Great agility and nice yoko geri technique, but the mae geri technique is wrong! You should control the leg after the kick execution and not fall down on it...
@Matamune87 right, the distance is the point, he's doing zenshin mae geri, after the mae geri you can use kisame, gyaku tsuki or a finishing move. If you can notice, he's doing hikiashi properly.
This is yoko geri keage not kekomi right? Kekomi has more hip rotation and chambers towards the chest rather than towards your oponent... He's just holding keage to show off! ;) I have no problem jodan kekomi but keage uses a different muscle set and hip flexibility which I find harder to do stylishly... I have to bend at the waist otherwise my hip tops out... Any helpful tips would be appreciated! ;)
Japanese Karate Instructors from the JKA 'SHOTOKAN Style' are the BEST in the world, their have mastered the basics as we can see their talent and skill in demonstrating every technique of KARATE-DO. I wish Sensei Kagawa is my neighbor.
agree with the posts about relaxedness and balance... fantastic to watch.
what comes to mind: for people with a longer leg-to-torso-ratio than most of the stocky asians, is it even possible to make this technique work? more precisely: during any phase of the kick, his middle/ dan tien/ hara is way in front of his supporting leg's ankle - how can a person with longer legs (or less torso weight) achieve this UNLESS one lays back the torso even more?
Shatterprone: the answer is to do some serious work on strengthening your hip flexors and core. The only thing is, when you want to sidekick through a target with power, you *want* a little bit of that lean..
Having strong hip flexors is great for your kicking, but what's being shown in this video is more an impressive display of balance and strength in odd muscle groups than how one should actually throw their side kick.
Excelente demostracion de Kagawa Sensei. Impecable su tecnica de geri. A pesar que no somos el mismo estilo es impresionante ver en accion maestros de este nivel. Oss Sensei.
How often do you watch something and feel your mouth drop open........this is one of those times, fantastic, I shall always dream I could be this good.
huge hip opening that sensei kagawa has, i was left with my mouth oppened when i saw that kekomi so damn high.. sensei tanaka also has an huge opening, its amaizing the distance and the way they can do their kicks.
but to do that you have to "lift up" the body internally in order to allow the foot to twist outward and stay on the ground with the foot (not standing up on the ball) The position of the foot/feet on the ground determin the possible hip movement.
don't open the foot first, the foot should follow the hipmovement.
Fantastic. I want to see Sensei Kagawa do Gankaku sometime. He's my role model for training. :)

What's up with his guard?
You fight the way you train. And training/teaching with your arms hanging doesn't look good nor is effective. No matter your dan or your elasticity.

well said, for a man of his age, hes maintained very good balance and strength in his body. especially his lower back..

Certain strains of traditional karate are good but they are an incomplete martial art.
Mainly because they dont know their own kata
