stand out title for the system.

@CPS2 The bite move is an instant kill to marines and the strongest attack the alien has so as long as it keeps it up any enemies it runs into will die fast. Since the alien can't heal itself this does make sense.

@timemonkey Lol it's weird. Alien vs. Predator=Alien cannot restore health Aliens vs. predator (AvP3)=Aliens automatically regenerate health. (Hope I spelled regenerate right)

@BaptistsSolder Its not Quake engine neither Doom engine its built on its own engine (google it). I dont quite understand how could you think its quake engine since the levels are completely flat, the enemies are sprites, etc. Nowhere near Quake engine, not even close. The engine is imho more obsolette than Doom engine actually.

This game was creepy as hell - I couldn't play it for more than I guess an hour a day or so or I literally would have shit my pants. Every new door to open lead me to another heartattack ... LOL

I am proud to say that I had a jaguar and had this game too. I never finisshed with the Alien :(

I also have a Nintendo 64 and nintendo delivers best graphics overall.

Alien vs predator is an awesome game, but overall, Jaguar sucked a lot!

Yeah I agree. But it was amazing what Atari put out for the time. The graphics looked pretty cool but still cheezy because they didn't completely use 3D textures. But N64 was kick ass and I think Nintendo has always been in the lead with the console gaming industry.

the game runs on a custom engine made by the developer. It was different on each console because of the capabilities.
