From studying the Bible for two years, I am rather curious about who these Assyrians & Babylonians were.

@cleanhomer Iraqi Arab speakers are the decendents of Babylonians and some Assyrians. By the way Assyrians, Sumerians and Babylonians are all Mesopotoomian people and are all related by blood.

@cleanhomer You'll find timelines difficult to correlate but it will also be a different point of view for virtually the same land. I'm personally trying to match the two historical accounts myself and it's not easy.

@cleanhomer, old Babylonians were a mixture of the Semite Akkadians & Sumerians then joined by Amorites, Hamurabi was an Amorite, Neo Babylonians were Chaldeans, Semite ppl lived in Kish & gulf region at time of sumerians, Nebuchadnezzar II who built the hanging Gardens was a Chaldean

Assyrians took power in between the 2 Babylonian periods, 1st empire were semite of Akkadian/Babylonian origin, then got mixed with arrivers from the caucasus, so 2nd & 3rd assyrian Empire were not pure semite

In my opinion everything went wrong after Sargon 'the great' (2400 B.C.). He was the first war monger. It went then from Sargon to Saddam all wrong.

Sumerians are the original people of Iraq, Sumerians from Baghdad to Basra and Kurds in the north.

So official languages of Iraq should be Sumerian and Kurdish, not Arabic, because Iraqi Arabs are really arabized Sumerians, especially the Marsh Arabs.

I think that in the future Iraqi Arabs will switch from arabic to sumerian.
