having a guitar with a super aged look won't make you play or sound any better and won't give you ANY cred. Let what comes out of your amp and into your ears give you cred. You might get off on standing in front of the mirror with it but everyone else will just think you're a bit of a dick.
@POINTBLANK0106 It can give you better tuning stability for a vintage tremolo. Some people say that it is more like a hard tail as well and will give you more sustain but, I think that is just in their heads. I used .4 springs on my 2 mexi strats and only 3 on my american. The 2-point tremolo on the american strats has more tuning stability so you need less springs
its funny how so many people are so "anti" aging a guitar.. so its beat up.. so what? its a look that people like. you mean to tell me none of you have ever bought a faded pair of jeans? same concept..
Well, some people like it and some don't. See, I personally love it because it makes it look authentic and played for years. See, I played a vintage 57 strat that was well beaten up and the I played a hand reliced strat and it felt the same and sounded the same. So try that theory... Bitch.
i have tried a real relic strat and the one that was relic'd... they were never the same. the older the instrument the more you feel and hear the vintage sound.. a comparison of a guitar built in the early 50s.. them parts sticks like a WHOLE together and form a real great sounding guitar than a guitar that has been made for like 1 or 2 years that needs years to make every parts compliment and make as a WHOLE
Maybe i'm one of those people who just don't "get it" but why would you buy a guitar that has shit beaten out of it already? Even SRV didn't do that. He beat the shit out of them himself.
because SRV's guitar is a 59 strat, about a $25,000 guitar right not (not his obviously) in any condition. To buy a real 50's or 60's strat will cost from $20-100K. People dont want o spend that but they want the vintage vibe so they buy one for $2-3K and it looks and plays the same... not to mention new guitars are not finished in nitro, they are finished in urethane paints so they will never wear out like a real vintage guitar by playing it..
Acutualy everyone stevie ray vaughan used 13 gauge strings all the way up to his passing although he did use at time (for recording perposes and some times live ) 17 gauge
I did a light relic job to my 2001 Telecaster. I took it down to bare wood - very labor intensive, and primed it white, then painted it sonic blue. I used nitro for the finish and I ambered the neck. It takes a long time to get convincing results. It also takes some knowledge of guitar playing to understand wear. One thing I'm having trouble with is getting the checking in the finish since my nitro is only 1.5 years old. It's like it heals its self...... any thoughts?
Thanks very much...I'm going to post some more showing how it was done in more detail...Looking forward to networking with you all out there...vist my channel and subscribe...
When I see someone with a reliced guitar, and you can spot them a mile off, I think "Oh it's a twat who can't play well and is compensating."

I don't quite get why some people like to have exact replicas of their idols guitars. Isn't it better to create your own stile?

Can someone please tell me what is the purpose of having so many springs ( 0:19) ive noticed it in alot of older strats and I was curious!!

Fine in Cali or somewhere dry, in Miami that guitar'd weigh 15 pounds in a day with the bare wood soaking up humidity...

But thats like adopting a 30 year-old instead of having a baby because it's more useful. I'ts pointless.

think about what would cause checking in the first place...heat and cold...
Now I'm not trying to be evasive I just don't want you to do anything to ruin a good finish...
in other words don't try this at kids unless you have some experience...
there are several ways to do this ...the ez way ...
put it in the freezer and take it out into the heat of the day...or the something similar
get it?...

hey i sorta messed around a little on the back of my strat i used a pocket knife and carved some away, how do you get that shiny woodish look?
insaneguitaristt 3 years ago
depends on what kind of finish it is...you can't get these effects with a polyurethane finish...
poly is basically plastic...only nitro will show these types of wear patterns...
cheers
