  • कोई दोस्त है न रकीब है,

    तेरा शहर कितना अजीब है.

    वह जो इश्क था वह जूनून था,

    ये जो हिज्र है ये नसीब है.

    यहाँ किसका चेहरा पढ़ करूं,

    यहाँ कौन इतना करीब है.

    मैं किसे कहूं मेरे साथ चल,

    यहाँ सब के सर पे सलीब है.

  • I can not express in words how beautiful and deep this ghazal is...truely heart-touching!

  • very nice

  • very touchy for those who live wihout their freinds

  • @hyderabadee

    raqeeb means enemy

  • @vishitrade Raqeeb doesn't mean enemy.. it means someone very close

  • @chinto1985 Raqeeb does NOT mean someone very close. It means rival, someone you're competing against, opposite of friend.

Other meanings in case anyone is confused. Hijar means journey. In this it's implying journey away from home. Naseeb means Qismat or in English, fate or destiny. In this it's implying living away from home is written in fate.

Saleeb means cross. In this it's implying death. "Sir pai saleeb hai" as in cross on your grave commonly used by Christians. Metaphor for death.

  • @OreoCookieOreo Urdu is my mother tongue and I know it better than you... The word raqeeb is derived from the root word Qurb i.e Qurbat which means someone very close. and Hijar means Judai not journey urdu word for journey is safar. yes you are right naseeb means qismat. You are right again Saleeb means Cross.

  • koi dost hai na raqeeb hai......

    TERA SHAHR KITNA AJEEB HAI....

    !!WAH KYA BAAT HAI!!

  • here raqeeb means rival... or competitor

  • @hyderabadee raqeeb's doesn't mean guardian.it's mean is enemy

  • @ghalib62

you r right mate. raqeebh is enemy

  • I used to listen to this when I was kid, like 12, and now I am 19 and, I still love it.. :O

  • @hyderabadee I think here saleeb means metophorically dead, like in a graveyard they put a cross on the head of grave.Na dost hai na raqeeb hai (raqeeb means the other person- competitor for your love)

  • @hyderabadee

raqeeb means, your competetor, a person who also loves ur loved one....here poet is referring raqeeb as an enemy

    Hizra mean, pain of seperation

  • @hyderabadee Raqeeb means competitor & not guardian.

  • class !!! touchy

  • vo jo ishq tha vo junoon tha,

ye jo hijr hai ye naseeb hai.

    amazing.......true and touchy...........love u jagjit sir.

  • which cd is this song from?

  • nice long life jagjit

  • Hijre means the moment we share.

Hence the line "Ye jo hijre hai ye naseeb hai."

Saleeb could mean a cross but here it refer's to the barb wire christ wore on his head.

And yes raqeeb is a friend and a guardian who is with you all time's.

  • @hyderabadee no dear, saleeb means ....devil, raqeeb means enemy.

  • sir, this is the most beautiful gazal or urs,i ever heard, this is very close to my heart. thanx for singing this gazal for us.

  • @hyderabadee & for globescape:

Raqeeb is meant here "Foe" (Denotative meanings of Rqeeb is the person who is close to your lover)

Hijr means away or separated from your lover

Saleeb means Cross but here poet wants to say Sorrow is fixed for everyone.

  • Koi dost hai na raqeeb hai,

    tera sehar kitna ajeeb hai.

Woh jo ishq tha woh junoon tha,

yeah jo hijre hai ye naseeb hai.

    Yahan kiska chehra padha karoon,

    yahan kaun itna kareeb hai.

Main kise kahoon mere saath chal,

yahan sab ke sar pe saleeb hai.

    ***

  • what does raqeeb, hijr, saleeb mean?

  • @globescape

    रकीब/raqeeb=enemy/दुश्मन

सलीब/saleeb=cross (for explanation see manish’s comment)

    हिज्र/Hijre=Sepration/वियोग, विरह

  • @globescape,

    Raqeeb means = enemy

hijar means = alone, lonesome, go faraway, separate

    Saleen mean = Christ cross

hope you understand and enjoy this ultimate poetry.

    Regards,

    Shah
