I'd go with the Carl Martin Crush Zone, if you can still find them. I believe they went out of production. The Cool Cat Drive (V1/V2 - doesn't matter much) is better for bluesy overdrive.
You definately have an ear for melody. Great tasty playing! I ended up buying both the Danelectro Drive and Transparent OD. Lucky me the music store had both pedals in version 1. They hadn't heard about internet buzz about them being discontinued for copyright issues.
I just came back from a surf shop, of all places, that had a few guitars and a dusty display of the version 1 pedals sitting there. I already own a CO-1, but managed to grab another one AND the Transparent OD for $55!! Couldn't believe my luck.
great playing, I really like the blues sounds. One question, you get a hell of a lot of tonal variety and expression out of your playing dynamics, but I wonder how much of that is down to the pedal itself and how much is down to the amp you are playing through - just wondering how the same riffs would sound with this pedal and a solid state amp? I guess its a cheap pedal, so will appeal to those with limited budgets who maybe can't run to a decent tube all-tube amp.
it's really surprising how nice danelectro pedals are. and at those prizes it's hard to beat. you should check out the video by gearman where he puts a danelectro od up to a fulltone ocd
sort of... overdrive implies a few things. first of all, having a tone imitating or inspired by tube amp overdrive. it is also implied that it will have enough volume to distort a tube amp. a distortion pedal implies that the tone is tube-inspired, but differs from an OD in that it is not meant to supplement amp overdrive, and has enough gain on its own. a fuzz implies the same as the distortion, with the exception that the tone is not imitative of tube dirt. many pedals are mislabeled however.
I have this mothballed. It will sound good when you pick lightly, then, shave your ears off when you wack the strings. The distortion sound is scratchy to my ears. You can offset that with the tone knob but then it's limited to dark sounds although it keeps tempting you to raise the brightness. I play a faded SG/'65 Deluxe.
I replaced it with a Delta Lab TD-1 which I am totally happy with and costs ~$50USD.
I'm sure I would enjoy a demo of the deltalab td-1 from you, rotren.
I know this was from 2 years ago, but I had to comment when I saw you use the same setup as me-SG/65 Deluxe. I have a similar experience w/ mine. I prefer the Transparent OD, but this guy gets a great tone from his Drive, so maybe it just isn't suited to my setup and playing style. It's good and usable, but it just doesn't FEEL as good as I hoped.
cant get enough of this guy .... The TONE!!! just goes to show it's the guitarist not the guitar sounds hot on a $250 tele I cry myself to sleep after listening to this guy cuz he's much better than I. love it
An affordable overdrive!! I may just try one of these. You got a decent amp, nice guitar, and obviously years of playing. Noticed you teach. :) This could add just enough bite to the rhythm channel on my 5150.
Man, I know people get on here and talk about your tone...but, Jesus. Even through the compression of YouTube you sound great. Thanks for the awesome videos!
What is the model?

Hey Robert. Do you think it has enough gain to use it as distortion? I am thinking to sell my Proco rat 2 and buy the two overdrives and the fuzz.
sstavrin 3 years ago
Hmmm, good question. It depends on how much gain you need. It might - you should try it. It's so cheap so why not get one anyway?
rotren 3 years ago
Great Sounds!
Please tell me, CT-1 or CTO-1 which is it?
naosy 3 years ago
I'm pretty sure it is the CO-1 because that has a "drive" option on the right side. The other distortion has a gain option.
