The reason Ford was able to sell much more than the others is because Ford came out first. Henry Ford made the very first car and all they had was Ford for a while. @omen351 Ford has zero for interchange and Chevy does.A Chevy guy can get a waterpump real easy,walking out easily out of any auto parts store.Ford on the other hand,asked if reverse flow or not reverse flow.Same with a Ford starter,asked if an auto or manual transmission.The noses on a Ford starter are differant for an auto and manual transmission.Ford does 6 month changes too and this one reason for no interchange.
@wafrederick you can interchange with ford..but chevy guys dont get that ..ford had a few different engine designs ,,ford goe's by a family of engines..like windsor.. F,e ..385 series..MEL .. flathead,,y block ..cleveland , and ..M...i dont know were you live..but its just as easy to get parts for a ford motor as it is a chevy ..and all older ford starter's are just about the same except for the nose cone..you can even use an amc starter on a ford ..its real easy to swap parts
@390merc65 That is not true.I know about Ford parts,mostly one year interchange and have looked this up in the interchange book,the Hollander.Most transmissions are one year only.302 heads won't fit on a 351.Chevy is differant on this,305 heads do fit on a 350 easily.Ford engines are twice the money to build.Some did find put in a Chevy in a Ford and found out why.The front of the oil pan on a Ford does not clear the front axle since the oil pump is in the front on a Ford.

@390merc65 It is true.For example,an AODE out of a 1998 F150 is is only 1998 only.Ford decided to change the wiring.Looked this up in the hollander.Ford loves doing 6 month changes.Most yards ask for the 8th vin if looking for a 4.6 for the 1997 to 2003 F150s.The 2004 to 2008 3 valve tritons,$700.00 to change plugs and break off requiring a special extraction tool to remove the broken part of the head.Plugs are $25.00 a piece,#7989 Champions which are a one piece

@wafrederick why wont 302 heads fit a 351?..did some chevy guy tell you this???..that is also 100% wrong..for decades ford guys would swap out 289/302 heads to put 351 heads on them..now dont get mixed up with the 351 cleveland or m motor,,ok..i wont get into that now....you can take heads off a 428 and put them on a 360 truck motor and vise versa with no trouble at all ..if you read something make sure you understand what you are reading,,and dont let a chevy guy tell you about fords

@390merc65 Yes they are twice the money to build.the 1970s Ford engines were pieces of shit,rattled and banged with the bottom ends falling out.The 351M and 400 were known for this.The 360 Ford was a piece of shit too.The creator of the small block chevy wanted to make it cheap to build and that is what happened.The chevy is the most popular crate engine out there.The water jackets are in a differant spot in the 302 heads.Fords are more expensive to fix,shops love this

@390merc65 Same with the Ford Focuses with the sohc 2.0 vin p,I worked on a couple and this engine is nothing but a huge pos.Valve seats drop out does damage including rod through the block.I cuss everytime when working on a Ford!Ford leaves no room to work on their vehicles at all called doing the hard way.GM and Chrysler do it the simple way which Ford should do it.One transmission shop in my area I know very well,90% are Fords in for transmission repairs and rebuilds
@wafrederick i guess you over looked all the 80's era v6 gm;s like monte carlos were gm would wrap the wire harness all around the v6 then shove it tight against the fire wall but put a 2 foot long fan shroud on .nothing is perfect ,lets talk about alot of the 2,8 and 3,1's the blow up and are a pain in the ass to change ..or for some dumb reason chevy put the brake adjuster up under the wheel cylinder so you could not adjust the rear brakes correctly..now that is some top GM engineering there

@390merc65 You mean rustang?GM's stuff is much easier.You can take any ecm out of any GM and put it in another GM vehicle.Ford,you can't do this and it is done once after it is programed.Plus Ford's electronic transmissions are a huge pita to diagnose and fix.I know a transmission that bangs their head against the wall when fixing one and 90% of vehicles in for transmission problems are fords.Ford has not come out with a proven diesel yet.Most shops see money when a Ford comes for repairs

@wafrederick at least when a ford comes in the shop..like you say [they see repairs]..but when a chevy comes in the shop..they see worn out junk with no chance of repair ..when a chevy comes in the shop you dont know if it has disc or drum brake on the rear..almost every other year its a guessing game with chevy ..why cant they stay with disc on the rears?...seems chevy has a bit of trouble with brakes..ask anyone if they make it 20k before they must replace front rotors ,,why is that?

