Thank you for filming this with your cell phone when you had the chance. I never heard him say this routine before and it may be the only record of it. Be careful and save this video in a safe place.
Well hell, ol' George made alot of money in a country with a scary pledge. Not only that, this country defeated the Facscists and Nazis so that Carlin could use his freedom to bad-mouth America.
And from all Of Carlin's fans we hope you get fucked up the ass with a flaming metal rod and then bashed over the head repeatedly with a piece of heavy mining equipment. Also let me tell you this small quote from Carlin " I love this country. I love the freedoms we use to have". Think about it dumbass.
You say that like this is the only country where he could say these things. He could use that freedom in a lot of countries. Even most countries that don't even have a formal right to free speech are really less strict on what the citizens can and can't say than we are. If you don't believe me, go on stage in the US and call somebody a 'nigger.' You'll be in court faster than you can say God Bless America. Not that I support racism, but I support a racist asshole's right to express himself.
Its comedy man, and he is funny as hell, if your not in the mood of jokes and such, click on another link and just forget all about it, its not harder then that.
I always feel sick whenever I see people proud of what they are because they never stop to think that they have been programmed since birth to like what they are. They're not aware if they like or dislike what they are. It came automatically for them. I on the other hand managed to break free once I reached the age of reason. Just took one good look around me and I felt like a biter. That I'm only joining the bandwagon for their reasons, not mine.
But that being said, nothing wrong with having sense of connection to your ancestors, and respecting what they have done, but pride must come from within you, not from something you didn't personally have anything to do with.
we are all equal but ppl just want to see differences; don't kill me like you did with jesus, Ghandi, Marin Luther King, John Lennon, Abraham, Kennedy and his brother
I like Carlin, but he's dead wrong. Most accomplishments use the knowledge accumulated over centuries. Taking pride in one's people is the highest form of respect, it's respecting the genetic basis of one's civilization.
Well actually, history isn't linear like that. We're not discovering things, we're rediscovering things. That's why it's called research. Many civilisations before ours knew a whole lot we don't. We're not all that advanced.
Yes, you are correct, but it should not be blind and unearned respect for ones people. It should be earned by what your people actually accomplished over the years. Lets say your ancestors were rapist and cannabols. Are you entitled to respect them just because they came before you, and you are a part of their 'people'?
I saw him do this show last week here in Pittsburgh, PA. From this clip he changed his wording up a little bit, and some of his stuff from this clip wasn't in his show last week. Personally, I thought it was hilarious.
i think i was at this same show...at maryland theatre. gotta tell ya, i was not impressed....and i am a huge carlin fan. in fact, i left feeling very disapointed.
Gay people have gay pride because they have to go through adversity. Growing up they are told to be ashamed of who they are by society, thus lot of gay teens commit suicide. Gay pride is a way of saying, "I am not ashamed of who I am and I am proud of myself for standing here today." Black pride exist for the same reason. But there is no such thing as "white pride" or "straight pride" because being white and straight is being advantaged in this society.
Many people have adversity. When I was in school blacks were pushed into college and whites were pushed out the door. Many heteros commit suicide. There are many gays who achieve success.I treat all people with respect unless they give me reason not to. You're veiled hatred is just another
way to promote discord and to advance your agenda.
great comment/fact about national pledges!!!Here's one: What's the difference between NATIONALISM, FASCISM, & PATRIOTISM? ANSWER, SADLY: NOT ENOUGH!!!
I just missed him when he came through town last year. I'm glad he's trying new material though. He certainly has a lot as it is, but his last couple HBO specials have mostly been revisions of previous bits. And this new material kicks ass.
oh, and the fact about the pledge of alligance - I would love to throw that in, say, Bush's face on national TV :D What if every american where told about that - wouldn't it at least make them THINK?! not saying americans are stupid (Im guessing the provider of this clip is american :)), but still - scary thought to me

cougar08cougar08 4 years ago
Well you're right, in that case. I guess Africans don't have much to be proud of.
hughtub 4 years ago
there is a difference of being proud of your heritage and being arrogant when you yourself have not earned it (no one likes a trust fund baby)
your ancestors may have done some great things or even overcome great disadvantages.....
....what have you done with your life is more the point!
another question: Can I be proud for another race and learn from them and claim them for my own esteem?

It's the same thing with atheists. They overcome somthing that was pounded into their heads when they were young, also in the pledge.

Pride should be reserved for something you achieved - not something that happened by accident at birth - being Irish isn't a skill
Very good point, Carlin is great - thanks for sharing, interesting
