This is extremely lovely playing. Rosenthal also studied with Joseffy, who was a pupil of Moscheles, Tausig, and Liszt. Thus Rosenthal had an incredible pianistic pedigree. Could this be posted once more with a higher volume? Even with earphones, the sound seems very soft.
This pianist had modified the Liszt version heavily, and is playng rather slow, to bring out the hidden beauties that had been sealed in the original Chopin song. I've heard many singers and pianists sing/play this one, and they sounded great. But Rosenthal version allows the very careful audience to communicate with the soul of the melody of the original song. To me, it's almost scary to have such an experience. He is a true medium. Thanks for posting. This is a very valuable recording.
wow. the connection to Chopin who changed piano technique is so exciting. I know his teaching was important to him more so than playiong....chopin that is....
Thanks for uploading this beautiful, historic recording!

Brilliant. I have this recording, and it was hearing it that led me to play the piece myself. Nothing touches Rosenthal's mystical reading of it.

Check also Paderewski's performance of the piece. In my opinion also very beautiful.
