  • Fantastic. I want to see Sensei Kagawa do Gankaku sometime. He's my role model for training. :)

  • respect for Funakoshi

  • Excellent !

  • 1:32 this yoko geri is keage

  • Great agility and nice yoko geri technique, but the mae geri technique is wrong! You should control the leg after the kick execution and not fall down on it...

  • @Matamune87 dude, mind the distance!

  • @Matamune87 right, the distance is the point, he's doing zenshin mae geri, after the mae geri you can use kisame, gyaku tsuki or a finishing move. If you can notice, he's doing hikiashi properly.

  • @Matamune87 change your mind...

  • beautiful karate

  • Damn... his leg strengh is amazing... to be able to hold a yoko geri at that height like it was a piece of cake...

  • This is yoko geri keage not kekomi right? Kekomi has more hip rotation and chambers towards the chest rather than towards your oponent... He's just holding keage to show off! ;) I have no problem jodan kekomi but keage uses a different muscle set and hip flexibility which I find harder to do stylishly... I have to bend at the waist otherwise my hip tops out... Any helpful tips would be appreciated! ;)

  • @muchosmuertos Lots and lots and lots of practice and stretching.

  • a la shitt...!! esa patada no la hago nika ...XD

  • I train Kyokushin however, I would love to train with Sensi Kagawa, simply astounding technical and teaching ability.

  • OSSU!

  • Japanese Karate Instructors from the JKA 'SHOTOKAN Style' are the BEST in the world, their have mastered the basics as we can see their talent and skill in demonstrating every technique of KARATE-DO. I wish Sensei Kagawa is my neighbor.

  • hey....do u guys even know the strength of Kagawa Shihan........if u dnt....search in the internet........hmph

  • dnt any of u dare to say anything bad about Kagawa Shihan....

  • What's up with his guard?

You fight the way you train. And training/teaching with your arms hanging doesn't look good nor is effective. No matter your dan or your elasticity.

  • @felipefranciosi You have no idea.

  • grandi maestri , grande karate.

A te Carlo Simonetti grande nostro maestro dedico questo filmato.

    Oss.!!

  • That yoko geri would put someone out of their misery for sure.

  • very strong!

  • hahahahahhahahhahahahahahahhahahahahh stupid chinese !

  • how the hell did the gay dude get the brown belt! Just look how he is standing!

  • a man his age? that old man? are you sure you know who kagawa sensei really is?

is a guru of karate! I practice ninjutsu as well as karate and everybody and I mean EVERYONE in both dojos i go to knows kagawa.

  • it not necessarily the art it is the individual that shows great dedication toward learning development. This Sensei is in very good health.

  • respekt!

  • That guy is a fucking monster! :o

  • what? wow! hes balance is amazing, I mean wow thats amazing!

  • was that sarcasm?

  • agree with the posts about relaxedness and balance... fantastic to watch.

what comes to mind: for people with a longer leg-to-torso-ratio than most of the stocky asians, is it even possible to make this technique work? more precisely: during any phase of the kick, his middle/ dan tien/ hara is way in front of his supporting leg's ankle - how can a person with longer legs (or less torso weight) achieve this UNLESS one lays back the torso even more?

  • Shatterprone: the answer is to do some serious work on strengthening your hip flexors and core. The only thing is, when you want to sidekick through a target with power, you *want* a little bit of that lean..

Having strong hip flexors is great for your kicking, but what's being shown in this video is more an impressive display of balance and strength in odd muscle groups than how one should actually throw their side kick.

  • well said, for a man of his age, hes maintained very good balance and strength in his body. especially his lower back..

  • I disagree, to lay back, pulls the power back

  • he's thrusting his hips, not laying back.

  • Excelente demostracion de Kagawa Sensei. Impecable su tecnica de geri. A pesar que no somos el mismo estilo es impresionante ver en accion maestros de este nivel. Oss Sensei.

  • Now that's control and balance !

    Thanks that was amazing !

  • How often do you watch something and feel your mouth drop open........this is one of those times, fantastic, I shall always dream I could be this good.

  • osss

  • Another great thing about Kagawa is how relaxed he is. Some senseis (European ones...) can be a bit wound up and intense...

  • I love that when he says "everybody" and then does yoko geri so easily:)

  • the japanese are the real deal. karate over there's a lifestyle. Haha how many North American seniors can do that?

    Osu!

  • Zero haha. :p

  • 5.000.000 stars

  • 5 stars!

  • To execute that kick that slowly and in control,at that age, with that height, amazing;as amazing as any movie.

  • Kicking into pretty much side splits...hot damn.

  • Nice !!

  • u maybe think am crazy but i love heian shodan kata :D and am balck belt ;)

  • It's the fundament and without a good fundament you can't build a strong house. :)

  • Traditional karate is as good as any martial art.

  • donce... no doubt mate kato sensei best instructor ever

  • SADOSHIGE KATO is the best :P

  • Why aren't there more instructors like this guy! he is actually showing how to apply good techniques.

  • Awesome

  • gosh ... wonderful technique !!!

    Sugoiiiiiiiii !!!

  • i trained with sensei kagawa many time brilliant instructor

  • huge hip opening that sensei kagawa has, i was left with my mouth oppened when i saw that kekomi so damn high.. sensei tanaka also has an huge opening, its amaizing the distance and the way they can do their kicks.

    thanks for posing this video

  • monzelo, you are so right! the man is flexible.

    laserkej, thanks for posting.

  • indeed "hip opening"

but to do that you have to "lift up" the body internally in order to allow the foot to twist outward and stay on the ground with the foot (not standing up on the ball) The position of the foot/feet on the ground determin the possible hip movement.

don't open the foot first, the foot should follow the hipmovement.

    nice vid anyway :D

  • That leg is not actually attached to his body right? Right?? 0.0

    Amazing technique!

  • He appears to be discussing the importance of hip projection in techniques.

  • OMG, to do yoko geri so high, so slow, I didn't think it can be done! Amazing!

  • amazing yoko-geri!

very difficult to do it slow.

  • Awesome Kick!

  • Superb :)
