What a great emotional track by one of the true masters of Motown they just don't make music like this anymore, Amy winehouse recently put the motown style of music back on the map, please check out the stevie wonder & Amy winehouse mash up mix its great- Shame these two amazing vocalist never done an official duet
why this song was never included in any of Stevie's old albums i have no idea. i only found it on the " Looking Back " 3 record set. years later miss queen of soul Aretha Franklin covered that song in the 70s. thanks for posting this one
I never knew this awesome song was co-written and produced by Stevie. Aretha's dramatic version touched my heart for years and I thought it was the only one. But now, since finding out this sentimental song on Stevie's voice, I dont feel the same about Aretha's rendition. Im in love with the lyrics and Stevie has always been one of my all time favorites. thanks 60otaku3 for uploading this song!!
I never knew this was co-written by Stevie. But is does have the Stevie style. Miki Howard sang it later after Aretha, so did Luther.... This is wonderful to find out. My husband Henry loved Stevie, and instilled in me the magic of Stevie.......Love you Henry. Always will.
Stevie is the writer of this song but I like Aretha's version better. And I never thought that I would say I like anyone's version better than any Stevie version of any song. He's still the greatest though.
Stevie made the "male" version of this longing for love. Aretha made the womans version. I think Stevie asked Aretha to redo it because he knew it could be improved.
Just beautiful; this is my favorite "Little Stevie" track from the 1960's (Little Stevie is simply a nod to histeenage exuberance under motown label at this time; he was "re-christened" to Stevie Wonder from Little Stevie Wonder c. 1965.)
This was the 1st version...a lot of people think that Aretha's version was 1st...my Dad co-wrote this...Thanks for posting this version...it's rarely heard...
Sorry to further confuse everyone... I was logged into a different account when I originally responded to 'courageux28' .... however ... this song was written by the team of : Stevie Wonder, Morris Broadnax and Clarence Paul.
Thanks for clearing that up. The source that I'd found didn't even mention Stevie as a writer. I found that very odd. Stevie Wonder, Morris Broadnax and Clarence Paul co-wrote one of the best songs to date.
@fourbabs Stevie Wonder wrote this, as far as i know! On a Tribute to Aretha, Aretha said Stevie called her and said, Ree, i got a song i want you to do, and she did this, and it went big! ;-0)
Well Babs your dad co-wrote one of the worlds finest songs and certainly one of my all time fav's.... It's not clear if your father was Clarence or Morris, I am aware that Clarence left us back in 95, however you must be very proud that this song has touched so many people through the years...
God bless you all and best wishes from London town...
@fourbabs My friend Clarence Paul also co-wrote this. It's the first time I've heard it too. I believe Clarence Paul produced it! Brings back great memories....especially when Clarence introduced me to Stevie - AWESOME!
@TeeBackgroundTracks Why did Aretha stay on stage one night that Stevie called her up and said he had a song for her to record - when he had already recorded it years earlier. Weird. As I understand it, Aretha's version is from 1980, whereas Stevie recorded it in the late 60's.
@EddieAlda Why? Because she was the Queen of Soul - and he and the other writers would get "all" the royalties, a gauranteed hit! I bet those were some exciting times!

@courageux28 ..they actually wrote a couple other songs together: All I do and Hey Love ...to name a few... take a listen to those as well...

Very familiar with those songs. Michael Jackson and Eddie Levert of the Ojays sang background on "All I Do." Of course you already know that.
