  • I'm thinking about studiying in either heidelberg or münich for 6 months. Pros and cons anyone?

  • This small town hosts more than 1 million visitors from all across the world each year.

Heidelberg has 140.000 residents and 30.000 of them are students.

    Dear hannilore

What a beautiful place you live. The hills remind me a little bit of LaCrosse but the beautiful buildings and statues etc. are amazing. And I see the bridge where I think close by is a restuarnt that serves mussels. Do you remember?

    Love

    Tom

  • sehr sehr!!!!

  • My friend and I will be traveling to Heidelberg soon, along with many other locations in Western Europe!

check out our travel blog!: 2americannomads (dot) wordpress (dot) com

  • Nice to see things about this town. i was born there in July 1960. Dad in the Army, but I don't know anything about Heidelberg so this is very interesting to me. Wish i could go visit there.

I asked the visitors bureau a couple times to send me some info about the town but I never heard anything from them.

  • Was stationed near Karlsruhe with the US Army 1971-72. We would take the train up to Heidelberg and just walk around - couldn't get enough of the city. Wish I'd had a better camera then, but I would have gone broke taking photos!

  • Someone Speak Spanish? or jemand spricht Spanisch?

someone who can give a small synopsis of how it is to live there

The place looks beautiful but as they have fun there?

  • I was stationed at the Army Hospital (130th Station Hospital) near Heidelberg from 1979 to 1982. I loved my tour there. I lived in Ketch.

  • @LailahAngel

There is no such place as Heidelberg .

  • check FELIZE auf youtube

  • I'll be there in one week. If you see me walk up and say Hi. I'll be wearing a green shirt and a gawky grin. I'll be saying things like, "Look at me - I'm in Germany". I might even be singing something like "The hills are alive". Pitchers of beer are only €3? Yea, I'll definitely be singing that tune. Instead of "Thank You" I'll say "Donkey Shit".

  • Great! Reminds me of when we lived there in the early 1970's. Stationed with USAREUR&7Army back then for four years. Four wonderful years. Love Heidelberg!

  • @MrlSMAIL1993 echt wo wohnste sag mal pls stadtteil. wenn du 126 wohnst ich sag dir wir 124 machern euch fertig.TÜRKEN,RUSSEN UND KIRCHHEIMER ASSIS VOR!!! xD

  • I'm going there as soon as I get my passport. I've been waiting 10 weeks now. I'm taking a German class in Heidelberg strictly as an edu-vacation. I've got a few questions. For example, people seem to dress more on the casual side. I'll be there for 4-6 weeks mainly depending on if I get decent accommodation at good price. Anybody got insight they want to share? Click on my name and email me. Danke.

  • @NelsonClick

I got my passport the very next day after I wrote this.

Ok, in English: I was stationed in Heidelberg , wonderful experience, went out with Sandra Jack, German girl, think of her often :)

  • Welcome-Heidelberg erwartet Sie!

  • the fireworks you saw were part of the so called "schlossbeleuchtung". the castle is symbolically burned down and then there is a big firework. it is done 3 times a year and it symbolizes the destruction of the castle by the french;)

  • IceColdKilla214 > "..symbolizes the destruction of the castle by the french."

Should also point out the Schloßbeleuchtung ("Castle Illumination") actually started in 1613 when Prince Frederic V welcomed the English Princess Elizabeth Stuart, his new bride (my relative), to Heidleberg. That event featured fireworks & castle lit with bright colors. That evolved into the modern event representing the 1693 French invasion which destroyed the castle & much of the city.

  • Heidelberg is a beautiful city, I visited there in 2005, and whilst there i went to Mannheim and visited the Wasserturm, the Telecommunication tower and Luisenpark, Germany is a very good country to visit I would recommend it to anyone

  • rotemburg or heidelberg

  • *sigh* I miss home

  • Yeah, Like Rammstein!

  • The music doesn't fit at all. Johann Strauss is an Austrian. You should use German music you know.

  • Austrian or german, doesn't matter. It belongs to the same culture.

  • To oldfurniture: Your statement is so wrong. It DOES matter. I am German and I can say we don't share the same culture with Austria. I don't like Austrian people and I am sure they don't like us, too.

  • The music is Johannes Brahms Violin Concerto. The last time I checked, Brahms was.......German!

  • Reply to Pedrow61: Yes, it is Brahms' Violin Concerto indeed (3rd movement). I understand that the poster of this video has changed the music since I last posted. Originally, the music on this video was Johann Strauss (the second)'s "Emperor Waltz" (Kaizer-Walzer, Op.437). As you know, J. Strauss was an Austrian.

  • Heidelberg for ever! gruss an alle heidelberger

  • I miss Heidelberg! I used to live there.

  • and i miss you

Gel?

    Alles gute, meine Freunden.
