REM is trying to make a different version of one of the most popular songs Made in America by George Gershwin for Porgy and Bess. There are countless singers that tried, some with success or not to give it a new spin. I myself, in my nothingness have a nice collection, among them Ella Fitzgerlad & Barry Manilow, Janis Joplin, Billy Eckstine, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Al Jarreau...well, the biggies of the biggies went into doing Summertime. This version by REM is flat, monotonous and boring.

Years and year ago.. I had a bootleg show from the Pageantry tour.. this song was on it.

In my mind, it would have been the perfect album closer to Out of Time.

Or they could have put a little production on it and placed it on Reveal, therefore fitting the theme of summer on Reveal.
