  • I always thought "The Who" should have disbanded after Quadrophenia and Townshend should have been a solo artist at that point. The interesting songs on "Who By Numbers" get lost in the bombastic style of The Who and would have been better songs played in a more subdued way by Townshend. The same thing basically for "Who are You".

"Face Dances" should have been a solo album and the best bits of "It's Hard" should have been used by Pete.

  • He is arrogant, in the cocky sort of way. Most people in the 60's were tyring to be something we weren't but thought we should be.

  • He still looks great! Even at 65 or whatever he was in this interview (he's 66 now).

  • pete townshend IS a genius, but he gets a hard rap for being very honest about himself and others' good and bad points.

  • I think it's interesting that each creative leader's got a slight dislike with the band they are associated with: John Lennon with The Beatles, Lou Reed with The Velvet Underground, Frank Zappa with the original Mothers of Invention, Brian Wilson with The Beach Boys, Pete Townshend with The Who, the list goes on...

  • Regarding the posts about Pete being arrogant, I see just the opposite - he is being HONEST. I think when he says he really did not want to be in "this" band, his road experience was horrible, he was talking about the way he really felt "back in the day" when he was able to return home to his family after God knows how many weeks on the road. Anyone who is honest will admit their are times they do their jobs because "they have to". It's a working class attitude.

  • I think Pete is one of those people who's too intelligent for their own good. Seems like he was always concerned with things he couldn't control or just weren't feasible in the real world (Lifehouse).

  • thank you so much for finding and posting this!

  • pete's perplexed

  • pete is a great guitarist and hugely talented at songwriting, but also he can come of a bit depressive and melodramatic thats his downside

  • only 4,165 views.........he was up there with paul and john

  • I feel like hes saying he disliked it cause hes tired of saying how awesome it was. if you look at the performances i dont see how he could be unhappy with it.

  • a WHO roadie once said Pete is a great bunch of guys....says it all. love him!!

  • WE REALLY TRUST IN YOU PETE, NON ESSERE PEDERASTA .

  • this is really great - thanks for sharing

  • Pete the professional complainer. Did he ever have a good time?

  • @thegreenolivo love Pete ,,but he does come across as self obsessed and contradictory and so often down on himself or others,,cheer up pete it aint that bad.

  • fuck me he looks like he's in prison

  • Townshend is such an arrogant jerk. Like The Who, though.

  • @ikemotube

He's very intelligent, and very wise, which can come off of as arrogant. He is NOT arrogant. He's had very little confidence in himself for the bulk of his life.

  • "Is throwing TV sets into hotel swimming pools very important?"

    "Fucking hell, yeas it is!"

  • Stop lieing pete you love it :P

  • I think some of this is tongue in cheek. Pete could have left the band at any time. There were other musicians available to form bands with him. I think he enjoyed performing and writing and made lots of money doing it.
