you right wonder021.. the dam is enclosed by mountains.. and when clouds form, they are trapped and tend to keep circulating around the dam, and they grow more dangerous every minute... and not only do clouds get trapped because of the mountain, so does wind, its truly retarded.. but the dam fishing is so good

lol pacrat.. dude this happens so often.. and so sudden you'll never believe.. people can tell you stories and stories about this dam.. a storm similar to this hit us at night around 9pm, december 2010.. only thing we had lightning and thunder.. as if it was right above our heads.. 3 days worth of food got soaked, beds, clothing, camping stuff.. the wind broke our steel legged gazibo into pieces.. this dam made me a soldier.. certified and qualified

Typical of Sterkfontein Dam. I am an avid sports fisherman and it has happend on many occasion that a "sudden" erupts at this Dam. I recon it produces it's own "weather" given the size of the dam and altitude as well ?
