  • Am I the only one who noticed the 2 apple buttons at the top? the blue one in center and then the grey one at the far left?

  • Pretty cool, uh?

  • Seeing OSX for the first time and using it on my Ruby iMac was one of those memorable moments in the tech industry. Software has never blown me away quite the same like OSX did when I first touched it in 2001. The only thing that's ever come close was using the iPhone for the first time in 2007, but that still didn't blow me away as much as OSX first did. Truly ahead of it's time.

  • I miss Steve.

  • WHAT AN UGLY DOCK -:P

  • Ah, when u minimize in Lion, it does not play the movie whilst minimizing, and not in the dock either... It did in panther =/

  • This is one of my favourite Apple keynote moments, especially when Steve demonstrates the magnification mode of the dock tile. The audience is genuinely astounded. ^^

OS X was a game changer for sure!

  • R.I.P. Steve Jobs

    We will miss you dearly.

  • Mac OSX 10 was good. You heard that? Linux-Like! Suckas.

    And no one believed me.

By the way, the OS was good. But the hard ware back in the day wasn't.

I used a Mac pre-loaded with this, and it was slow, Lol.

  • RIP Steve...

  • that is one ugly dock!

  • 1:34 yeah Steve, my dock just grew too... Damn it, i love OS X! I'm using Lion as we speak ;) 

  • wait, internet explorer in the doc???

  • @bouchandre It was the default browser in OS9 and OSX until Panther in 2003.

  • Jeez, the dock has come so far.

  • Lol the old dock

  • is that internet explorer????

  • @btilm yes

  • @K1llerEel on a mac? rofl

  • @btilm Yes. Why is that so strange? Microsoft has a version of Office for the Mac. It also has a version of Messenger. Apple have versions of iTunes, Quicktime and Safari for Windows. Apple have a technology called BootCamp which enables you to dual boot your Mac with Windows natively. The two Operating Systems aren't really at war. It's just the pathetic fanboys that are.

  • @PeteAnimation

    I like Tigers! :P

  • God, I'm so glad the dock doesn't still look like that, although I'd like to have that beta too :D

  • No I want that one, no I want that one, no actually I want that one.

  • @PeteAnimation Yeah!

  • "and you notice my dock just grows"

  • @chickenwing986 "I can just play with it all day long" another line he says lol!!

  • "its just magical"

  • when is the mac os 11 release?.....2015?

  • these thing are still a part os today's osx

these things mattered a lot in that time

  • This is precisely why the latest computers turn me off, because they are designed for a 5 year old. I mean, come on... Being a professional user, why do I have to be stuck with mainstream avg-Joe or 5 year old interface??? Not cool!!!

  • MAC OS X FOR EVER <33

  • "the next decade of OS X". Meaning in 2012 we get OS XI.

  • @PatrickLerner i can't wait :DD

  • Он тут полный и молодой

  • Why the hell can't i watch movies in the dock? Im running Snow Leopard For Gods sake!

  • Did he just try to quit Internet Explorer by closing it's window ?? LOL

  • There's no smoke on old dock that I like... Now, if you accidentally drag it outside dock, it will become dust!

  • That slow-mo mode isn't just for a the demo, they kept it in the OS for the past 10 years. Just hold shift while minimizing or bringing back a window

  • i womder why steve has internet explorer on the dock, and not safari

  • @AALLJJNNDDRR safari was developed way later and back then apple and microsoft had agreement about internet explorer being the main browser on macosx. in return microsoft invested a certain amount of cash to save apple from going bankrupt.

  • @regenjo nice, thx for the info!

  • @regenjo You're mostly right, but the 150 million dollar MS investment was not to "save Apple from going bankrupt." Apple had over a billion dollars in cash. It was spun at the time that Microsoft had bought stock in Apple so they had a vested interest in Apple's future. In reality it was a patent dispute settlement (Video for Windows had been found to contain Quicktime code) which may have been much larger than was made public.

  • And this is what I call computer revolution by Apple. This was in 2000 people, remember. Microsoft had Windows 2000 and Windows ME at that time, and compared to this, those where crap!

  • I haven't heard the audience cheer like that in any of the iOS launches...

  • >"it's just magical"

Ah, some things never change :)

  • Whoa! And this was actually 11 years ago! The Windows 7 taskbar now is still ancient compared to this.

  • wow, was the dock released like that?

  • I'm gonna put 128 things in my dock now.

  • wow, the dock sure has evolved

  • hold shift and minimize for slowmo effect

  • @MrBjoey2010 woaaah awesome

  • @MrBjoey2010 Control + Shift for EXTRA slow

  • The best part of OS X was the manify effect of the dock. I still like to show it of to people that never seen it before

  • I just noticed that in this very first iteration of the Dock, there doesn't appear to be any running application indicators (or they are there and I just can't see them.) Kind of interesting to think that Lion will lack them, as well (at least by default), but because of the Resume function.

  • THATS the dock??!

  • @ty2 i so do agree with you, that Jobs is truly a genius, and I'm not an Apple fanboy. Apple haters now need to aware that Jobs' ideas have always been changing the world.

