  • "Yesterday, by the paper stand, I felt the power of another religion; the rebels with a cause came out of the sun and spoke the only language they'd been given". Has there ever been a better, more evocative description of the excitement of seeing the Sex Pistols for the first time?

  • Great old album.

  • Cyberpunk wasn`t well received but I bought as soon as it came out. I liked it. Since you and I have been chatting for the past two days while at work all I`ve listened to was Billy Idol and Gen X on my mp3 player. I never had anyone that could understand why he`s so impoortant to me. My wife loves him too. She`s in love with him being good-looking and all. I think when he went solo he just wanted to have a broader audience. Nobody from that punk-era has had success as he has.

  • punk was an attitude then, its a music genre now.

  • Ounk was an attitude then, its a music genre now.

  • Punk before the Sex {istols ruined it.

Long before the sub genres sprung up.

To think, I can remember when Judas Priest and Gen X were considered the same genre.

Anything that wasnt coroporate dorcefed hard rock of disco was considered PUNK!!!!

    How times have changed.

  • Ian Hunter produced this album and it sounds great! I didn't know that he was great producer

  • @squirtkiller These good old punX - Hunter, Bowie, Lou Reed, Ronson etc. - always knew wot's "their" stuff is!

  • Yes. :)

  • One of my all-time favourite albums

  • I just saw Billy Idol perform this at The Palms in Las Vegas. The show was totally off the hook! One of the biggest moments in my life.

  • @kevhar12 your so lucky im 12 and billy is my idol man i wish i could have gone

  • @sallygirl2066 I`ve been a fan of his since I was 12 as well. That was my first time seeing him and I`ll be 40 next month. So I guess I`m very lucky.

  • @kevhar12 yeah you are so lucky i have been a fan since i was 4 and now im 12 but you have known him for a long time hes my inspiration really

  • @sallygirl2066 I know exactly where you`re coming from. He`s larger than life for me. I raised my kids on Billy Idol. The funny thing is I`m African-American so alot of the music I listened to was not accepted in my circle of friends. That never stopped me from being who I was. That is probably why it took so long to see him in concert. I used to have giant Billy Idol posters on my bedroom wall in 84`. My friends just thought I was weird. I`m telling you he`s the best.

  • @kevhar12 too bad i have none of his posters wish i did some of my friends kinda like him but some of them dont so i wish i could see him in concert i have been to a rock concert before actually 2 but none of them billy idol my mother kinda thinks im strange but who cares i like who i like ya know so i dont care if someone says i hate billy i just ignore them now his posters are like 20 bucks and hard to get and he is the best and without him i would have never liked the doors

  • @sallygirl2066 The Doors are great too. I just can`t imagine if I never followed Billy Idol what my life would be like. Probably would be missing my life`s soundtack. I did get a Billy Idol t-shirt at the concert. It`s like when he was about in his late 20`s. My wife bought some Billy Idol underwear at the concert. It had his "Eyes Without A Face" on the back". Billy`s eyes. We had a great time.

  • @kevhar12 haha really looks that young yeah saw the underwear very funny but cool also yeah i love the doors i know a bunch of songs also did you know his songs were on the movie BIG and NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. number 4 very good movies also i looked on amazon and his posters are like 26 bucks alot of money for a poster i think but he is special like elvis i guess hehe i just think you should feel greatful that you went to a billy concert cause he never come around where i live much i wish he did

  • @sallygirl2066 Yeah, I love the song "Fatal Charm" from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. You are absolutely right about Billy Idol being special like Elvis. That`s how I`ve always felt. Alot of people focus too much on his image and not enough on his music. He`s such a versatile artist, which is why I love him. The t`shirt I bought cost 40 bucks but it was worth it. I used to live in Baltimore fo 32 years and he did come in 1990 but I didn`t go. I`m glad I live in Vegas now.

  • @kevhar12 yeah everone focuses on his image more than his music he deserves more credit i think he is an awesome songwriter singer and guitarist really hes the best to me and if you listen to elvis songs it kinda the same thing billy does i was like wow really strange also what i dont understand is why he changed his music after gen x cause you can tell theres a difference in the music he did with them and by himself he changed from punk to new wave but why because it was popular ?

  • @sallygirl2066 I`ve always noticed that Billy Idol was like a modern-day Elvis. The reason why I like Billy Idol`s solo self-titled debut album is because of how he distinguished himself from Gen X. True, new-wave was popular at the time but if you really listen to the self titled album it`s where he starts to show how versatile of a singer-songwriter he is. Songs like "Nobody`s Business", "Love Calling' "Hot in The City" "Hole In The Wall" all display who Billy Idol is not Gen X.

  • @kevhar12 those all were from his 1 album nobodys business wasnt really wow to me but the others were also i actually loved the fact he changed his image after he made the cyberpunk album really good very techno and i really wasnt that impressed with the dreads i do love his songs i even cover the songs when im bored record them on my phone haha but i just wondering why he changed from punk to new wave cause the rest of the band ended up in punk bands but why did he change

  • This was when Gen X could do no wrong...proved that punks could do tunes longer than 2 or 3 minutes and still be punk, though Idol blew his credibility a couple years later when he went mainstream rock and conned himself into believing he was still punk just by calling himself punk...but those first two Generation X albums can't be beat...

  • cool songs IDOL&JAMES
