"Oh we're going. We're going and we're gonna to have fun. We're gonna have so much F***ing fun their gonna have to use plastic surgery to wipe the smiles off our @ssholes! I'm on a mission for moose, HOLY S**T!"
One of the best moments in any comedy, EVER. The sudden and drastic use of foul language by a character previously of sound mind(and mouth) is hysterical and ranks right up there with Steve Martin losing it at the airport on his way home for Thanksgiving.
So happy to have found this clip on YouTube. I may need plastic surgery to remove the fucking smile from face. "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, Zip-a-dee-day..." (That's my asshole singing) Thanks for posting this!
Chevy: I'd say you're all fucked in the head. We're 10 hours from the fuckin fun park and you wanna bail out! Lemme tell you something. This is no longer a vacation;it's a quest A quest for fun!I'm gonna have fun, and you're gonna have fun. We're gonna have so much fuckin' fun,we'll need plastic surgery to remove our goddamn smiles! We'll be whistlin ZippityDooDah outta our assholes! Holy shit."
Audrey is the glue that makes this whole movie enjoyable. In normal Hollywood CRAP they would make the kids act like they're completely unhappy about being on a trip with their parents and treating them with disrespect the whole time. Audrey on the other hand has a look of being genuinly entertained by her family and is having fun living in the moment. Do ya'll see what I'm talking about? Well?.......Do ya? Hu? Hu? Hu?
This was a moment in time when the acting was truly talented and the comedy was genuine. We've all been in that situation (at least have) where the family goes on vacation and the father snaps. You can literally pinpoint the moment his character snaps like a twig, down to the second. too many movies of today rely on cheap sex/toilet humour to get cheap laughs and when the writers don't think the audience will laugh, they make the actors forcefully laugh so taht we do. It's stupid and cheap.
parks closed moose outfront should of told you hilarious we love you chevy the funniest american film ever and love holiday road hysterical love junysawrus

@mjcamck71 I play call of duty and it's entertaining and fun I occasionally watch south park but I don't suddenly have the urge to kill someone or swear in public places you generalize way to much now kindly leave and stop sucking the fun out of this scene
@babadababoi777 - Hello. I fully respect your right to your opinion. I am well aware that not everyone acts on what they see in the media, thank goodness. You may be missing my point. The clean version of this scene was plenty of "fun" without the dehumanizing, abusive profanity. In the meantime, I will never command you to cease expressing yourself; you've every right to do so. However, I do also &, therefore, will not "leave." Peace to ALL.
one of the greatest lines ever! i'm a parent who has taken road trip quests and i've said things similar to this!!!! not sure why some dont like this. its comedy from a funny comedian!!!!!!
i've noticed that those who say they "like" seeing a parent verbally abusing his wife & children then get verbally abusive to anyone who disagrees with them In their posts. Please. Everyone is fully entitled to disagree. Can't we just do so AGREEABLY? Be aware, Chevy Chase was severely maltreated as a child, emotionally, verbally & physically. He says he's "good" to his own children. I wonder if he shows them this movie. PEACE TO ALL.
@furburgerking23 - Hello. I respect your right to your opinion. However, I disagree. Spousal & child abuse adversely affects everyone. Therefore, everyone should be working to eliminate it. Movies shouldn't be so influential, however, the fact is they are. The cleaned up scene in the TV version was just plain funny. But the profanity in the original was verbally & emotionally abusive. Chevy Chase, unfortunately, knows what abuse feels like & sadly chose to then promote it. Peace.
I could not imagine anything more horrifying than a world where nobody was allowed to in any way say or do anything that may possibly offend someone. GROW UP, GET IN THE REAL WORLD, GET A SENSE OF HUMOUR!!
@bluepheonex1989 - Hello. You've a right to your view. I agree we shouldn't all have to fear offending people with our opinions; that's Different from VERBAL ABUSE. Movie makers have a right to produce offensive material. We agree; I think its Sad that they want to. As an Abuse Counselor, I live in the VERY REAL WORLD. I encourage my clients to use HUMOR to help heal, but NOT at someone else's expense. I hope no one has ever violated your dignity by using you to get a cheap "laugh." Peace.
Not everyone is in need of 'abuse counseling' and find this extremely funny because of the contrast with Clark being the sickly-perfect father figure in this film.
There has not been a comedy industry as great as this for some time - and thats partly as a result of people like you making everyone scared of ' potentially offending' anybody.
@bluepheonex1989 - Hello. How about disagreeing, agreeably? No reason for personal insults. I never claimed that "everyone" needs abuse counseling; in fact, it's about 30% in the US. In the meantime, its Not the "rant" itself that is objectionable. The clean language RANT (on TV) was EXTREMELY FUNNY. Excellent comedies were produced for years that did NOT require degrading, dehumanizing, ugly profanity to get laughs. Like I say, we're probably just going to disagree here. Peace.