@390merc65 Ford loves to overprice factory parts.I found out a price of a shift fork for a ford transfer case,$500.00 for it,dealer part only.One transmission shop I know priced one out.Ford loves covering things up and not doing anything about it.Before the recall on the cruise control,Ford had to buy a couple houses and it was the truck inside the garage which caused the fire in both cases.

@390merc65 Even with the leaking windshields taking out the gem and Ford pulled out a tsb on this.Ford even drilled holes in their frames from the factory to lighten them certain years.Oil pans,Ford's engine oil pans rust out left and right.I rarely see this on a Chevy and Dodge.

@390merc65 Ford made their electronic transmissions a nightmare to diagnose and to fix.I wont touch one for this reason.I know a couple people with Ford that had their windshield resealed and the gem replaced on their Fords.One got rid of theirs,a 2000 F150 and no more Fords for her.Plus ford has crappy coils for the triton engines with the coil on plug ignition system.Have a missfire code,you will put in a coil or two.I never seen a GM with leaky windshields in my life.

@wafrederick explain to me why is it then way back in 73 both ford and chevy redesigned their trucks for the 73 model year,,both had completely new trucks both took the gas tank out from behind the seat in 72 and moved them to the outside, ford put the tank between the frame rails and chevy put it under the cab and if you bought a chevy truck that was a flatbed or other truck that did not use a truck bed the chevy gas tank was exposed and was dangerous and would explode when hit?,,dumb idea

@wafrederick well if the 70's 351/400 are real bad..you better have a talk with my 77 f150 4x4 c/6 with a 351 with over 300k on it ..it keeps going.,,so give me exact reasons why the 360 was so bad?..my old 72 4x4 with a 360 was reliable as hell..in fact i still see old fords with those motors in them ..the 360 did not have the power like a 390 or larger fe but they were just as reliable.....the only time i heard a chevy guy bad mouth a 70's cleveland was because they got beat by one

@wafrederick easy fix to put a ford in a model a or newer ford..you simply use a rear sump pan....there is a 46 ford running around town here and he had no problems putting a 460 and c/6 in it ..why is that ?..try putting a big block chevy in a 55 or newer chevy..you have to cut the fire wall out to make room for the dist..but you can put a 460 in 55 ford and dont have this issue ..and just a little note..not all ford v8's had the oil sump up front..no y block is built like that

@wafrederick now dont think i am busting on you..i am just making a point..yes chevy has more easy change over , and are a bit cheaper..but there are alot of parts that change on fords..and you save money with fords if you want to go past 500 c.i..a bbc i think can only go up 496 c.i in a stock block.but you can build a ford bb up 577 c.i on a stock block if i remember correctly .and still use the stock bottom end up too 700 hp were the chevy will puke its bottom end out with that power

@wafrederick ford parts are very easy to get..as easy as any big or small block chevy ...hell you can still order hipo parts for a flathead..and that motor has been out of production since 1953 ,,and yeah they will ask if its reverse rotation on a water pump...you will get questioned about a chevy water pump too,,and some year corvettes had vette only water pumps ..or is it long or short neck???,,but saying getting ford parts is hard is totally and completely wrong

sounds good but a 6-71 blower with too much carb cfm isnt always the way to go..... cam sounds a little mild.... you take a bbc and put 7psi on it and you have basically 2 motors that will run about the same. bbc will out torque it,,, sbc will make a lil more hp. but for what you have mentioned about motor wise,, 800hp is a lil off,, what heads?? valves? cam? etc??
Actually their guessing how much Hp it has from what the engine actually is.. Chevy 400 with a bore of 4.125", and a stroke of 3.75 = 6.57LT Which by its self stock = 250 HP. If this is a 2 bolt main which im sure it is due to the extra HP somewhere around 500 hp.. In some locations the 6/71 supercharger isnt street legal so all depends on what he wants to do an what he really has inside to back that PSI up.. 10 PSI is small so most likely NOT 800 HP.. PERIOD

That cam was setup for the blower and it was verrry crazy.... lots of lift, with slight over overlap, and long duration. Funny thing is when you take the blower off and run it the cam was even more crazy! Barely ran...