  • quite a casual "boom" from jobs=D

  • "I could just play with it all day long!"

  • Windows sucked since 1.0... Oh wait are they awesome now... NOPE lol

  • @TheRottonapple Spoken like a true Apple fanboy. Shame you can't see past your own ignorance to realize that both Windows and Mac OS X are great operating systems, and accomplish the same goals but in different ways.

And I know you're ignorant because you'd know that the first version of Windows was 1.01, not 1.0.

  • lol internet explorer

  • Mac OS X (10.0) still looks pretty neat!

  • Thats what she said...

    4:16 -4:39

  • @Finnstudios LMAO

  • man this looks so ugly in comparison to Snow Leopard and Windows 7 lol

  • Back then it showed you the contents of the window.

WHY DOESN'T IT DO THAT NOW?!

  • @Technoguy3 It does ;). Try it on a mac.

  • hahaha IE logo!

  • @angelusp777 Yes, Microsoft Internet Explorer for Mac...

  • could pcs do such things back in 2000? I remember only the ugly crappy grey win95-like interface of Win2k...

  • @TommyNagz and it was still more popular than macs.

  • If anyone wants to use slow-mo when opening their minimized windows from their docks, Hold shift while clicking on the minimized window. You can also hold it down while pressing the yellow button on the top. This works with many system effects

  • Same... Fudgeing... Animation...

  • @iTechMacbooks

The Dock was actually introduced 10years earlier in NeXTSTEP. There is a video of Steve Jobs demoing NeXTSTEP on youtube.

  • @iTechMacbooks that's right! :)

  • @iTechMacbooks Not to be rude, but don't you mean ahead?

  • @pyromancer14 no I said Microsoft are 10 years behind

  • @iTechMacbooks

Actually Microsoft uses the taskbar since the first windows version.

Apple only reinvented it by making it amazing and simple or stuff like this.

  • @lumberj23 He didn't say "Windows taskbar", but "Windows 7 taskbar". That "taskbar" which is essentially a ripoff of the Mac OS X dock.

  • @drrobertoboogie97 The Windows 7 task bar is not a ripoff of the Dock in any way. Are both sort of similar when it comes to launching applications? Yes, but that's about where the similarities end.

  • @drygnfyre Let me show you many similarities. Do the icons of the applications show when open in both? Yep. Do you have the option to pin applications to both? Yep. Can you access all apps with both? Yep. Do windows collapse to app icons in both when minimized? Yep. Do you have the option to change the place of both? Yep. And so on.

  • @iTechMacbooks Are you saying that the taskbar came first or that the dock did (this was recorded in 2000)?

  • @iTechMacbooks taskbar is alot like a dock to look like, but it feels and reacts completely different.

  • @iTechMacbooks are you blind, or just an idiot. they look nothing alike. The windows task bar was based after the mac's version.

  • @NikolasTerenceStow you are dumb as fuck for not realising he was being sarcastic

  • @demonstrator56 you know your a fucking asshole

  • @NikolasTerenceStow your a dumbass

  • @iTechMacbooks

Did you mean that it's ten years behind Microsoft? Or were you "addressing" the corporation? In that case, you would insert a comma before the name to indicate that it is being referenced.

  • @iTechMacbooks NO COMMENT -.-

    microsoft is shit

  • it isn't that amazin' :P

  • thats a huge dock....

  • Dang! The dock is humongous! And Internet Explorer logo is so old!

  • 2:03 look at steve. He is really enjoying this. :D

  • LOL, the big OS X Dock, Big OS X dock is the feature of Mac OS X 1.07

  • Its OS X Beta!, Remember, I born in 2003, and not 2000

  • 5:15 He said "Hide it" really GAY!

  • EWWWWWWWW!!!!! snow lepord should have come sooner

  • Cant wait til Sabertooth

  • Besides the look, the Dock hasn't changed one damn thing in 10 years. It's one of the few things they've barely updated. Stacks is about the only thing they've done with it, which was with Leopard 3 years ago.

  • its weird. this is 2010 and we know more about mac now than apple almost like tiger, leopard, snow leopard, jaguar, and panther

  • the doc is very elegant now... :)

  • Badass! really old...but badass.

  • thats not the only thing that grows wen he minomizes a window lol!

  • OMG A FEATURE!!!!!!!! THE WINDOWS GET BIGGER AND SMALLER!! OMG AHHHH WOW I LOVE YOU STEVE JOBS YEAAAAAAAAAAH

  • lol flame wars

  • if leopard was 10.0 that would be cool

  • My dock just grows.........Giggity

  • Bill Gates knew how to make software, but Steve Jobs always knew how to make it work better and make it so easy and beautiful to use that we as consumers actually used it.

Yes, an iPad is a lot like an iPod in the sense that it uses the same OS. However, that is the genius of it. It is so beautiful and easy to use that we have actually started to use tablets in this day and age. Before a tablet was not functional and it did not catch on. Now, a tablet actually makes sense.

    Jobs is a genius.

  • Pedophile spotted at 8:09

  • I remember when the dock BLEW MY MIND!

