He's talking about adult stem cell technology. Embryonic stem cell technology causes cancer and has a high probability of rejection. Adult stem cells are taken from the patient's own body which eliminates chances or rejection and does away with the ethical issues pertaining to destroying embryos. It could potentially be the cure for paralysis, brain damage, COPD, multiple sclerosis, and many more fatal diseases, disorders, and afflictions.
Its the cloning part of the process that makes some people step back to the all process, the problem is that people dont undestrand the diference between cloning a cell, and cloning a real individual. I'm not doubting the usefulness of Adult SCR. But, I'd like you to link me to a reliable source that says SCR can cause cancer. Logically, it just doesn't make sense to me. @limeslush1 Yeh they can cause cysts, and are thought they may be bale to cause cancer, but researchers are aware and do address this. FDA approval is only given when safety is clearly demonstrated, so its not really anything to worry about.

@rrguy900 First of all, they are called iPSCs, which are created by reversing adult skin cells back to it's original embryo-like state. However such cells are not pluripotent. Compairing to embryonic stem cells, it is somewhat limited. I don't think it is for any one individual to suggest which field should be funded or not. The president had already looked at the majority votes from the scientific community, and the decision had been made base on people that are IN the fields.

@rrguy900 First of all, they are called iPSCs, which are created by reversing adult skin cells back to it's original embryo-like state. However such cells are not pluripotent. Compairing to embryonic stem cells, it is somewhat limited. I don't think it is for any one individual to suggest which field should be funded or not. The president had already looked at the majority votes from the scientific community, and the decision had been made base on people that are IN the fields.

By taking skin cells they can create these cells which are very identical to real human emryos. That way, they aren't killing embryos, and they can continue the research and do some good.

The embryos they use for stem cell research don't have brains, heads, limbs, organs, or anything resembling a human being. They are closer to ants than they are to us.
Lots of cartoons about this depict babies in heaven, but we're not killing babies, we're using CELLS.
Besides, it's not like we'd be saving them by not doing the research. The cells we would be using are the ones that are being frozen or thrown out. They never survive and grow into human beings anyway.

also, its only excess embryos from IVF treatment, so theyd be gotten rid of anyway. therefore meaning youd rather an embryo which isnt going to be turned into anything, be thrown away, than cure cancer.

Reality 1: They're developing humans, that's it. They do not carry magic pixie dust to cure all diseases.
Reality 2: Implanting embryonic cells CAUSES cancer(tumors with teeth and hair) because they continue to develop
Reality 3: Funding this research takes funding away from more realistic more promising research and takes $ away from those that can be helped NOW

The potential of saving a person who's already alive, & in incredible discomfort by experimenting on Embryonic cells who haven't developed enough to even have the functional 5 senses (the things that allow you experience reality, or what we like to call 'life') is a trade that should always be taken. For a person who's alive is alive 100%, and the person who is not is niether in discomfort, capable of experiencing discomfort or even alive. If you don't have developed senses, you're not alive!
