It's funny, my school is doing an "anti-bully" campain. They would mainly say that bullies bully from low self esteem. Guess who got their facts wrong....
I don't care whether it's low self-esteem or shame, bullies have no reason to act the way they do. Someone should line some up and shoot them. They cause irreversible, long term damage to other kids and enjoy doing so. Worst part is, they don't feel guilt for what they do.

When I was a kid, I was actually afraid to do things wrong, bc my parents could discipline me, and I couldn't just tell the teacher, and lie about it. Now, however, children do just that.

Hmm... well... some bullies DO have low self-esteem, these bullies can be the most manipulative and attention seeking because they hate the way they look at give into people around them who say they should look a certain way to be popular so they bully others into making them feel this way because they cant do this for themselves and yes, feel shameful they cant be confident and live up to the standards of other people so in some cases again from experience it's true some have low self-esteem.

Yes and no. Some do, some don't. Some bullies get a pure enjoyment out of doing it and have no emotional repercussions in doing so and some do it to distract themselves from real issues. It's all very situational and there's not one reason why bullies, bully.

Bullies generally come from families where they have been abused. It's a behavior learnt home. Of course they have low self-esteem since they project on others their own shame, and shame has a very strong connection with low self-esteem. These people need therapy, just like their victims, because otherwise they create a predisposition. While aggressiveness is not directly connected to low self-esteem, aggressiveness towards people weaker than you is.
@bboybram maybe i read this wrong but saying the feeling you get from being bullied is not "over-rated". Some people DO over-react when they get "bullied" but some are actually living a nightmare. Nowadays bullying isn't just teasing or getting shoved into lockers, there are actual death that occur from bullying and not only self caused ones.
Asking why people act like their lives are miserable is far too general, there are some that their lives are horrible and some to get sympathy.
however, since this is the internet and psychology is one of those social sciences that has a lot of different perspectives and theories I would 'love this sort of stuff' more if you'd include some sources. (Studies, journal papers, etc)