@tooeasy26 - Hello. It's clear we're going to disagree here. You're fully entitled to your views. However, I am a person, also, and I'm entitled to mine. I believe all human beings should treat each other with dignity & respect, that's all. An energetic rant is fine; a healthy release of frustration & anger, which are normal emotions. However, profane laden verbal abuse harms & devalues the humanity of both the abuser and the target. Just my two cents. To each their own. Peace.
@mjcamck71 please stop trying to drain the fun out of this.it is a comedy movie.if you want to comment on serious issues like verbal abuse etc...then find a different video more relevant and have your opinions elsewhere.I have happy childhood memories of watching this movie as a kid with my family, and this was the funniest part,i remember my dads laughter at this and we would be on the floor laughing,Good times Peace
@dior096 - Hello. Just a disagreement here. There was plenty of FUN in the clean TV Version of this classic movie. In my view, comedy doesn't "need" ugly, animalistic profanity to be entertaining. I will always fully accept the rights of others to disagree with my opinion that human beings should interact with each other in a dignified, respectful manner, even in comedic films. However I will not abandon the effort. I do wish you Good Times and Peace also. Thank you.
@mjcamck71 Am I missing ur point?..we disagree, thats fine, but let me figure you out.I detect you are confusing real life to fictional stories ACTED out by ACTORS!..You are all for "humans treating others with respect, dignity" etc soo let me ask - HOW DO YOU WATCH ANY MOVIE?Take Goodfellas or a violent movie like Boyz In The Hood..or an action film..lets say Die Hard.Have you seen Bad Santa?Or in Dumb&Dumber when Loyd sells the dead bird to the blind kid?..Respect?Dignity?how do these make u feel
@dior096 - Hello. TY for being civil. Yes (gently) you are missing my point. In my studies to become an abuse counselor, it was made clear that, while it definitely should NOT be this way, media images strongly influence real life behavior. I don't watch violent movies. Seeing people terrorized & killed is not "entertaining" to me. FYI - Chevy Chase was banned from hosting SNL in 1997 "due to his verbal abuse of cast & crew." What, no sense of humor on their part? Just asking. Peace.
@mjcamck71 I see what you’re saying, but humor is actually one of the healthiest ways to deal with the stress that everyone, especially families, face. Whatever Chevy Chases home life was or is like isn’t really important when considering one of his movies. Humor is largely about people doing stuff that we all know is dumb, if someone takes it seriously, they have worse problems then whatever they saw in a piece of fiction.
@Blackboilingrobotoil - Hello. We agree;people should Not take fictional comedy seriously. Unfortunately, studies prove that they do. Where we're going to disagree is that personal experiences of the principles of film production are irrelevant to the messages those movies deliver. Children learn what they live, then often live what they learned. Chevy C. first learned abuse, then lived it. As of 1997, he was banned from SNL for "years of verbal abuse of cast & crew." Just my 2 cents. Peace.
To clear things up for people telling me not to watch if I don't like this or to shut up about what I said....I LOVE this movie! I think it's hilarious. I was merely commenting towards all the people who are saying this is a family movie and they shouldn't curse at kids lalala...etc etc.... If those parents think it's so inappropriate for their child's age, don't let your kids watch it! But they're going to grow up hearing this stuff at one point or another, you can't shield them forever!
The actors that came from the '70's school of SNL were a dream team of funny. Remember the Steve Martin rant on Planes, Trains, and Automobiles? This is some of the funniest stuff on film, and one of my most favorite scenes. I also like that they rarely swear, and only do it when it actually accentuates the scene,
Agreed, it is the job of the parents to teach their children right from wrong and be mindful of what they watch! But the world is pretty f*ed up in general....so as much as you do they still go to school and see and hear this kind of stuff from kids there (mostly because their parents don't care) it's sadly a vicious cycle that will never be fixed....not being pessimistic, just realistic!
@copycat33633 Ugh, rude much? I don't appreciate being told to shut up from someone who doesn't even know me. I'm just as entitled to post my opinion as you, don't like it? GET OVER IT!!! If you don't like what I have to say, go read someone else's comments that you enjoy and agree with, reply to them! People like you are hilarious! it's ok though, I understand that you have a boring life so you feel the need to start arguments with strangers for a lil excitement! It's pretty pathetic ;)
Quite right ! It's my favourite scene from all the Chevy Chase films. The world is full of moaning bastards who enjoy taking time out of their busy schedule of browsing the internet to find and then blame funny film clips for the reason why some kids grow up to be arseholes and criminals. Face it, some kids are just born "fucked in the head"
Quite right ! It's my favourite scene from all the Chevy Chase films. I love it and for all you liberal fucking soft assholes out there fuck you and your kids and do your job and keep them off the computer and get some excercise. They are all probably 300 pounds playing video games and shoveling food down their throats!!
My parents took me to see Coming to America when I was 6 years old. Watched the Jerk since I was four. You know what? Grew up with a healthy respect for women since I saw that my father respected my mother, didn't repeat what I saw on T.V. because my parents were educated enough to help me realize the difference between fantasy and reality. Happily married with a son of my own. How could I do that with all that ugliness from T.V. and movies??? Maybe it is because family is the best influence.
