  • peter lok gay in that dance at 0:17

  • First example of tapping in rock music?

  • Peter is soo hot back then! X3

  • Nursery Cryme turned 40 on 12 Nov. 2011! Happey Birthday!

  • Always puts a smile on my face when I think how old these guys were when they made this magic,19 to 20 when Trespass came out and 23 to 24 when they recorded The Lamb. AMAZING!!

  • Steve Hackett was tapping with the pick,he used the technique long before Van Halen...do research of early Genesis Albums

  • Waste no time!

    They are approaching.

Hurry now, we must protect ourselves and find some shelter

    Strike by night!

    They are defenceless.

They all need the sun to photosensitize their venom.

  • Great powerful percussion and guitar....Peter amazes!!

  • lol Peter Gabriel reminds me Mick Jagger in this video.

  • @cavc94 peter gabriel or mick jagger are two of the best showman in history

  • this era of genesis put the ROCK in progrock! name another band where the front man was as fearless/BADASS as peter ( okay, robert plant & yes, i consider LZ to be the apotheosis of progrock, sue me ) & then you have tony/steve/mike/phil who could go from pindrop hearing softness, volumewise to megalith metal chordage & wrap it up with a wink to bach/beethoven/mozart and then go back the pub to have a few pints...

  • human bodies soon will know our anger?

the actual plant is amazingly prolific & quite dangerous!!!!

    Peter is brialliant!!!!!

  • oh, Peter, quant'eri secco!

  • too beautiful...

  • The Hogweed has come to my town too in Ontario. Its in all the papers. Someone is throwing seeds all over the outskirts of the city and its spreading all over. You CANT outrun it!

  • amazing music - no one does this stuff anymore - now its just accountants measuring chord sequences in units of profit. A sad end to the music 'industry' as it eats itself - much like the giant hogweed in fact!

  • Love Peters little dancing and expression in this song. Genesis is my all time favourite band

  • Yup, never seeing Gabriel with Genesis is one of my great regrets. Brilliant performer and one of my favourite singers of all time. The final section of Supper's Ready never fails to impress me.

  • I'm so f----ing grateful that I was around when this was recorded.

  • @freethoughtmusic I was too young then to be aware of it, but I'm f---ing grateful that IT'S still around!

  • @freethoughtmusic really?! lucky! im only 12! my mom got me hooked me on Genesis & Peter Gabrial. she was like sixteen when she first saw them in concert

  • @sasukexstaice13 Hey, carry the Torch. Rock needs you. Someone has to re-ignite it. You might want to check out King Crimson, Yes, Rush, and Gentle Giant (the'll take some getting used to but give them a shot). Rock on.

  • peter was veeeeery affeminate, wasn't he?

  • Dang I regret never seeing Peter Gabriel with Genesis, he is a trip. I only saw Steve Hackett once, and that was with GTR. Genesis, third favorite band after YES then ELP.

  • Now the Giant Hogweed is invading North America!!!!!

  • Ten years later Gabriel's singing Shock The Monkey.

  • Ehm, the Giant Hogweed (Heracleum Mantegazziani) exist and is a toxic invasive plant, no further meanings are credible (even communism or similar stuff)... Search in Wikipedia (english) "Giant Hogweed"

  • We all know what happened: communisme strangled peopel to death until it died for it was empty. Now the hypocrite european caviar and porsche-socilasm must go!

  • Communism is gone but the Giant Hogweed marches on.

"They all need the the sun to photo-sensitize their venom!"

  • Awesome!!

  • the communist analogy is a stretch, man. read underkyper's definition. it's an exaggeration of what happened to the real Giant Hogweed. there's no deep meaning; it's a comedy.

  • 3 people prefer Collins' solo albums

  • Excelent!!!!!!greats memories.....

  • GENESIS was simply the best !!

and PETER was the SOUL of GENESIS.

    thx for posting.

greetings to all fans from a berliner

  • Peter Gabrial is cute 1 ♥

  • Genesis "Nursery crime" Is the best!!!!!

