Some help for you: If you don't like your cats behaviour, then you need to change what you do. Instead of giving him the food when he's growling/hissing, try scolding him or not paying attention to him apart from feeding him for a few days. By giving him the food and the stroking, you are telling him that growling and hissing at you is a good thing to do.
First thing - as people here noticed - tight collar (probably). If not, the second and sure thing - how you touch the cat. Each cat hates to be touched on the hind half of the back. And you stroke it with the tips of the fingers. It's pretty annoying. Third thing - the cat was turned on eating regime - some cats (like mine R.E.P.) like to be touched when eating, some not. This cat is the second case.
So if you want to have a better relationship with this "devil", try to be more empathic - when to cat growls and madly meows - don't touch it. When it wants to eat - let it eat. And the most important thing - do not stroke it on the hind of the back with the tips of your fingers. Stroke it slower. Cats hate to be stroked fast. This cat isn't untouchable, it's only nervous... Believe me.
This kitty's collar was not to tight, but I do fear the worst may have happened. This kitty has not been around for a few months now. It is August 2011 at this time. :(
Some ppl are rite he looks like he is abused. His collar looks likes it probably tight on his neck. When he becomes friendlier try to loosen the collar.
@tangogirl100 yup and he will eventually become fond of you. I have a cat who was abused then dropped off at my house and she still bites my family but she never hissed at me and she hates my other cat.
You probably shouldn't touch it, yeah it has a home and all but you never know where it came from. Plus SupaAmi is right, cats tend to over-eat. And that is very unfriendly, what a pussy. lol
lol what an ungrateful little bitch. but you should really stop feeding him. If he has a home he is probably taken care of and fed, no need to give him extra food. Some cats will overeat if they are given too much food and the cat might turn overweight.

This cat probably smells your cats, and doesn't completely trust the situation.