@omen351 Ford has zero for interchange and Chevy does.A Chevy guy can get a waterpump real easy,walking out easily out of any auto parts store.Ford on the other hand,asked if reverse flow or not reverse flow.Same with a Ford starter,asked if an auto or manual transmission.The noses on a Ford starter are differant for an auto and manual transmission.Ford does 6 month changes too and this one reason for no interchange.

@390merc65 That is not true.I know about Ford parts,mostly one year interchange and have looked this up in the interchange book,the Hollander.Most transmissions are one year only.302 heads won't fit on a 351.Chevy is differant on this,305 heads do fit on a 350 easily.Ford engines are twice the money to build.Some did find put in a Chevy in a Ford and found out why.The front of the oil pan on a Ford does not clear the front axle since the oil pump is in the front on a Ford.

@390merc65 It is true.For example,an AODE out of a 1998 F150 is is only 1998 only.Ford decided to change the wiring.Looked this up in the hollander.Ford loves doing 6 month changes.Most yards ask for the 8th vin if looking for a 4.6 for the 1997 to 2003 F150s.The 2004 to 2008 3 valve tritons,$700.00 to change plugs and break off requiring a special extraction tool to remove the broken part of the head.Plugs are $25.00 a piece,#7989 Champions which are a one piece

@wafrederick i guess you over looked all the 80's era v6 gm;s like monte carlos were gm would wrap the wire harness all around the v6 then shove it tight against the fire wall but put a 2 foot long fan shroud on .nothing is perfect ,lets talk about alot of the 2,8 and 3,1's the blow up and are a pain in the ass to change ..or for some dumb reason chevy put the brake adjuster up under the wheel cylinder so you could not adjust the rear brakes correctly..now that is some top GM engineering there

@390merc65 You mean rustang?GM's stuff is much easier.You can take any ecm out of any GM and put it in another GM vehicle.Ford,you can't do this and it is done once after it is programed.Plus Ford's electronic transmissions are a huge pita to diagnose and fix.I know a transmission that bangs their head against the wall when fixing one and 90% of vehicles in for transmission problems are fords.Ford has not come out with a proven diesel yet.Most shops see money when a Ford comes for repairs

@390merc65 Ford made their electronic transmissions a nightmare to diagnose and to fix.I wont touch one for this reason.I know a couple people with Ford that had their windshield resealed and the gem replaced on their Fords.One got rid of theirs,a 2000 F150 and no more Fords for her.Plus ford has crappy coils for the triton engines with the coil on plug ignition system.Have a missfire code,you will put in a coil or two.I never seen a GM with leaky windshields in my life.

@wafrederick where are these legendary GM trucks that had that 4 wheels steering?..they advertised the shit out of that for almost a year..then all of a sudden it went away ..and the trailblazer i think it was with the roof that slid back and the tail gate either opened like a door and opened like a hatch?..ford had that tail gate design way back in 66 and the sliding roof was from studebaker ..not really break through technology now was it?..see..gm copys almost everyone

@wafrederick explain to me why is it then way back in 73 both ford and chevy redesigned their trucks for the 73 model year,,both had completely new trucks both took the gas tank out from behind the seat in 72 and moved them to the outside, ford put the tank between the frame rails and chevy put it under the cab and if you bought a chevy truck that was a flatbed or other truck that did not use a truck bed the chevy gas tank was exposed and was dangerous and would explode when hit?,,dumb idea

@wafrederick and if you had a chevy truck with 2 tanks for some dumb reason chevy put each tank on either side so when you went to fill both tanks up you either had to throw the gas hose under the truck to fill the other tank or move your truck around to fill the other tank ..what in the hell was GM thinking with that idea???.and chevy trucks in the 70's and 80's were so cheap you had to buy the rain gutter over the doors on a chevy truck as an option ,,,not that is cheap

@wafrederick well if the 70's 351/400 are real bad..you better have a talk with my 77 f150 4x4 c/6 with a 351 with over 300k on it ..it keeps going.,,so give me exact reasons why the 360 was so bad?..my old 72 4x4 with a 360 was reliable as hell..in fact i still see old fords with those motors in them ..the 360 did not have the power like a 390 or larger fe but they were just as reliable.....the only time i heard a chevy guy bad mouth a 70's cleveland was because they got beat by one

@wafrederick speaking of shops and fixing cars..not to bust your balls.but i cant tell you the chevys i put new cams in on those old 305's over the years..i was glad for the business,,,and business was good..one cam swap bought me my 72 maverick ..you talk about 4.6 being bad..not all of them were,,ford fixed that plug problem..you did not mention the older 5.3 chevys with noisy motors and piston slap though,,, why only point the finger at ford?

