@fogologo100 no, actually it was all very smart, they were playing to their parents too, and who is to say that these children haven't have the this garage sound bite them as so that they will always remember it? I did. Don't underestimate the memory of the child...
The first song I ever heard by New Colony Six was "Roll On" which was very popular in California. Then when I found New Colony Six on YouTube I was amazed at how great they are - and I listened to song after song. Now I listen to their CD in my car every day consistently (and I am 53 years old.) (One of my other favorite groups is Yellow Balloon.)
"I Will Always..." is missing Ronnie Rice's incredible vocals. But still a great job. Thanks for positing and thanks to the NC6 for all the great music. Always been one of my favorites bands.
Kinda was, my friend, but in retrospect, I am so glad we did the show and even more so that this pirate copy wound up all over the place\ - what a hoot! I believe the original kinescope is still available to be seen at Chicago's Museum of Broadcast Communications... And if you are ever in Chicago when we have a gig, you can still see me sing the tune live, now almost 45 years after its initial release!
prolly hard to do, but i wonder if any of the kids from the first clip. which was NOT from the Mike Douglas show BTW, are able to be tracked down and taken to a new concert and dance to this song. on another note, i hope they fired their manager when they showed up at this gig
Correction: The Raiders dressed like the Colony! They both ended up in California at the same hotel when trying to "make it" wayyy back in the early to mid 1960's. But the NC6 already had the colonial garb "stylee" back then. (As possibly did the Raiders) Let's put it this way, the Colony DID NOT dress like Paul Revere - it was their own IDEA.
@bbdowns124 Dickeyboyz knows all this because he is my younger brother and I am the founding member of the New Colony Six - 3rd from the left in the1965 video and center stage today & in the video from 2005!
The Kiddie-A-Go-Go footage is hilarious! I have enjoyed seeing the New Colony Six (and also Ronnie Rice) perform many times over the last 40 (gulp!) years--Ray is very much an entertainer. Thanks!
No, this video was from ONE live performance, audio from a DIFFERENT one. This audio was from a live album. Their camerman did not videotape the live album concert. He did many others, but not this one. Most bands play songs a bit slower when recording, hence things are not matched up too well. I had to keep pausing the video because it was getting ahead of the audio. Wish they'd have videotaped the live concert when they did the live album. Could have been a nice live concert disc.
I was in the 5th grade in '65. That's how we danced! And as you see, it was quite a workout, and fun too!Through the years, especially in high school, & college in the 1970's, I always loved "I will always love you"!Thank you for making this video!
He was not an original member of the band. He joined after the Breakthrough album, replacing Greg Kemp - their keyboard player - and first appeared on the 1967 album Colonization.
Wow! I remember both "Kiddie A Go Go" and TheNew Colony Six from my childhood and the group still sounds awesome today! When are they coming to$ Bensenville? I'd leave work early to see them!
Nice to have and entry by Ray Graffia here. I have all the original albums and think Revelations is one of the greatest soft rock albums ever. It would be nice to see Ronnie Rice with the band again. "I will always think about you" is one of the greatest love songs ever recorded. The 60's was such a beautiful time for me.
Thanks for the accolades; I thought the show at the Warsaw was killer - very glad to see that you enjoyed our set the best. You have no idea how much work went into relearning the garage stuff since it appeals to only a very select crowd (me among them - and it seems you too...) - put those all together just for CS '07! Blessings to you and yours this coming holiday season, Ray, founding member, New Colony Six
Show @ Naperville Ribfest was amazing, had about 10 reunion (38th) there with me - we walked from my house to the show and back in time to a much simpler time. Thanks for the memories - hope you keep playin' those garage tunes - they're timeless
Wow. This is cool (only if you respond) i was thinking about buying one of your records, Treat Her Groovy, and was checking to see if i liked more than the two hit songs and i did, i could never lie to you. I dont know if you were considered a baroque band but just listening to these songs makes me wish i had been in a band then. you guys must've had a blast. Whats this song called?
Song title is "I Lie Awake". The "Treat Her Groovy" CD on Cherry Red includes both of our last two albums, by which time our focus was more on the ballads, so if that is what you like of ours, that would be a good selection. On the other hand, if you like our earlier tunes, the garage genre material, such as "I Lie Awake" - you might favor the Sundazed collection called "At The River's Edge" - your call my friend... Thanks for appreciating our music, regardless of the era/style.
I just got my tax return back, i think ill get em both. Say as long as you're here, what was the deal with all those kids, i mean some of them really couldn't dance at all! (kidding)
I'm sure you guys enjoyed the gig, but i bet you were going "where are the high school girls?"
I think the idea of the show was to try to teach the kids to dance and the cuteness appeal (or stomach nausea in your case) and show popularity came from their efforts. Live version of America's Funniest Home Videos... As to the high school girls, we were hitting up on Pandora and the MILFs... ;o)
One of the bands that I saw locally along with and together with many times - Shadows of Knight / Cryan Shames / Ides of March / TW4 ( who became Styx but IMHO was better as TW4 ) - Kinetic Playground and local high school dances/concerts
Did you realize that The New Colony Six, The Buckinghams & Paul Revere and The Raiders, and Gary Puckett & The Union Gap all had one thing in common ?
Yes, the Kiddie-A-Go-Go was off a record. WGN TV (fimed @ Bozo Circus studio) didn't have the budget to let 'em play live. Other stuff was live, but synched up with a different source video tape. Thanks for posting this! I've always remembered the stuff that the group put out on Mercury Records like "Things I'd Like To Say" and "I Will Always Think About You." Thirteen years ago, Rhino put out their greatest hits collection which encompasses the stuff on Sentar and the other labels they recorded on, I became hooked big time! This was great!
