This is the kind of uplifting music that kept my parents going during the war. I've started my own 40's collection that I play to just keep my spirits going. A toast to the great Glenn Miller Orchestra, and all the rest of the big band leaders that made listening a joy.
THE CBS RADIO MYSTERY THEATRE BROUGHT ME HERE! Around the early 80s they had an episode titled "Pie in the sky". The play had a retired accountant happily recounting his younger years with his wife, recalling how a mysterious (pipe?)-smoking man encouraged him to invest in something that would make him a "trillionaire". Long story short: he didn't, and despite the success of the business he was glad riches didn't screw up his life; an instrumental version of this song played in the show.
The bitter cynic inside of me must give thanks to all those positive, forward-moving individuals of the past who didn't let the overwhelming despair of the Great Depression and WW2 blacken their hearts and souls. I'm sure that this gem as well as Vera Lynn's "We'll Meet Again" kept many a listener from falling into abyss. Next time I have a pint, I will salute these greats, and I hope you do the same.
@benikage666 hey man, it doesn't matter how you came across the music! I only heard it because of family guy too, and i'm into this genre because of Fallout 3. Just kick back and enjoy the tunes. Peace
It's all about the way they coped with the miserable hands those people were dealt. Their cheer and will to survive comes through. That's why this music is great in any era.
@SomewhatDisturbed95 You're the kind of faggot that's born in 1995 and thinks their opinion has any affect on anything. Hate to break it to you little girl, but nobody gives a fuck.
You wish you were alive during this era? No disrespect, but id much prefer this music to be relevent today rather than be apart of the era it was generated from. Those were horrible times for alot of people.
Fantastic music, awesome musicians and great singers! I don't know why, but this awesome music makes me think of WW2 and the stuff the allies soldiers were listening to, during the hard time they spent in the European cold winter,....
