I fire hand dug clay bricks, not pipes. But the clay looks alot like yours after firing. What Ive found is that a fire pit can cinter or fuse the clay with a red glow heat, but doesn't vitrify or glass the clay unless you get it hotter, orange/yellow glow. I went over time from a fire pit to an actual wood fired kiln to get higher firing temps.
I made a professional looking tobacco pipe. I do not own a kiln. After I let it set out for a certain amount of time, is it safe to assume that once it hardens that it is safe use it to smoke? (The hot flame or tobacco in my pipe may get to hot for it- release possibly some thing harmful?)
@OriginalJosh01 after drying for about 3 weeks ...you can fire them (cook)them in a fire pit...see sawdust kiln video for simple ways to that...i use all natural clays..
I used to make pipes just about like those in my high sohool art class back in the 70s, I was selling them & other wheel thrown, hookahs, bongs etc...( did really good, but I had no over head) Thinking about doing it again but wonder if there is enough market, I'm thinking northern Cal., OR., or WA. Somewhere, where I can medicate, Legally. FREE THE WEED!
Natural American Spirit cigarette tobacco is the best quality tobacco on the market today. it consists of only 100% additive free premium natural tobacco. No processed stems, reconstituted tobacco, expanded tobacco, or chemicals of any kind. It produces a nice smooth flavor!
thanks...i use a screen ...i process the clay...it takes very little work to get ready...drying time is about 2 weeks....not alot of rock matter..some sand ..