Only douchebags start debates about proper language and politics on a video from National Lampoon's Vacation. If you don't like it then don't watch it. No one is forcing you to watch this clip or the movie in general. It's not meant to be a "family" movie. There are plenty of family movies out there, go watch one of them. Jesus Christ...
The movie was dark humor, it was never meant for PG13. It was Rated R w/ nudity when it first came out of the theaters. I dont know what these conservatives are bitching about. If you dont want to hear F bombs, go watch Disney.
@citizenlen you liberals are more known as the "no fun police" I cant tell polish jokes anymore becuse liberals with no sense of humor will call me racist
@sullymahopac Exactly. Why the fuck would you come watch this scene if you already know what is going to be said. You know theres F-Bombs all over the place so wtf? Yeah I said fuck so what? Wanna fight about it? Too bad.
Great movie, but this is why the movie is rated "R" for for adult language. Chevy did this kind of going off the deep end ranting in "Christmas Vacation", which was alittle bit more amusing because most of the words he used to be like he's cursing were compound-combinations of common and jibberish words mashed together. Fellow comedian Steve Martin did this too in "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles", at the rental car desk. Funny, but the "F-bombs" were dropping heavy big time in that one scene.
Have to agree.......It would be alot more funny without the "F" words! Just think it would be humor the entire family could enjoy. I get so tired of having to sit with my finger on the mute button!?!?!?! All of entertainment has gotten to where you can't enjoy it with family because of what some actor might do or say! I guess we'll crawl back in the cave now.
@hiddencharges - WELL SAID! I only hope the decision makers start developing a sense of dignity and quality in movies (like we used to have). We human ARE supposed to have evolved more than base animals by now. Peace to All.
Lol great movies....gob bless john hughes....just think of what other classics he coulda made.

@mjcamck71 Am I missing ur point?..we disagree, thats fine, but let me figure you out.I detect you are confusing real life to fictional stories ACTED out by ACTORS!..You are all for "humans treating others with respect, dignity" etc soo let me ask - HOW DO YOU WATCH ANY MOVIE?Take Goodfellas or a violent movie like Boyz In The Hood..or an action film..lets say Die Hard.Have you seen Bad Santa?Or in Dumb&Dumber when Loyd sells the dead bird to the blind kid?..Respect?Dignity?how do these make u feel
dior096 10 months ago
@dior096 - Hello. TY for being civil. Yes (gently) you are missing my point. In my studies to become an abuse counselor, it was made clear that, while it definitely should NOT be this way, media images strongly influence real life behavior. I don't watch violent movies. Seeing people terrorized & killed is not "entertaining" to me. FYI - Chevy Chase was banned from hosting SNL in 1997 "due to his verbal abuse of cast & crew." What, no sense of humor on their part? Just asking. Peace.
mjcamck71 10 months ago
@mjcamck71 I see what you’re saying, but humor is actually one of the healthiest ways to deal with the stress that everyone, especially families, face. Whatever Chevy Chases home life was or is like isn’t really important when considering one of his movies. Humor is largely about people doing stuff that we all know is dumb, if someone takes it seriously, they have worse problems then whatever they saw in a piece of fiction.
Blackboilingrobotoil 9 months ago

Jesus Christ...
mikef935 1 year ago
The movie was dark humor, it was never meant for PG13. It was Rated R w/ nudity when it first came out of the theaters. I dont know what these conservatives are bitching about. If you dont want to hear F bombs, go watch Disney.

sullymahopac 1 year ago 46
@sullymahopac Exactly. Why the fuck would you come watch this scene if you already know what is going to be said. You know theres F-Bombs all over the place so wtf? Yeah I said fuck so what? Wanna fight about it? Too bad.
GhrimReeper 1 year ago
@sullymahopac Agreed.
ParadiseofTruth 1 year ago
Great movie, but this is why the movie is rated "R" for for adult language. Chevy did this kind of going off the deep end ranting in "Christmas Vacation", which was alittle bit more amusing because most of the words he used to be like he's cursing were compound-combinations of common and jibberish words mashed together. Fellow comedian Steve Martin did this too in "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles", at the rental car desk. Funny, but the "F-bombs" were dropping heavy big time in that one scene.
odiemodie1 1 year ago
@odiemodie1 This is an old school movie. If they did this in say, 2001, then it would probably be PG-13
StalfosSlayer 1 year ago
Does my heart well to see that other people agree that all the bad language is not necessary! Thanks mjcamck71
hiddencharges 1 year ago
Have to agree.......It would be alot more funny without the "F" words! Just think it would be humor the entire family could enjoy. I get so tired of having to sit with my finger on the mute button!?!?!?! All of entertainment has gotten to where you can't enjoy it with family because of what some actor might do or say! I guess we'll crawl back in the cave now.
hiddencharges 1 year ago
@hiddencharges - WELL SAID! I only hope the decision makers start developing a sense of dignity and quality in movies (like we used to have). We human ARE supposed to have evolved more than base animals by now. Peace to All.
