The music for this movie is beautiful. I love this movie more so now than when I first watched it in 2005. It helps me to understand the conflicts between man and nature. Heath Ledger was such a great actor. On this beautiful, moving movie, but not just. I'll always remember one of his excellent last interpretation, the Joker, on Christopher Nolan's movie... Really miss him, and the man he was, who didn't run after celebrity... Rest his Soul.
the ending should have been better. the best part of this movie is when Jake went to see Ennis after that 20yrs, and the saddest part is when Ennis found out Jake is dead. :'(( but i wonder what was Ennis swearing to Jake at the end of the movie.........
@upzhan i believe that ennis was swearing to jack that he would never again hide who he really is, live a double life, keep secrets. i think he was promising to remain open and honest, so that if he ever found another love, it wouldn't end up the way that theirs turned out, filled with passion, but away from each other far too much, and ultimately unhappy with the other half of their lives that they were stuck with for most of the time...

Jake's character knew that he had a right to happiness. Heath's character tortured himself for all of those years when he should have been with the person that he loved...He obviously did not need anyone's opinions when it came to blocking everyone out mentally.
In the beginning of the movie i was expecting to see how they fell in love instead i see jack messing with ennis in the tent,and that how it started...Then when ennis want to spend time with his kids instead of jack he runs off to mexico to cheat disgusting.He basically see ennis as just a sextoy then~
@chanelprincess16 I got the same thing from Jack. But he was very immature. I think that that was the "hook" for Ennis. Jack was the "piss and vinegar" and Ennis was the grown up. Jack wasn't as needy with his family and Ennis did drag his feet. I doubt if Ennis was surprised at Jack's impatience.
@funnyflyingdutchgirl At first, I felt very sad until a day or so later when it dawned on me that there are so many instances in life when maybe it would be better that we be glad that things happen and not that they are over if that makes sense. Obviously, Ledger's character was afraid of so many things that he would not have experienced such a loving relationship.

Heath Ledger was such a great actor. On this beautiful, moving movie, but not just. I'll always remember one of his excellent last interpretation, the Joker, on Christopher Nolan's movie... Really miss him, and the man he was, who didn't run after celebrity... Rest his Soul.

@upzhan i believe that ennis was swearing to jack that he would never again hide who he really is, live a double life, keep secrets. i think he was promising to remain open and honest, so that if he ever found another love, it wouldn't end up the way that theirs turned out, filled with passion, but away from each other far too much, and ultimately unhappy with the other half of their lives that they were stuck with for most of the time...

I grew up in Lebanon, I still live in Lebanon. All the Arabs (100% Arabs, the halfs are cool) that I have met are close minded and bigoted.

Pakistan is a Muslim country, so being gay is taboo there and considered a sin by most. If you've spent 40 years being convinced that something's wrong, than it's extremely hard for you to be convinced that there's nothing wrong with it.

And homosexuality is not an unnatural behavior. 10 percent of the earth is gay. Whether they hide it or not. And love, no matter who it's between, is always beautiful. Always. In the end when Ennis learned how Jack got killed i think he had a feeling that the story didn't sound right.