  • man there are so many 'that's what she said' opportunities in this video

  • I wonder if that guy at the end sucked Steve's dick afterwards

  • i never knew the slow-mo effect was like ten years old now

  • BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

  • Steve Jobs you must be proud of your Ass Ugly Dock

  • Man, I don't remember technology being this antiquated in the year 2000. I mean, it doesn't feel like that long ago, and yet this video proves that it was. I remember the movies and stuff out at that time like yesterday, and I just remember the late 1990s and early 2000s being a lot more modern than this. I mean, good crap...I'm not even 30 yet and I feel old.

  • the slow-mo function, in the "demo mode"... just hold down the shift key... to get the effect

  • the slow-mo function for the "demo mode" ... hold the shift key while minimizing/maximizing a window... :-)

  • I have an eMac with Mac OS 10.3 (Panther)

  • have you heard of a torrent?

  • I didn't the button that he talked about in 6:25 I am in snow Leopard!

  • @MoustafaBaalbaki right click on the app that you want in the dock and press "alt" while holding the right click button. and then in the menu on the dock hit "hide others"

  • @sina7601 ohh now its a bit tricky than that button! why they did that!

  • @MoustafaBaalbaki About changing the way to use it : no idea ! But the functionality has also changed : if you have so many apps open with different windows with old functionality you may see many windows going down suddenly, and they will also take some space in dock , while with new feature you can just hide them all or hide one app with command+h

  • @sina7601 thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

  • lol @ internet explorer on the mac

  • He said this is the foundation for the next decade... so does that mean that we get os 11 now??

  • lol I wanna see whats gonna be MAC OS XI

  • there isnt going to be one, this is the only version of mac os that was successful enough to continue.

  • Wow, The dock has come a long way

  • 2年后winxp出现了

  • Ooh, the dock used to be uuuuugly.

  • @Lockhart2000 It looked so repulsive back then

  • @niceworkmicrosoft That is probably true lol. But hey, as ugly as it was it's still much nicer looking than Windows.

  • @Lockhart2000 Yeah Look at the finder he looks sad

  • @Lockhart2000

    Transparency makes a big difference.

This must of been an internal beta or demo version, the public beta featured a transparent dock.

  • @HappyFoxIsHappy Right you are, Fox.

  • @Lockhart2000

In ten years you will say that the current dock is ugly :)

  • Youd think the Macromedia CEO coulda dressed up a bit

He looks like he's spent the night sleeping rough in the streets, after a hard night on fortified wine

  • lol what if steve jobs showed snow leopard to the people in this video. they'd all crap their pants.

  • @JustinTW995 hahaha no doubt

  • @JustinTW995 Or the iPhone or iPizzle! Or Apple TV!

  • @JustinTW995 My dream :P Take my 27 inch imac back in time, go to this presentation, walk up the stage, say hi to steve, pop in the port and show snow leopard to them :P

  • @JustinTW995 Soon to be Lion!!

  • @JustinTW995 What if Steve Jobs showed Snow Leopard when the Macintosh came out? People would die and Bill Gates would crap his pants!

  • lol single window mode existed in 2000 win7 got that with the name aero shake in 2009... opens your eyes... lol

  • The dock looks allot like Windows 7 !

  • @MilladDagdoni

Yea shows that WIndows 7 copied it :D

  • @MilladDagdoni But the Mac OS X Dock came 10 years before the Windows 7 Dock. So logically MICROSOFT stole from APPLE. AGAIN.

  • LMAO, it only took Windows a decade to steal.

  • haha yea because Microsoft copied it

  • @MilladDagdoni More like the windows 7 looks a lot like the dock...

  • I remember when I first got OS10.0 or whatever. It was so silly now that I look back on it...but at the time it was AMAZING.

  • And now I'm on Snow Leopard.

  • hahaha the first dock was so crude and crappy

  • lol it was

  • 2:18

    LOOK AT THE BOTTLES! XD

  • WOAH. Big dock. xD

  • I shoulda left at '95!!

  • MarjinStevens, it you hold down shift while minimizing a window, it will go in to slow-mo.

    NGC

    Hope I help

  • I wonder which computer bill gates or steve jobs use in their everyday life

final product of apple/ dell/ etc.. or built one ...

  • Next Decade? So OS11 is next year then?

  • the one-window mode reminds me of the new aeroshake on windows 7

  • Pretty cool, h-a-a ?

  • And the Microsoft is a decade behind. I just want to give them a big fat hug and say: "there, there..."

  • poor microssoft... this was 10 years ago, and its still better than windows 7

  • "poor" ? xD

  • they'll be poor soon if they cant fix their OS

  • c'mon, Microsoft doesnt depend on their OS alone, they own 30% (last known value I know) of Apple. So it gives them time to.. well, copy Mac

Shame they disabled the slow mode :D I could also play with it xD

  • Well they still have slow mode... press shift while you do things... :P its cool...

  • Microsoft does not own any of Apple, the did invest $150 million in 1997 but it was non voting shares. Also, slow mode is still active, just press shift for minimizing and other things like Expose.

  • just hold shift and minimize a window.

I'm on Leopard. You're saying its not in SL?

  • @wesscoast it is
