  • I remember when I first saw this video on Top of the Pops in 1969. I think it might have been the first pop song with a video. It was fantastic then and it's still fantastic. Until today never thought to see if the original video was on Youtube and lo here it is. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this seemed so new when I was younger! I was like, a baby or something ! I uses to laugh at the frog an rabbit!

  • I was 12 years old when this song came out - wow how times have changed.

  • I remember disliking Reggie, the cartoon character, because he was a D-Bag to Archie!! Wow! Great memories, though.

  • The voices were Toni wine Don Dante and Jeff berry who the lyrics and help with other band members played the guiltars n bass n drums

  • Didn't know the Monkees had turned down Sugar Sugar??

  • @maryseacole58 Yeah, Davy and Mike hated the Pop trash that was being written for them, and eventually got free of their awful contract so they could make their own music.

  • Thanks for the upload, piece of my childhood, loved this when i was 12. What memories!

  • My son Just thinks this so hokie..I loved it

  • This was a great song. I remember when it came out. Nobody shows the Archies anymore. Who were the voices? I miss these cartoons. The cartoons and music today suck!

  • I always found it amusing that Archie's voice is annoying when he is talking but he has a great singing voice. Weird.

  • hey..i remember the ARCHIES...lol...its great...watching...

ah honey honey...you are my candy girl...aahhaaa...lol..how sweet is this song...oh sweet...lol.

  • wow, this video was on tinypop ages ago.

  • I remember buying the 45 rpm of this song when I was around 11 or 12 years old. it was the first record I bought at K-mart. Ah the memories! I would play it over and over and over!

  • hahahah...really funny :D

  • @kolaidman67 don't know if the only one, just the first one!

  • Southwriter: Jughead is supopsedly playing drums!

khoinguyen2204 : That's Hotdog, the one new thing they added to Archie for the TV cartoon over the comics (besides the idea they had a band--the token non-violent Saturday Morning late-60s swing of things, ie Sabrina and Groovie Ghoolies, Josie and the Pussycats, etc etc, I'm amazed they never had the Scooby-Do bunch go that way...)

  • this song turns any frown upside down .. :)

  • DavidNettleton: Cartoons don't talk back! Don Kirshner was also getting tired of The Monkees. I agree, this song would've been perfect for them and likely their third #1 single.

  • What is Jughead supposed to be playing?

  • Holy kitten in a cup, what is that dog doing over there???

  • First song from a cartoon to make the Pop charts Top 10.

  • @birddogtx the only one?

  • I read the comic books...

I'm only 17, 18 by tomorrow. Damn, I feel young haha

  • @RHTrix Enjoy it. It won't last.

  • Probably, the first AMV (animation music video) in history...

  • What was Betty's last name?I know archie's was andrews, reggie's was mantle, veronica's was lodge, and jughead's was jones.

  • @jaydee624, Betty's last name was Cooper. Rock on Archies! I remember the old good comics unlike the crap they come out with these days!!

  • veronica's jet black hair is way hotter than any blonde

  • I don't remember anything

  • I remember shooting up to this song :) I kid

  • mmm...The Archies

  • SUGAAAR!

  • Archie sounds different from his voice in one of the archie shows i have. o_o

  • Love The Archies and Archies weird mysteries. It's so awesome. Much better than some of the cartoons that are on tv now a days.

  • I read a few hours ago that this success was the first hit coming from a fictional band, win a prize on the charts! is a classic!

    guys won! I loved it!

  • omg i sooo remember this i used to love it when it was on pop party when i was about 5 omg 6 years and i still <3 the song !

  • @luminutty1 I still have my 45 LOL

  • love song and boy kiss to i am a hoty grace ps not jothon

  • Go archies(I'm 13 btw)

  • I can't believe the Doors never got their own Cartoon Series like the Archies even though the Doors will eternally be remembered as the greatest "Bubble Gum" AM Radio Group of the 60's...Dan Nealon

  • Weird...now I think Candy Clark's look in "American Graffiti" is based on Sabrina in this...

