Most of the commenters here who are addressing the "1 Gbps = 1000 Mbps" are incorrect. 1 Gbps is indeed equal to 1000 Mbps. The memory chips in your computer use binary which uses powers of 2, in which case 1 GB (2^30 bytes) is equal to 1024 MB (2^20 bytes). Bitrate (the Gbps/Mbps we're discussing) is not bound to using powers of 2, so instead they use powers of 10 which is the preferred standard by naming organizations. 1000MBPS is what the speed is refering to if u are confused. You divide that by 8 and that would be the average downloading speed you see on the screen. That is pretty darn fast if you were to download large movie files,etc.

So everyone in Singapore will have access to those speads.. possibly this year or next.. well sometime before 2012 I believe. 1 gigabit is only 128 megabytes so you go at 128 megabytes per second transfer speed not 1 gigabyte. 8 bits = 1 byte. typically bits are used to refer to transfer speed and bytes for just data space. 1 gigabyte per second would be absurd and even 128 megabytes per second seems to be as well (at least for now)
