I agree, but if nothing else, it's a good piece of history. A short trip from Akron to Cleveland made in one big leap. LeBron James is the best player to play the game. LeBron is one of the best PG/SG/PF/SF players I've seen play. Even against a smaller team, he could play Center. I guess what I'm trying to say is that The King is better than his Royal Airness.

Defy? Define is the correct word. Bill Russell is the best, big man. Why do you think Championships are about teams/franchises? GreatNBA teams are One or 2 superstars that make average players on their team better. Jordan won rings with Bill Cartwright, Will Perdue, and BJ Armstrong..nobodies. It came from your Lebron/Kobe comparison. Neither are better than MJ was my point whether you were going there or not. BJ and Horace were NOT stars. They became good because defenders left them to guard MJ. Which goes back to my initial point to ComaAlpha which is that rings DO contribute to a superstar's legitimacy. Lebron need not be discussed until he wins rings. To ur B.Russell comment, he is the best big man due to rings. The only team who won a ring without superstars was the 2004 Pistons.

Even if we agree that teams=rings. We still need to define "team" in NBA terms. A quality "team" is at least one superstar and a supporting cast. When two teams make it to the last game of the Finals, it's not a team who decides it. The teams already "teamed" their way to that spot but there can only be one champ. That's where stars come in. Rings come from icing, not cake alone. Icing on the cake is MJ 6 times. Icing was Shaq/Wade combo. Icing is Duncan. Team gets you there, stars finish it.

They wouldn't have made it there without the team? I'm not talking about "making it there". I'm talking about winning it all after you get there. Doesn't matter what gets them there, if two equally good teams make it to the end, only one wins. Whatever team an MJ is on is going to pull it off. Replace your Kobe and Iverson with MJ in those examples and they would've won. I repeat, the only true "no star" team that did it was the 2004 Pistons. I hold a special place for them and them alone.