@wafrederick easy fix to put a ford in a model a or newer ford..you simply use a rear sump pan....there is a 46 ford running around town here and he had no problems putting a 460 and c/6 in it ..why is that ?..try putting a big block chevy in a 55 or newer chevy..you have to cut the fire wall out to make room for the dist..but you can put a 460 in 55 ford and dont have this issue ..and just a little note..not all ford v8's had the oil sump up front..no y block is built like that

@wafrederick now dont think i am busting on you..i am just making a point..yes chevy has more easy change over , and are a bit cheaper..but there are alot of parts that change on fords..and you save money with fords if you want to go past 500 c.i..a bbc i think can only go up 496 c.i in a stock block.but you can build a ford bb up 577 c.i on a stock block if i remember correctly .and still use the stock bottom end up too 700 hp were the chevy will puke its bottom end out with that power

@wafrederick ford seems to have alot of change over parts..hell even chevy guys use a ford 9 incher or mustang 2 front ends or crown vic front ends on all kinds of non ford cars..i will bet there are more ford 9's in other vehicles then there are chevy motors in fords ..chevy guys take alot of ford parts to put on a non ford vehicle..but how many times do you see a diehard ford guy use any GM parts?..that doesnt happen ..ford guys are more truer to their brand then chevy guys are to chevy's

@wafrederick at least you do not have to shim a ford starter like a chevy starter ..GM was shim happy..they used them on starters , doors..fender's , front ends ...why is that ?..cant they engineer parts to fit correctly on their own vehicles?..ford doesnt seem to have that trouble..at least ford engineered their parts to easily adjusted ,,then to have to add or take away shims to make something fit correctly

@wafrederick ford parts are very easy to get..as easy as any big or small block chevy ...hell you can still order hipo parts for a flathead..and that motor has been out of production since 1953 ,,and yeah they will ask if its reverse rotation on a water pump...you will get questioned about a chevy water pump too,,and some year corvettes had vette only water pumps ..or is it long or short neck???,,but saying getting ford parts is hard is totally and completely wrong

sounds good but a 6-71 blower with too much carb cfm isnt always the way to go..... cam sounds a little mild.... you take a bbc and put 7psi on it and you have basically 2 motors that will run about the same. bbc will out torque it,,, sbc will make a lil more hp. but for what you have mentioned about motor wise,, 800hp is a lil off,, what heads?? valves? cam? etc??

Actually their guessing how much Hp it has from what the engine actually is.. Chevy 400 with a bore of 4.125", and a stroke of 3.75 = 6.57LT Which by its self stock = 250 HP. If this is a 2 bolt main which im sure it is due to the extra HP somewhere around 500 hp.. In some locations the 6/71 supercharger isnt street legal so all depends on what he wants to do an what he really has inside to back that PSI up.. 10 PSI is small so most likely NOT 800 HP.. PERIOD

There is no way to tell HP levels by the sounds, I can make a stock 350 with 180 hp sounds like a race car But the new camaro with 422 hp sounds quieter than the 180 hp 350 with full exhaust, people, stop trying to sound like you know what you are talking about, your only making a fool of yourself

I love the 377s. Im planning a 377 (400sbc bored 030 with a forged 3.48 stroke crank for those who dont know), 6" rods and -5cc flat top pistons, with a 64cc aluminum dart pro 1 head it will be right at 10.9 to one, im planning natural aspiration and a single 750 though, but man i love the way your old mans trucks looking. No way engine builder 30 record holder NJBA 3 years in a ford and a Chevy I prefer FORD & Ford Has a 427 Interceptor Motor as well , 427 have horse powwer no RPM you need a Small Block for RPM Nascar 700 H.P. 10.5 RPM all day 427 it's a ok motor but always in the shop, ever race tearm down and rebuild it, like Ddge Heimi 426 C.I. 425 H.P. red Ram Dodge even more push rod motors are old school, OHC way to go 2008 Multiport, look Zo6 corvett small block verk quick and will smoke your 427

That cam was setup for the blower and it was verrry crazy.... lots of lift, with slight over overlap, and long duration. Funny thing is when you take the blower off and run it the cam was even more crazy! Barely ran...
