The 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle did a production of Hair in 2007 I happend to be there on the night of the 40th aniversary of Hair's off bradway premier. The original producer was in the audiance and was quite moved to see his work still being performed. The cast was amazing and I got pulled up on stage to dance at the end.
Watched this in London last night and they were phenomenal. My friends hadnt heard of it and were left breathless at the end when the music stopped and the 20 strong cast sang beautifully in harmony to "Let the sunshine in", as they exited the stage. My sister and i then joined members of the audience on stage to dance with the cast. Unforgettable!
Wow. Very impressive. I never thought of Arizona as a place to see great theatre, but if this is any indication, I'm going to have to check it out next I'm there. This looks like a fantastic production.
Quote waxlaxo: "What the fuck, it has to do with everything. The original off and ON broadway opened in the late 60's."
waxlaxo, You're commenting on the range of my age which is not important and NOT the experience which was life changing!! That's very troubling! If you don't understand what this problem is...then just end it here.
I agree with you completely. Musical theater in general is downgrading the acting and energy and purpose and focusing solely on how pretty everything can sound. They only care about how well the actors sing, and this severely limits the quality of the acting performance in the show. A show like Hair particularly should be about character and driving force, not about the prettiest harmonies, most vibrato and belting possible.
@Zconk Hi, since you did the original show, I want to take my kids to see this play in NY, but I heard it had nudity. Is this the case or have they redone it? Thank you very much.
@joeluis98, I believe that the nude scene is still in the show, however, please know that it is not about standing on stage shaking and showing body parts that none of us possess. There's a statement being made. It is only a scene. If your children are too young and they are sheltered in their upbringing, perhaps you'd want to steer clear of the show. Otherwise, it's a rather liberating experience even in 2010.
The original choreographer is Julie Arenal. It is my understanding that she choreography was used in each production around the world. It made sense and the transition from one scene to the other flowed. I believe that she did not choreograph this production.
!!!! That´s it.!! This is the right Sound and Ghoest of- Hair-from sixties. Other /later/ versions are too pop and soap.

I wish i could agree with you but I did the original show on Broadway & it's lost its drive and purpose, like the movie.

Good voices, not a huge fan of the choreography. It's too still and too together (I think "Hair" is a lot more freeform than this).

This is amazing!!! They sound just as good, if not better than the new revival. Is this just a community theater? It's amazing and very professional.
