Atheists may and do have profound feelings of wonder and awe and may be very responsive to music and art. Don't generalize. I don't know this composer but my son just played the vibraphone/xylophone parts at festival and I wanted to hear it again. It's a very lovely piece, very atmospheric.
he does not live by himself either. I have met the man and his wife many times. they are really the nicest people i will ever know! My band has a CD of maslankas music coming out soon...this is one of the pieces on it. I love it!

The Low Brass is virtually non-existant. The many fortisimo parts should have them playing almost OVER the rest of the band IMO.

This is a really good job. This and Morning Star are my favs, but i love this one most of all because i played it with the Dallas Wind Symphony

Interesting facts about Maslanka:
He lives by himself in the middle of nowhere and just sits around until ideas like this song just come to him.
He is an atheist but most of his music has a religious sound to it.

David Maslanka is NOT an atheist.

@mahler9scholar True. Not quite a Christian either. Just a very sincere individual
