I am an American...I just finished reading 'Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee'. I know of the history written by Americans...I know now the history they wrote is false. I am ashamed to call myself an American...I cannot believe we were more primitive then the Native Americans, but we were...some still are. As the Native Americans would say, my heart is sad and heavy - I do not want to believe, but truth does not lie...how we abandoned treaties, murdered innocent people - Custer was no hero...
This is a good movie and I am excited to see the rest of it. However, it's appalling how few native actors there are (not in this movie, I mean in general). In every single movie about natives made in the past ~ 20 years, you see almost always the same actors! It's really sad to think that acting is not a career option for native people because there are not many native roles in shows...
I am glad HBO made this film. It really has opened my eyes. I feel badly for General Custer and the Seventh Cavalry, but we (they) were in the wrong morally and legally.