  • Now THAT was Genesis.

  • tout simplement fabuleux !!! Thx a million for this divine & precious live stuff !!! :)

  • Shit don't tell me Peter Gabriel was wearing a thong!!!!!

And interesting to see Steve Hackett using a pick whereas he no longer does applying a more fingerstyle approach nowadays...

  • Steve Hackett had some of the most undeniably innovative guitar leads of all time. Hogweed, Firth of Fifth, and The Lamia, Dance on a Volcano, the list goes on and on and on. One of my favorite human beings.

They should have transposed this song down a whole step, Peter's dyin up there!

  • I have LOVED Peter Gabriel ever since I saw The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway in Toronto when I was 15 yrs old....

  • That cameraman slowing standing up behind Tony about 1:55 in freaks me out every time. LOL

  • Tony Banks! FTW!

  • the greatest ever video

  • Cuando tenian pelo XD

  • 3 persons don't like giants.... so sad

  • I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but this is quite a well researched song. The Herrachlia-manti-gaziani is a hogweed first discovered in along the river banks and canals in Russia.

Many people who have brushed up against it with exposed skin, and received a very nasty sting, equal to the common wasp.

This isn't just a song, it's a dramatised story of it's travel to our shores by the 19th Century Victorian explorers. Our warmer temps, it spread like wildfire. Brilliant!

  • Whoever disliked this song and video....i dislike you.

  • FUCKING AWESOME!!!! THIS IS GENUINE HARD PROG!!!

  • THIS IS ; "HOG" {HEAVY METAL PROG} THE 1ST?!! JUST AMAZING!

  • Each time the hogweed rears its head, the council and press get into bed

they fondle and feign for hours until the thing is dead

but then again up pops its head

and soon the bedfellows start to carp instead

quite a charade to see l think you feel, l said

  • All homo-erotic aspersions accepted here; but dyano what: he was pretending to be the hogweed (and raising the lust of collins at the same time?). Tell me, would you be turned on by a gyrating androgen?? I have to smirk each time l hear this song at local authority poisoning units who feign fear and feel hatred each time the weed shows its grand self.

  • the guitar neck looked longer than the bass neck. whats that marimba thing at 3:10?

i want peter gabriels physique here, hes like four stone...

  • What heavy Hammond and long away fairy tales as England was disaprooving !

  • Peter was look a women .... and beuty...

  • @8188ify Yeah he's fucking hot haha

  • Cool spec's Steve!!! And look! Peter's actually smiling!!! Seriously amazing musician's, prog-rock never got any better than this. : )

  • great song! prog is the key to life my friends:) it is such a good sond that peter's androgenie is not notice:) there is nothing wrong with that but not everyone can do it without looking stupid:) and did you like the transatlantic version of this song?

  • Was Peter Gabriel wearing a G-string thong?

  • @helga0618 Ya know...I was wondering that myself. ;)

  • Peter, sweetie, it's a *plant.* YOU CAN OUTRUN IT.

  • @euphrosyne1 This is probably the funniest thing I have ever read on youtube.

  • @euphrosyne1 OMG!!!! You've got me crying with laughter now...WIN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @euphrosyne1 Not when you have "acid feet".

  • @euphrosyne1 No it's not. The "Giant Hogweed" is a metaphor for communism. I hope I enlightened you.

  • @euphrosyne1 You cannot outrun the Hogweed. Eventually, we will be taken over — ‘conquered’, if you will — by this master race of giant plants. It’s difficult to tell from this vantage point whether they will consume the captive earth men or merely enslave them. One thing is for certain, there is no stopping them; the plants will soon be here. And I, for one, welcome our new Hogweed overlords.

    - Kent Brockman

  • For all the gabriel vs collins crap that you see on every genesis youtube clip's comments, I really like the warm looks peter gabriel obviously gives phil collins whilst he's singing. Bands have tight little friendships in them and that's one right there.

