@JubbaDaTrombone It seems to be a Db7, and the coda is in F. The progression sounds like Bb, Bbm, F, Db7. At least it works when I play those chords along with them!
Sure looks a lot different now. Now he has just about no hair. I've never seen him with a beard, more or less with a full head of hair. As for the ensemble this is quite the all star lineup!
Mr. Blackburn, this is wonderful! I've listened to a few of the recordings Joe Alessi has on his website. It goes to show you how important sight singing is! Now I'm dying to know, who sings what part? I think that Charlie Vernon is ironically, the high tenor. Am I right?
Dodson's Bolero (in a performance I saw back in 1993, I think) was an inspiration. Was this the trombone section that played on the mid-eighties Muti recording of Pini di Roma? You guys seriously rock!
5erdom Alessi in a trombone player with the NY Philharmonic. He is also a total virtuoso on trombone. He is the dude with the beard next to the trumpet player. I love his sound. Check him out playing the excerpt from Bolero it's on You Tube some place.
I well know from personal experience that singing and playing a musical instrument often takes a different kind of breath support...to do both well is amazing! Thanks for the double musical treat!
Ater 34 years in the Philadelphia Orchestra (2008), the years I performed with this quartet were my favorite. We were true ambassadors for the orchestra as we performed voluntarily for fund raising projects such as the Radiothons and various orchestra-related banquets. My biggest regret is that we never had a reunion. Now it is too late as we lost Glenn Dodson Easter weekend of 2007. I hope to post more clips like this very soon!
Fantastic!

I love the chord at 4:14. Anybody know what it is?
JubbaDaTrombone 2 years ago
well, it's essentially an Eb7, but I'm trying to get the progression smoothed out in my own mind.
I'm working my sleepy brain to figger it out, Jubba, but you do some theory homework too, OK? Does the phrase "augmented VI chord" sound familiar?

Lol, I couldn't figure out which one was Alessi until they started playing because of the beard.
