I like both mics for different reasons. To me, the 57 seems to have more midrange presence, which will cut through a mix well. The i5 seems more scooped, which could compliment certain players tone or mixes better. I'd be curious to see a comparison of these two mics used in a mix to see how they sound in context. It's really hard to compare the overall performance based on solo clips.
I'm really glad I went with the Audix lol. The shure is a great mic, but I think its a little un-evolved? What I mean is its the same now as it was a long time ago. The Audix was developed as a "today" mic.
The best I can say about these mics is, the Sm57 sounds like what you expect from a mics before compression and EQ is added. The I5 sounds like it doesn't need as my tweaking in order to go post production.
its close, but the audix has a bit more highs i think and it sounds clearer and idk more "hifi" i guess you could say. just a bit tho. i also favor the e609 over the sm57. either all the the hype is just well, hype, or i just seem to like a bit flatter response than the sm57 outputs.
not to much difference on the clean but the audix is still a flatter more natural sounding mic and really complements any thing, my fav mic for recording. but the shure has it's place for classic rock and what not that add's character to that style of recording.
no eq or anything right?>