  • Hot Hot Hot Hot Hotteeee gosh. 5:42

  • It's better than a hearhtrob attracting teenyboppers

  • Eu daria pro Peter sem pensar, no entanto ele ficou bem melhor poucos anos depois... eu prefiro ele maquiado.

Ah sim, a música é muito foda, esse album é excelente! Bom vídeo!

  • Why does petergabriel has 2 microphones?

  • @FerroPiano Ian Anderson had to microphones too. Why? One for the voice and one for the flute.

  • @PaulThe123 you see the two and sometimes three microphone setup a lot in older concert footage i think it has to do with p.a. and stage monitors

  • 2:54 i love

  • he is so hot!!!!!!!!!! peter gabrial

  • Remember when Phil played drums and liked it? Sweet.

  • Effectivement c'est stteeve Hackett qui a inventer le taping ? deception aux fan de Van Hallen !

  • Effectivement c'est stteeve Hackett qui a inventer le taping ?

  • 4:52 is a great jam, Heard it sounded Sabbath like.

  • i GUESS IT'S AN HAMMOND B2

  • Its used the Hammond Organ its same than Pink Floyd`s keyboardist Rick Wright...

  • what strument used tony banks?

  • i bet peter gabriel could shit a nappy in style when he was a baby.... a true class performer then and now

  • great but the jager stuff is a little hard to watch

  • Tv studios had the worst lighting back then, and some bad miking, too. Great video!

  • Love all the Hiwatt cabinets scattered about.

  • mrgz4u your such a jack ass i dont care about your problems so if you have something bad to say dont say it at all

  • This song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of tackling evil vegetation. That is my job & although I have never encountered Giant Hogweed there is a similar plant with the photoreactive poison Peter describes so accurately. I'd be surprised if these guys didn't have some sort of conservation background.

  • @bluelightcycle In my case it's Giant Crabgrass lives!!!!

  • Peter is beautiful in this video.

  • Tony banks is actually my favorite genesis member!!!

Just listen to his synt performance!!!

Long ago in the Russian hills..... Oh its so good!!!!

I would like to have a pint with Peter(;->)

Anyone who would like to introduce me???(;->)

  • simply unreal... no one will reach them...

  • For delphil of the EMB!!

  • This is so cool. My friend Tony and I will be recording a Genesis tribute band in LA.

on may 15th. Wont that be fun. I'm looking forward to it.

  • Giant Hogweed Lives, and we call it kudzu in the U.S. it's really bad in some places. Really bad!

  • Not enough organ in songs today. Love it.

  • Interesting pre van halen tapping going on in the beginning

  • Fandamtastic!!

  • @metalrock90 ...its his shirt caght in his pants

  • such fantastic cadence in his vocals!! what a collaboration: ReGenesis forever!

  • @ 5:40 hes like OH SHIT!

    What a trippy guy,=D

  • things that were done in the studio were terribly difficult to replicate live back then...given the technology of the time this is an incredible effort to perform a complex composition ....dig it .........

  • Excellent point. If a band tried to recreate half of this type of song live today, odds are they would rely on a backing track or midi.

  • @TheMrbreeze55

See the other live video they did it perfectly on stage , been to yes, dream theater rush concert etc , they were pro

  • @TheMrbreeze55 Couldn't agree more

  • If you think that it's pretentious, you've been taken for a ride.

  • It is Rael!

  • che voce Peter! Che intuizioni musicali! Grandi i Genesis!!!

  • I'm writing that sheet music now

  • Look at that bassline Rutherford is playing around 2:40. Insanity.

    This is real music.

  • ¡Qué volaos estos carajitos, qué bellos! ¿Qué edad tenían?

Hacer esa música tan compleja y bella a esa corta edad es muestra de GENIALIDAD!

  • troppo bella sta conzone!!!!

  • Thought i was the only perv to notice the thong. Worn my dvd out checking. Cheers Peter xx

  • OH MY GOD HE WAS WARING A THONG!

