Man, the open lab dbeat looks good, but instead of a big screen they should have used some of the space for larger pads. Those pads are smaller than the MPC 1000 pads. That is ridiculous for the price you have to pay for the unit I would want bigger pads.
openlabs is actually a better product for most musicians. it does seem a bit expensive, because if you get a separate audio interface (rme), controller (yamaha/novation), computer (core i7 daw pc), it will be more powerful and cost a tiny bit more than the dbeat, however, openlabs made the reliability, touchscreen and convenience (portability) feasible.
i would like to see the next openlabs though with a 24bit/192 khz interface (rme) for DVD/video production.
I think it's amazing how Open Labs has taken simple effects that you can do with a DJ mixer, CD player and a computer and put a 3k plus price tag on it. I've been doing this same stuff for years at less cost! I'm not saying that they don't have the bomb product, but what I am saying is that what they are doing, Teddy and Morris, is nothin new and it can be done at a cheeper price. However, if you have the money, buy it! There is nothing like the convenience of havin it all in one 18 pound box!
the track in this video is an Ableton Demo. It's not his. granted, yes he could have done a track of his own. because if he did he probably would have had a midi controller hooked up to it
Interesting but overprice especially with the fire box interface; please get someone better than Teddy Riley to demo your product. That beat was garbage! Are these industry producers buying this stuff or are you giving it to them for free? Can you put a better interface in it like a profile 610?
last keyboard u will ever need.. u can download the fantom sounds the motif sounds the triton sounds.. basically any sounds.. plus u can stay updated with the new vst's that are always coming out. i always said leran your intrument... with this it's the best of both worlds.. new sounds... and familiarity
Open Labs has gone insane. Note that it definitely does not cater to "home" producers. Because we cant afford it! Not OL's fault but it is what it is. Its like being broke wanting a Ferrari.
I don't think he is saying that DBeat is better than the MiKo, just an entirely different instrument altogether. Though the MiKo is portable, DBeat is even smaller and lighter (20 lbs) than the MiKo. Add an external MIDI keyboard and you're still looking at around half the weight of a MiKo. Plus, you can take the DBeat on the airplane with you, it's that small.
Shit looks Crazy!! Endless possibilities, im still tryna figure out how everything would work..and get my head around this new technology, looks dope though...
can you put sonar, reason, logic or protools in the DBeat?

if club owners put this in their clubs, you'll see the cd era go bye bye!!!
Deadmau5 already said that this is the way forward, and at a touch of a button, you can create your own beat, sounds and individualize a set.

i dont understand what the crossfader is for if you're not using turntables
johntemones 2 years ago
This is a digital piece of equipment so the crossfader is just a midi-controller just like any other button/switch/fader/knob on this machine...
SO... it can be assigned to any controllable parameter of the software running on the machine
pietervochten 2 years ago
you can hook up turntables
