Also, I'd recommend reading Legend of the Twilight alongside watching it, if you can find the manga that is; Kite and Black Rose appear in it and they seem to explain things a little better. I think the relationship betweenTsukasa and Subaru is more so than anything else a representation of human love. In fact that I think is the message of the series. But especially for Tsukasa, in the little clips that we see Tsukasaa was very obviously abused & neglected in reality. People who are abused & neglected have a very hard time learning to trust others but sometimes all it takes is just one person to care. Sex unimportant.

Yeah, it's strange. Helba actually "wipes the field" of the data, so that evil robot is erased (I assume that all of the characters were simply forced to log out). Then Tsukasa is freed and is able to return to the real world.

It's not about being lesbian or straight or anything else. Tsukasa and Subaru just love each other. As Subaru herself says in episode 24, it doesn't matter to her whether Tsukasa is a girl or a boy.
