most people are wrong. There are two version of this song. The original homo djs version, and a bootleg of a mix trent reznor did later on. Listen to them side by side, the mixes are very different.
This a 1000 homo dj's song that Reznor sung on. Search "FIX Reznor Jourgensen Supernaut extra" on youtube here if you like him enough to watch an interview where he talks about it.
This IS the Trent Reznor version. It can be found with great ease on the Wax Trax Black Box. The version we all know and love is Al (Alain, Alien, Al Quada, Buck Satan, etc, etc) Jourgensen on vocals. End of story.
@Aggiechilds From what I read, Al didn't actually record his own vocals on the Jourgensen version, he just edited Trents vocals to make them sound more like Al's. I could be wrong though, so correct me if I am.
Having lived and breathed Trent Reznor since I was a cute little goth girl in jr. high, I can say with 100% certainty this IS Reznor. I know his voice better than my own face.
1000 Homo DJ's version with Jourgensen singing is better. This version has a screeching sound that some people think is singing ... its especially apparent at 1:28 where he goes "but I don't wanna fly" ... just terrible.
It's a bootleg. I collected NIN bootlegs during the late 90's and there were a bunch of different ones. "Rusty Nails" "Rusty Nails 2" "Children of the Night" "Quake 3 Sound Track" "Purest Feeling" "Demos and Remixes" and thats all I can think of at the moment.
@kutcharaninfan I'm sure there is volume 2 if I recall,I'm not sure if the company who makes the Ultra Rare Tracks series are active/still making continual volumes these days.
@kutcharaninfan Order online (or at your local music store) Ministry "Side Trax", and it's on there. Trent recorded this with Al Jourgensen as part of one of Al's side projects called 1000 Homo DJ's. On Ministry "Side Trax" you'll not only get Trent's vox on "Supernaut", but also included is all of Al's side projects and their releases. Even Al's band PTP, which was a project Al did with Skinny Puppy's Nivek Ogre. Cheers!
@kutcharaninfan I bought it ten years ago at a record store in the hood that mostly sells R&B/RAP music. Not sure if that gives any perspective on how rare it actually is.
@kutcharaninfan I don't think there was anything on the disc that can't be found from youtube or other sources. You can Wiki the contents of the disc and put the tracks together unless you're wanting the actual disk for nostalgic purposes.
@ChildIncomplete no its originally a Black Sabbath song, Al covered it and asked Reznor if he wanted to do the vocals, there is a better version on Ministrys "Greatest Fits" CD
@ChildIncomplete I am absolutely positive that this is 1000 Homo DJs. I had this tape. I was in the Art Institue for music and video biz and my roommate was a dj from New Orleans and was the biggest industrial fan ever to live. This song was a staple in our apartment, being huge fans of Trent, Al and Ozzy alike. Very educational and enightening years for me. Correction- year- lol I didnt graduate, I was too busy being high and uncovering the mysteries of the universe. good times ;)
Supernaut... given that it was done by Black Sabbath originally, and the drug and rock music thing at the beginning, it's obviously a drug thing. There is something called psychonautics (psychonauts) where people use drugs and meditation to explore the mind and have out of body experiences and stuff, so that's probably as a good an explanation for what the song's about as anything.
I remember when the album came out. I was in high school at the time but i didn't know Reznor was supposed to be on it! It was obviouly Al Jourgenson doing the vocals under a different name! But it was because Reznors record label wouldn't let him do any side projects. So Al Jourgenson redid the song with Reznors vocal style! 1000 Homo DJ's did only 2 albums I think! They were songs that didn't make it on The Land of Rape and Honey!
Trent is a fag just like me and I want to suck his cock until he cums pure musical fucking goodness into my mouth. I am a big boy and I will swallow it all... It's really so bad you know once you get past the taste........
@downmachinedown "I am a big boy and I will swallow it all... It's really so bad you know once you get past the taste........" fail hahaha the actual lyrics are "it's really not so bad you know once you get past the taste" :)
@ministrylover Its on a tribute to black sabbath album, nativity in black. Megadeth, Type O negative, ugly kid joe, and a bunch of other awesome bands are on it. I think the artist is listed as 1000 homo DJs, but it is clearly Reznor singing. I bought this CD in 1995 and still have it somewhere buried deep within the depths of my closet. I would trip my balls off and start this song once the dream-like awareness kicked in!
"I remember playing this song while playing a flash game called Dino Run. It's where you play as a dinosaur running away from the dust that killed off all of them dinos. This song was so very fitting." ^w^
have to do a little more research, but you may be incorrect. I am one that has been a NIN/Reznor afficionado since '92- don't own this though(kudos), but have nearly all Halos & some 'nice' early imports as well as bootlegs & "others" containing Trent.
