People say don't buy from a newspaper ad well I have 2 labs from the newspaper and they are healthy and active. I know there are some that breed and raise unhealthy puppies but if you do your homework and check them out first and ask to see both parents . A unreputable breeder wont let you see the parents or avoid questions from prospective buyers. I bred my lab female only once and believe me I screened all prospective buyers and asked alot of questions. I NEVER buy from a pet store they lie!
if i opened a pet store, i would not get puppies from mills. i would get stray puppies off the street. and if mills sent me puppies i would not accept them. i would put them down because they had problems. pet stores should rescue stray puppies from the street. report this to your local pet store.

A pet store known for using puppy mills as their source opened in my town last year. My friend and I got a group together and the five of us stood outside on the street for 3 hours protesting. Less than 6 months later they closed. We were on the news and in the paper - we don't know if our protest made any affect on them closing but it felt really good to do.

It is literally impossible. DO big kennels have bad conditions? Sometimes FOR SURE. You should encourgae people to adopt their pets from shelters. DOgs in their are just as loving as any puppy in a petshop, and their comes a lot of benefits from adoption, like vacinations, and more.

That is why we got our puppy from a nice kennel who took great care of the puppies, and a fact about puppy mills is that 1, kennels are different then puppy mills, so don't go off saying I bought one directly from a puppy mill. And number 2, they debark puppies by shoving an iron pole down their throat to damage the vocal chords. Vote NO against puppy mills.
Most people cant adopt dogs from shelters cause of all there rules, cant have kids under this age, and whatever else they got and turn alot of people away for silly/stupid to good reasons depending on person. Thats why people shell out more money for a pet store puppy, because all they have to do is heres the money now give me my puppy, plus they can do instalment plans by 50 bucks a month as an example! Or they go other abouts getting a dog outside shelter setting. Which is more the problem.

some Puppy Mills themselves are horrible & animals live in the unspeakable. And yes, there are those petstores that buy from the greedy puppy mills. But i know some very reputable breeders that sell to very reputable pet stores, and to say that no one should ever buy from a petstore is the same as BSL trying to tell everyone not to buy certain breeds of dogs. if you don't know your petstore history ask around do some homework on them find out the truth BEFORE you decide if they are good or bad.
I know that people say not to buy from petstores because of the puppy mills, but what about the puppies themselves? They cant just sit in the petstore until they get put down for not being bought....I bought my poodle x pomeranian Chiko from a petstore, and i dont regret it, he is the best thing that ever happened to me. BUT he has seperation anxiety.

The Amish are actually the worst offenders.Their puppy mills are well known by dog rescuers and have the most despicable conditions. Just recently, Amish dog mill owner David Yoder illegally gassed 93 dogs rather than provide veterinary care. If you ask me, these places all need to be shut down, especially the ones run by the Amish.

Yeah, tell people to stop buying at Mills but don't tell them where to get the puppies. Give an alternative so people can hang onto something. Good message but you are missing a huge part of the information you should give. I have never bought a puppy or any other animal for that matter, (except for goldfish and such) so I have no idea where to get a puppy if I wanted to (I don't want to though)

Most puppy mills are not reg. kennels. Thus they dont have to follow standards which is agist the law. I work at a kennel and we take care of our dogs. The puppies get shots when they should. Dogs are taken to the vet if need. And there is no more then 4 dogs to a cage if that. The dogs have a indoor and out door running area. In side the temp is control. They always have fresh food and water. I just want u all to know that not all places are puppy mills. But i agree that Pup mills r sick!!!!
This is the saddest thing ive ever heard :( I got My puppy from a friend who got their dog at the Shelter. Tickle (my puppy) takes off after her mother..strong, brave, and happy to have a home :) The puppy mills are just making Earth more cruel than it already is!

@Meeepers There is a difference between a supporting a good thing, and supporting a bad thing. Not ALL puppy mills are owned by Amish. Some (most) puppy mills are cruel people who have no desire to take the proper steps to insuring the dogs health and want to only make money. An Amish can breed dogs and sell them without puting them through horrifying and inhumane conditions. Quiet frankly, the Amish don't need support, they do pretty darn well without us interfeering.

If no one bought them, there would be no profit in breeding the dogs this way. However, I seriously doubt someone looking to make a profit from breeding dogs would treat them poorly, as malnutrition and disease are hardly the way to produce healthy, saleable puppies.

Actually, a lot of pet stores are able to avoid buying from puppymills by making sure the breeders they buy from are licensed, inspected several times a year, and that the pups they sell are checked by a veterenarian before they are sold. But there are bad ones out there, for sure.

if i opened a pet store, i would not get puppies from mills. i would get stray puppies off the street. and if mills sent me puppies i would not accept them. i would put them down because they had problems. pet stores should rescue stray puppies from the street. report this to your local pet store.