  • COOL...have seen the music part of this in various permutations (David Steinberg's comments when it appeared on his show are classic)...but can't remember this one...for all I know i did see it, but fantastic to see it now...5*****

  • LOL Love it!!!!

  • remember at elementry school wkwkwkkw

  • #1 song for 1969...

  • Memories. I use to love watching this cartoon.

  • hey rockerchic, dont feel too bad, I remember this too

  • I remember when this song came out, and they pressed a thin vinyl copy of it on the back of a cereal box -- either Captain Crunch or Sugar Pops I think, but not sure. I cut it out and put it on the turntable just to see if it played, and it did.

  • @mokiach I did the same thing.... I searched all the boxes at the store until i found "Sugar Sugar"..... geez :)

  • @mokiach Awesome. I would have never remembered that without you. It did play.... until you got milk on it.

  • @mokiach A cut out vinyl? O.o

  • Betty and Veronica were the BEST dancers! ;)

  • I don't remember Archie's voice being so annoying when I was little, lol. Thanks for the blast from the past!

My friends and I used to play the Archies when we were in 2nd grade...I was always Veronica. ;)

  • i love the olden day cartoon characters

  • i love this show i used to watch it all the time and i still read the comics

  • Shiiiiiiiiiiitttttttt

  • Steve Haddican - Can you watch the Kissing Booth while I do the Scentsy Fundraiser at Play this weekend? Enjoy the video - hey this is going to be my new ring tone! I will be warming Sugar!

  • Thanks for the song 'n' toon.

  • I belive EQUAL did use this as a jingle, maybe Manallow had some thing to do with it. After all, Ron Dante did co produce his LPs.

  • Cool classic!!Thanx for posting this!!

  • For $2.00, Jughead gave Archie a handjob.

  • I've seen a live action video of this song, filmed outdoors in (I guess) LA or SF, and featuring THE hottest babe in a hight t-shirt dancing. Only saw it once on TV.

  • To answer that davy jones felt it was a kids song for bubblegum band so he n others n network then said No ....let ron dante n jeff barry n toni wine do it also richie adam also did some work n co wrote song....he also did songs n sang on the Bananna splits show

  • great memories of simple times

  • Why Oh Why did the Monkees turn down Sugar Sugar? It was just right for the cadence in Davy Jones' voice. It would have put them right back on top.

  • @davidnettleton very well put, and very true.

  • holy crap!! i remember this episode of the archies!!! uh oh......i'm giving away my age.....oh well.........i love this song!!

  • @rockerchic63 its all good i still collect archie you'll never guess how old i am lol

  • @ninjamonkey721 How old are you?....c'mon!!.....This is my favorite Archies song!!

  • @rockerchic63 i like the song too. this was great cartooning right here. you dont see cartoons like this anymore

  • @rockerchic63 I don't remember the episode but somehow I totally remember Veronica doing that little dance and that goofy dog, so I'm right up there with you age-wise. Who cares! We were kids without computers, ipods, cell phones - we watched TV, read books and played outside - our schools didn't have metal detectors and the worse we saw was a kid get into trouble on an Afterschool Special. I don't mind being my age when I see what kids go through now - it sure ain't the Archies & Sugar Sugar.

  • @msromo

We are defiantly from the same era. I loved watching the Archies, Scooby Doo, and the Partridge Family. My kids love computers, but thank goodness, they love to play outside more. We could play outside from dawn till dusk , and never had to check in with our parents, unless we were eating over at a friends house. That is the only thing that scares me raising kids now. But I would have loved to have been a teenager in the 50's I love the cars, music & clothes of that era.

  • @rockerchic63 IT WAS A PROGRAMME????? omigosh, i was like 5 when i heard this song on the 'top 40 hits' lol... im 13 now,, i just thought it was a song:$?

  • what the heck?! whats a giant toad doing there????