  • @progchick1 what DVD is it on?

  • Dvd is Genesis -In the beginning there was Gabriel.Cover has PG wearing silver jumpsuit with small pic wearing flower. 4 tracks from belguim TV 1972.[a la thong]. Shepperton '73. Bataclan France '73. Montreal '73. Bought from Amazon 1 year ago. It cost about a tenner. Hope this helps. Progchick.

  • @progchick1 Thanks.

  • GIANT HOGWEED LIVE!!!

  • Is that a thong peter is wearing when he throws down the mic stand on the floor at the end?

  • Steve Hackett tap the guitar before Eddie Van Hallen !!!!!!

  • @sigit75 You try telling that to an EVH fan, I got a torrent of abuse when I mentioned it lol

  • @sigit75 sweep guitar as well

  • @sigit75 Yes - and with a Hammond playing right along with it. Way ahead of their time.

  • @sigit75 ..Van Hallen declara "En mi niñez vi a un guitarrista hacer algo parecido con la guitarra"en efecto, vio o escucho esta canción,el mismo lo reconoce.

  • @sigit75 Van halen freely admits he stole it from him. As far as I know Steve invented it.

  • PS. The Hogweed lives, baby.

  • Brilliant, thanks for posting! I had all the early albums but back then there wasn't much access to footage like this so it's great to see it now. Thanks again!

  • Steve Hackett looks like Robert Fripp :)

  • The best musicians in the business. As an American I regret to say that only the British could make such integral, aesthetic music. They are better educated in the arts than Americans. Banks/Rutherford could most certainly be called contemporary classical composers, though that sounds oxymoronic. The videos from this session are of superior quality quality for their time. We are very fortunate to be able to watch them whenever we want.

    G E N E S I S . F O R E V E R ! !

  • @MusicStudioTV Ya know, there really DOES seem to be something true about your observation re: the Brits and the integrity of the music. It's almost uncanny how so many UK bands produce music with such outstanding quality of composition. Everything from Genesis to Muse, to the Clash and the Damned. I shake my head in wonder and appreciation! Awesome stuff on the video, too. Makes me think of Dr. Who: "The Seeds of Doom" and the Krynoid!

  • gabriel sure does act feminine like how it walks around in the end there but gosh im sure he got tons of pussy when he was younger....

  • what does banks play that opening riff on because it looks like an electric piano but sounds like a mono synth

  • It's called a Mellotron. Alot of early 70's prog acts used Mellotrons, like Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, etc.

  • the mellotron is a white upright piano shaped keyboard im talking about the small keyboard he has on top of his hammond

  • Hmmm... no, no my friend. Emerson never did it! He refused to use a Mellotron because he felt that they make classical musicians lost their jobs!

You might say King Crimson instead... :-)

  • Ahh yes, my mistake.

  • it is an electric piano, but he and many others (expecially english) keyboarder were using sometimes to play it with a fuzz or distorsion pedal. so it sounded like a synth or even an electric guitar.

  • its a Hofner Pianet.

  • Pure Class

  • Man, Hacketts inventing modern guitar playing and the cameras focused on freakin Banks. What a rip off. Great Video anyways

  • So true! Banks is playing some great stuff though Steve's work insane at the beginning and at 3:18 though to 4:17 and on and on. Hackett is a beast. They are all great players but his work is so interesting.

  • you guys are so right ! these were the best days of genesis, creativity wise. brilliant , brilliant ! this stuff rivals the best composers of all times

  • It's such a shame so few no this group as they were up to Lamb. They were extraordinary in their innovation and quality.

  • Agreed - all of them geniuses. But somewhat underrated in these comments is the tall guy in the orange T-shirt. NOBODY played the bass like that up to that time. Rutherford to me is THE star in this video. - By the way Transatlantic did an incredible cover of this song on their latest album!

  • @fredmozart i like your comment... Mike is a star...