@kirbdog33 I wrecked bad on an R1 back in 2003. I promised my parents I would never ride again. Been there, done that. And my previous comment was just a joke. I don't do drugs. Well...You know what I mean.
@6Ott7 Oi....well my bad, myself I don't do that drug anymore - as for the bike, endoed into a car 03/10 only goin 2nd-3rd, seperated left shoulder A/C for 3rd X(1st 2 not bike). Fork tubes got replaced, clutch hdle, rear left signal & my front fender's missing ~2". We'll hit the century+ mark from time to time. On a VStar 1100, been considering a YZF R-, not repl. in addition to/ multi discipline. Live 2 Ride/Ride 2 Live Peace!
@kirbdog33 Ouch! Well you gotta be carefull and watch out for old people. A 75 year old woman almost took me out of the ball game. And you are not gonna believe this, but my B-Day is 3/10. Be safe.
@hehfilms yeah..after being a fan of nin since the broken EP its almost impossible to mistake these vocals with anyone else other than trent reznor. like you just know..haha
Yeah you can totaly hear Trents vocal on this,i had no idea he did a version of.This is the first time ive heard the Trent version :D thanks for sharing \m/
@ollieroks It's also on the NIN Bootleg:Ultra Rare Trax, which, idk why mostly people bitch about the title instead of listening to the song, everyone knows Nine Inch Nails IS Trent Reznor, but instead they are so worried about the title of this vid so they gotta put their problems in comments =/ i respect those people as a human, but i don't respect their words. And this being the Trent version,ITS THE TRENT VERSION,I wouldn't lie about it.this wasn't directed to you ollieroks btw.
@Withbleedthrewteeth Sorry I meant Ultra Rare Tracks,I was thinking about the Tool bootleg name. And on my last post,I didn't mean to be a jerk or anything,I may have not been here for a couple of months, then coming back to see people complain about the title is ridiculous.Listen to the fucking song dammit,I uploaded it for the sake of all the NIN fans who never heard this, and those who have heard this but couldn't find it,it was never to start up a convo about the video title
@Withbleedthrewteeth People bitch because its titled wrong. If you where a real fan of industrial music, you would understand. Especially when he recorded this song with Ministry and NIN didn't even excist at the time.
Yeah, I've got the Suck/Supernaut Halo 0 single and this isn't it partner. Just an FYI for those actually looking for the real recording. Not trying to come on and be a jerk. :)
Actually both versions of this song have Trent on vocals according to Al Jourgensen. As was mentioned in another post when presented a court case Al just distorted the vocals a bit, it's the exact same vocal track in both versions.
Man that's awesome! I mean, it sounds so similar to the later, alternate version they ended up using for the tribute album. The only difference is I can tell that it's Trent's voice instead of Al Jourgensen.
I read that the reason had something to do with Reznor's record label/contract. Too much 'red tape' so the recording wasn't allowed for distribution with him on it.
You know, I've heard about this for years and I'm only now getting to hear it. Thanks so much man!
@residualbill Yeah,I heard that story as well,it's also rumored Al actually edited Reznor's vocals to sound like he's singing it,but who knows,I may be wrong,I may be right. No my dear friend, thank YOU for helping me get it on youtube! I've tried so many times to upload this, but to no avail it kept getting blocked by WMG.Thanks for all the help man =)
@Withbleedthrewteeth Ah, no problem! Believe me, I was having the same problem for quite a while. It was only by chance that I found the solution. I was still using Facebook at the time and I had joined a 'fuck wmg' group. It was there that I learned about it. I was sceptic at first but he had all these 'thank you' comments for it, so I tried it and here we are.
@Withbleedthrewteeth Hey I heard too it was Trents voice edited and distorted to sound like Al's. I've been listening to these guys since 91, and swear even on the 1000 homo dj's it is Trent. He was with the group, and It is not Al. My take. Its the same vocalist with more distortion.
@willmilano I've just compared both. The first verse sounds like the same vocals distorted more, but the later ones are definitetly different although quite close apart from a couple of bits of phrasing.
I heard the 100 hdj's version first and despite having this version for a while, I never listened closely enough to notice the difference.
After all that though, I do prefer this version now.
@residualbill I HAVE THE NATIVITY IN BLACK ALBUM SO IS IT AL OR TRENT SINGING ON THE TRACK? EITHER WAY I PLAY THAT SONG VERY OFTEN.....COMPLETE WITH STUNNING AIR GUITAR ......:)
On the Nativity in Black album it is Al Jourgensen because Trent wasn't allowed to appear on the album. But, I think his voice can still be heard in the background on that version. Yeah, it's a great song with one of the coolest guitar riffs.
If you haven't heard the original Black Sabbath version, listen to it.
the song is also on the album: obscured by fuckheads!

@AMULET72 ARE YOU YELLING AT ME??? ;P