A pet store known for using puppy mills as their source opened in my town last year. My friend and I got a group together and the five of us stood outside on the street for 3 hours protesting. Less than 6 months later they closed. We were on the news and in the paper - we don't know if our protest made any affect on them closing but it felt really good to do.

This video does more harm than good for those puppies. Sure it gets the point across that puppy mills are bad (which they obviously are) but then you say that buying puppies from pet stores is supporting puppy mills. I have never gotten a dog from a pet store, but don't discourage others from buying puppies at the stores because what will happen to those few puppies sold? They will be sent back to the mill! So if you don't care about a pedigree, help a shelter dog or a pet store puppy.

That is why we got our puppy from a nice kennel who took great care of the puppies, and a fact about puppy mills is that 1, kennels are different then puppy mills, so don't go off saying I bought one directly from a puppy mill. And number 2, they debark puppies by shoving an iron pole down their throat to damage the vocal chords. Vote NO against puppy mills.

some Puppy Mills themselves are horrible & animals live in the unspeakable. And yes, there are those petstores that buy from the greedy puppy mills. But i know some very reputable breeders that sell to very reputable pet stores, and to say that no one should ever buy from a petstore is the same as BSL trying to tell everyone not to buy certain breeds of dogs. if you don't know your petstore history ask around do some homework on them find out the truth BEFORE you decide if they are good or bad.

Just recently, Amish dog mill owner David Yoder illegally gassed 93 dogs rather than provide veterinary care. Yeah, tell people to stop buying at Mills but don't tell them where to get the puppies. Give an alternative so people can hang onto something. Most puppy mills are not reg. kennels. Thus they dont have to follow standards which is agist the law. I work at a kennel and we take care of our dogs. The puppies get shots when they should. Dogs are taken to the vet if need. And there is no more then 4 dogs to a cage if that. The dogs have a indoor and out door running area. In side the temp is control. They always have fresh food and water. I just want u all to know that not all places are puppy mills. But i agree that Pup mills r sick!!!!

Some (most) puppy mills are cruel people who have no desire to take the proper steps to insuring the dogs health and want to only make money. An Amish can breed dogs and sell them without puting them through horrifying and inhumane conditions. Quiet frankly, the Amish don't need support, they do pretty darn well without us interfeering.

Even though many were rescued, many had their carefree lives cut so short and put up with even more torturous conditions. We have to stop this before it gets out of control. NO MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY YOU MAKE, YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER EVER TREAT ANY ANIMAL THIS WAY!

i got my pup from the pound and this is horrible you watch those shows on animal planet bout them finding people that abuse animals well then why the hell don't they get these guys then?!?!? this is just horrible. whoever is cruel enough to have dogs like that penned up like that should go to jail i want to shut down all those mills save the puppies and burn tall these demonic place to ashes

my dog is from a puppy mill. she lost some of her teeth and one of her nails is turned the wrong way. Also we think she can't see so well.

If no one bought them, there would be no profit in breeding the dogs this way. However, I seriously doubt someone looking to make a profit from breeding dogs would treat them poorly, as malnutrition and disease are hardly the way to produce healthy, saleable puppies.

so sad. People need to report these mills if they become aware of one. These animals are not treated in a humane manner. Report to the SPACA in your state and they will direct you to an agency. Also the humane society of the united states can help too. Greed my friend. These poor things.

If you want to help them I'd recommend reporting it to a local shelter... Avoid PETA though, sometimes they don't do much better for the animals

this is really sad! cats are awesome to! if i become a millionare or at least rich. i will buy many dogs and will take care of them. also i would pay these puppymills just for food and care, if theyy use money or even a cent for themselves i will close them down}:|

Actually, a lot of pet stores are able to avoid buying from puppymills by making sure the breeders they buy from are licensed, inspected several times a year, and that the pups they sell are checked by a veterenarian before they are sold. But there are bad ones out there, for sure.

The mills would go broke and the dogs would be put down or given away. But the short term suffering of one generation of puppies is surely worth it to stop hundreds more from being abused in this manner?

They are taken to shelters once they find that they are not selling.. Then numbers will go down and we find that that particular puppy store will then close.

It's sad to think that that puppy is probably not going to have a great life but you are saving other puppies by not buying it. Moreover that puppy is probably going to end up in a Kennal, so if you want to help dogs, buy them from Kennals.

@mermaidia12345 Those puppies could be traced back to the source. Pet stores should own up and work more with legit breeders who can prove they take very good care of their puppies. And if companies complain about too much costs, hey consumers can take their business elsewhere.
