Great video for people starting the hobby, every time I meet someone new or interested in the hobby I have to tell them so much, but now I will be able to post them your video link as there is so much to say and learn. very good video for staying safe, thank you Ray nice job, and happy flying, Ivan.
Thank you for the insights. I'm exactly at this stage and have the exact same issues you brought up, like surrounding crowds that don't comprehend how complex this thing is to fly, want to know where I got it, price etc while I'm frustrated at how I can't even get this off the ground without crashing it 5 seconds afterwards. Can't wait to try the lazy man's turn tomorrow.
Great job with the video if you are not a rc instructor at your local club then you sure should be . G. W flight Instructor Sundayflyers MD. I Hope viewers listen to your many Cautions ,( THEY ARE ALL TURE !!!!! ) again Nice job G.W.
This is a very good lesson and a good video.i have started with a solo pro and last week i bought a blade 120sr.i learned to fly my solo pro by hovering in a small bedroom.
with the blade 120 sr i start the same way and when i fly it good i am thinking about making the step to a cp heli.
i think its very good that you tell about how dangerous helicopters (read the pilots)can be!
You are awesome, great vid. It should be shown in every hobby shop . I'm new to Heli"s and so far having a great time. I started off with a Blade mcx to get some orientation skills first . Getting the 120sr next. Seen a few vids on it and seems like logical choice, unless you think there is another I should consider. I'm pretty much bored with the mcx after about a week.I ts still fun but not challenging anymore..Thankyou very much for having a great channel..Hope you enjoy your holidays.George
That's straight talkin' Ray. I agree about the 'you must master the nose-in hover first' bul****t that some instructors insist on: in my book, if you can hover tail in, and left/right side, and have flown round the circuit, if you then come face-to-face with the beast, it somehow comes naturally. I think you get the visual twitch when your left command is dipping the heli right and you're on it...just correcting instinctively like in any hover.
thanks Ray, very informative, i just got a 450 size mini titan e325, but i have joined a local heli club, they have a dedicated flying site and insurance.
i also bought phoenix rc sim.. all in all i should be ok...hopefully
Can't recommend picking up a 120SR until you're already used to FP-SR flight; grabbed one myself to learn on, and they're in the dead zone. Too big to fly indoors when you're just learning, but gets carried off by wind way too easy when you're just learning too.
Since most people don't have a gym handy to practice in, would go with a Blade mSR instead, and just practice a LOT in the still air inside the house; just turn on the A/C if you want to try flying with some scale-wind.
Great advice! Everything you say is soooo true. I have been flying for 6 months and have moved from a fixed pitch to a blade 450. It is GREAT to fly but your advice should come standard IN EVERY BOX! I have learned most from You Tube videos. Thanks for a GREAT ONE.
Thanks for the video.I bought an indoor and can fly it quite well so I wanted to go bigger.I bought the razor 450 . I probably should have stuck with a fixed pitch at first for outdoors. When I first got my450 I didn't realize that one servo didn't work and upon lift-off I crashed it. I bent the flybar, bent the tail boom and feathering shaft..when I spin it up it wants to spin in one direction. If I try to rudder it back it goes violently in the other direction. any suggestions
@edelicus get yourself a eflite 120 sr to learn on then buy a trex 450 pro . sounds like your razor has a bad gyro . if it came from xheli than it probably is defective.
@edelicus How many times do you say "OK?" in this video? heh. Funny. Sorry for being a smart ass. You do know what your talking about. The safety issue......kids are gonna do dumb things. No way to avoid all those accidents for everyone. But good tips! And have fun this christmas.
my hobby shop said I do not need to lube?.I did fell like a god when I learned to fly nose in with my blade 120 sr but I can not do it with my t-rex why? I will ask my teacher about the lazy man turn
You're comment about flying "alone" to eliminate distraction and for safety of others is an absolute bible scripture in my opinion. However, I've learned that for some people that price is too high. It's silly, but some newbie/sports pilot "cannot fly alone". It's being with friends or nothing. So, showing off and crashing for the entertainment of non-pilot friends is a given for these people. I hope they have learned to crash safe.
Great advice for everyone that cannot be repeated enough. I especially agree with you pointing out that we should learn flying in 3 zones. In front, left side and right side. I learned about the 3 zones the hard way. I can do a maneuver directly in front of me, but when it was on my side it felt very uncomfortable. After that I always invested the time to practice every maneuver in each zone, separately. Keep up the good work.
Great advice and warnings!

If some people think hovering isn't flying, then they'll be better off spending less money and getting a fixed wing aircraft.
