I just got my first fly rod today and bought some tying supplies. the lady in the shop gave me the supplies for tying woolly bugger and told me it was an easy one to start with i get off work in 2 hours and will be trying this as soon as i get home then headed to the river tomorow to test it out. thanks for posting a verry informitive lesson

Can you use solder in place of the lead?

I suppose you could use it just as long as you can wrap it tightly around the hook shanks and secure it with thread and glue. If the lead/tin wire moves even a little, the fly tends to fall apart. That's why I wrap so much thread over it to lock it in place. Thanks for viewing and thanks for commenting. -Strainer

Nice Wooly Bugger! I wasn't sure at first how I was going to like your brown Maribou and Red Copper Wire bugger, but after you finished I admired the construction, especially tying in athe hackle feather on the forward end and winding the hackle back instead of the typical forward direction, but then using the copper wire to clamp everything down. Neat, clean, very nice presentation. Thanks!

This is the method we use to tie all our Buggers we sell in both our fly shops. It makes for a much more durable fly - and it's pretty easy to tie this way as well. -Thanks for the comment.
