@MrDrums8 Great, glad I could help. Usually I've got the black knob (Q knob?) at two clicks from full clockwise. For this song I did use the volume boost...you need it for the feedback.
great sound. You've got more grit in your sound than most LP vid's I've seen, with kids doing their pissy thin sounding speed solos. uncool. Attitude's where it's at. Nice one.
I'm waiting to find the right lP in this color. Unfortunately most are chambered with a very wide silverburst. I prefer the burst to be centered with plenty of black around it like the 2007 model
@ChrisPlugged Thanks. Great comment/compliment. I couldn't do a speed solo if my life depended on it. Good thing I've never really wanted to :). Adam has helped me "feel" like a good guitarist without the ability to "speed" solo. I'd like to have a vintage Silverburst...love the green/brown tint. Mine's currently an '09.
@MrDrums8 Thanks...probably the hardest part of the song. Was really frustrating to get that far and mess up or not get the feedback tone right, etc. As for my BF-2 settings, they are based off of what I could see on that Dunlop Tool video. Full, Full, 11'clock, 0. Hope this helps.
@JosephMCorbett Thank you so much! I totally forgot about that video! Now after going into it, I read that some of the settings could have been fake to mess with people like us. The delay looked real to me though, maybe a little less feedback. But thank you for helping out with the flanger settings.
@theos138 Not around my gear right now. However, there is an article on Fourtheye with a pic of a VH4 that used to belong to Adam...hash marks and all. I've EQ'd my VH4 the same except for the volume of course, lol. The article was called "Buy Adam's Diezel". Google and a bit of digging and you'll find the pics and the article...
@MrSloth147 Sure...MXR Micro Amp, Boss DD-3, Boss BF-2, and DOD EQ all on at the same time. Finally, switch the wah on and modulate the feedback with that. Of course, the guitar, pickup, amps, and settings on all the gear make a difference as well. I've set my gear up according to photos/videos of Adam's gear that are commonly found floating around the net. If you have a more specific question send me a PM and maybe I can help further. Cheers :).
Absolutely brilliant! I was the exact same way; I didn't really care for this song until after I started learning it on guitar. With that said, I can see I'm going to have to alter a few of my interpretations. This sounds spot on to me!
Awesome, dude. Extremely helpful for figuring out some places where I get lost. Also interesting to see some of the fingering you use, guess I'll have to watch some more videos.
@Lindipitz Nope. Looked at some tabs from 911, I think but they aren't right. Watched other's covers and live Tool footage. Was there a part in particular that you can't make out from watching? If so, send me a PM and I'll try to help.
@Toolminion1 Feedback...modulated by the wah pedal. MXR Micro amp boost, flange, delay, and EQ with highs boosted. Basically, everything on at the same time :). It's also important to have pickups and an amp that will generate feedback at whatever volume you are playing at. As for settings, the pedals are all set according the the pics/vids of Adams gear floating around the web.
damn... thought SCOverstreet did the best adam jones covers before seeing this, highly impressive. Dude what an absolute beast of a song, who just COMES UP with all that?? Bout to watch more of your vids. Nice work man, pro shit. Keep em comin
@kmoff11 Wow, thanks man. Ya, when I first started I would watch a lot of his covers. He plays well, but a lot of what he plays isn't necessarily what Adam is doing...I don't think he is/was trying for a carbon copy. He also has his own tone and doesn't even bother with Adam's feedback, which is essential in my opinion. I've been at this for a while now...some of my earlier stuff isn't that great....it's all a work in progress :). Thanks again for the great comment!
@JosephMCorbett Agreed. He's got a cool style to how he plays but think u and opiateofthemasses are as close to Adams rig as it gets. It's a slippery slope. Started playin ~2 yrs ago and cant learn anything but tool. Duno if that's good or bad for my development, all ab the enjoyment of playin tho i guess. Posted this vid of the pot a while back, 1st full song I learned. Just a 30W Line6, pretty sloppy but im gettin better every day. Diggin ur stinkfist cover too btw. Spiral out.
@kmoff11 Thanks man...nice to be in the same sentence as Opiate :). I think it is all about having fun, doing what you want. Learning someone else's songs, style, and tone is a great influence, so it has to help. Thanks for the link...I'll check it out. Glad you liked Stinkfist :).
@kmoff11 Ya, that's not letting me check it out bud...maybe because you're account is hidden? Maybe "share" it with me via the Youtube inbox/pm/mail system?
@1123foreman Thanks! I've been fiddling with gear for a couple years trying to find it, lol. Glad you recognized it...not many people do. I actually don't think that many people know the tone when they hear it, and so may pass it up trying to find it. Nothing's perfect though and there is always room to improve...
hey nice work, been messing around with this one too. your guitar sounds awesome in the intro/solo, really well played and great recording quality too. i do the same thing with my mxr for this song. Meaning to ask ya how much that pickup contributes to your sound opposed to the stock one? is it a minor influence or did you notice a big change, been considering switching mine out, let me know... later
@TheMrjohhnyonthespot Hey bud thanks and good to hear from you again. Ya, this Zoom Q3HD recorder did the trick. As for the pickup, it made a significant difference. A huge part of tone is in the fingers, but some gear just makes things easier. A pickup swap is a lot of bang for the buck...cheap and easy to swap and there is a decent improvement. It's one thing I was on the fence about too, but I'm glad I did it.
@RIL2210 Hey thanks man. Tooltabs dot net has some really good tabs. However, they only have a few for 10,000 Days. It's kind of disorganized over there...there are more tabs in the forum section, you just have to dig. Thanks again...and good luck, have fun!
@SkinnyPuppy208 Wow, thanks...that is a great compliment, and much appreciated! I'm glad you liked it. Ya...at 11+ minutes, it's a monster, but fun to play :).
I must say you concurred this one my friend. Well anticipated and I may have to watch it a few more times to try to figure out how you stayed in rhythm? Practice makes perfect huh? lol. Anyway, favorited :)
@StevenzGuitarCovers Thanks bud! Haven't heard from you in a while...busy with Reflection? Ya, this one, you're on your own trying to keep time...gets tough on some parts :).
@JosephMCorbett Yeah, you did a great job keeping in time. As for Reflection, still practicing the main riff but took a break as I'm finally getting everything sorted out to get that Epiphone Les Paul :)
@JosephMCorbett Ya I have been playing it everyday for like a month now LOL =) Haven't been able to play it all the way through without messin up yet though =( I think i'll try to put one up tomorrow... You have to give me some lessons on the effects please!!! LOL what type of flanger do you use? I was thinking about getting the MXR micro one
@spider5001 Ya, I hear you...that's what it takes though. I learned most of this song probably a year ago and would play it a few times every couple of weeks since. When I decided to cover it next, I started playing it 3-4 times a day since my last cover about 5-6 weeks ago. Still wasn't able to get through it without a few small errors though :). No problem bud, feel free to send me some PM's. As for the flanger, it's a Boss BF-2....same as Adam's. Ebay...$60.
@REFICSUPCPALOOT Hey buddy, thanks a lot. Really appreciate it. Always get a bit nervous putting up a new cover...but when you guys like it, I know I did good and it's worthy. Thanks for letting me know :).
@0oOsimonOo0 Thanks! Keep at it, and you will, if you don't already :). It's all hours...I've been playing for many years off and on, but there are some who only play a few years and blow me out of the water. Put in the hours and it will happen sooner...
